"X-Men '97" brings back the marvelous mutants as if they never left TV screens after the original series finale, "Graduation Day." The trailer promised a tone and style befitting the original, plus plenty of Marvel comic book Easter eggs.

Now, the X-Men are larger than life — and ultimately, any one actor. In the 27-year hiatus between the 1992 series and this revival, the X-Men finally made it to live-action (we ranked their cinematic adventures here) and starred in other animated series. Since "X-Men '97" is a revival of a specific version of the X-Men, though, the show has brought back cast members and creatives from the original show. If they hadn't, then why revive this series instead of just making a new "X-Men" cartoon?

In its opening titles, "X-Men" would introduce each member of the team one-by-one with hero shots demonstrating their powers and/or quirks alongside huge text displaying their names.

In the late 1990s, Bandai Entertainment and the Japanese animation studio Sunrise approached young director Shinichirō Watanabe to make a sci-fi action show (mostly so they could sell spaceship toys). Watanabe took that directive and led the creation of "Cowboy Bebop."

This 26-episode show followed down-on-their-luck bounty hunters in the year 2071, when mankind has colonized the solar system and left behind a ruined Earth. It brought Western and noir storytelling together into its sci-fi setting, fused with an existential mood and jazzy music composed by Yoko Kanno.

"Star Wars: Visions" Volume 2 seemed to have done its homework on Star Wars cartoons. For starters, the "Bandits of Golak" utters a quip like "All this for sweets?", which emulates a line like "All this for fruit?" in "Star Wars Rebels" season 1. But the Aardman stop-motion short "I Am Your Mother" takes its "Rebels" homages a step further through its Twi'lek character designs.

That is, if the creative and color choices aren't just a coincidence. As the upcoming "Ahsoka" live-action series hovers on the horizon, the recent Star Wars Celebration announcement of Lars Mikkelsen taking up the blue make-up to reprise his legendary animated voice role in the full-bodied flesh sent waves of excitement through Star Wars fans. A main baddie for the final half of the "Star Wars Rebels" animated series created by Dave Filoni (showrunning again for "Ahsoka"), the ice-blue Chiss Admiral proved to be a formidable and terrifying threat to the Ghost crew. Mitth'raw'nuruodo's (Thrawn's Chiss name) epic (re)entrance into the public consciousness provided fond memories for Celebration attendees back in 2016, especially for the generation who grew up with the Legends novels that started with Timothy Zahn's 1991 "Heir to the Empire." That book kicked off an enduring Legends reign for Thrawn as an intelligent Imperial tactician who had no nonsense for Imperial stupidity.

"The Mandalorian" season 3 cameo of a hulking furry Lasat, Garazeb Orellios (voiced again by Steve Blum), excited "Star Wars Rebels" viewers. But the sighting also may have disillusioned fans who are already wary of Star Wars falling deeper into the referential everything-must-be-connected pit — not unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and this connection could have further fractured the identity of "The Mandalorian" show more than it already has. At the same time, it could have given fans more hope to see the "Rebels" cast in the upcoming live-action series "Ahsoka." The power of this cameo is that it can make Star Wars fans (myself included) feel many emotions — even hope and dread in the same space.

It also might have reminded "Rebels" fans that the CGI cartoon didn't do justice to the Garazeb (or Zeb) character. When "Rebels" closed out its final season in 2018, the Lasat probably got the most questionable...

The Mandalorian season 3 kicks things into high gear with “The Pirate.” Gorian Shard wants to take Nevarro for himself but seriously underestimates Greef Karga’s connections. When Din, Bo-Katan, and the rest of the Mandalorians show up to kick the pirates out of town, all hell breaks loose in the skies above the city as well as on the ground. The Armorer smashes a few faces in with her hammer while Paz lays down the law with his gatling blaster, with air support from Din and Bo. By the end of the episode, Gorian has nowhere to go but down.

Unsurprisingly, the lead up and the battle itself cue up quite a few callbacks and references to other Star Wars stories, including a few cameos that should get fans excited for the future of the Mandoverse! Here are all the easter eggs...

The Mandoverse is expanding further in 2023. While last year’s The Book of Boba Fett fleshed out the post-Return of the Jedi story of the infamous bounty hunter and his quest to rule Mos Espa, two more shows will take this corner of the Star Wars universe to new territory. There’s Jon Watts’ Skeleton Crew, which will see Jude Law leading a group of teens on an epic adventure inspired by ’80s Amblin films. Then there’s Ahsoka, which picks up the story of not just the beloved Jedi warrior but all her friends from the Rebels animated series. Jon Favreau gets a lot of credit as the chief voice behind "The Mandalorian." In fairness, he created the show and has written the bulk of the episodes up to this point, so he's probably earned that. But Dave Filoni, the man behind "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," has also been behind him every step of the way, and his influence has been felt on a deep level. From getting Ahsoka Tano in live-action for the first time in season 2 to making Bo-Katan a central character, this show has Filioni's fingerprints all over it. Now, thanks to the series' most recent episode, titled "The Pirate," we're wading even further into Filoni territory with a huge "Star Wars Rebels" cameo.

Over the course of its 21 chapters thus far, "The Mandalorian" has referenced "Star Wars Rebels" quite a bit. One of the biggest reveals was the inclusion of Ahsoka Tano in the second season, when Din Djarin traveled to the planet Corvus. There, we saw Ahsoka battle Morgan Elsbeth, looking for the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn, which was one of the key dangling plot threads at the end of the series finale of "Rebels."

Another major hint was bringing Bo-Katan Kryze and the story of the Darksaber into the show. The tale of the Darksaber featured prominently in "Star Wars Rebels", as did the Mandalorian people and culture, as they sought to free themselves from the yolk of the Empire. The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 5: Chapter 21

Sometimes, you just want to see a good ol’ Star War. Episode 5 of The Mandalorian’s third season is meat-and-potatoes Star Wars goodness served up on a shiny platter, and man, that original recipe still hits. The skirmish for Nevarro delivers everything you’d want from a classic, good versus evil Star Wars battle, and the season’s larger story develops in tantalizing ways in the background, making this one of the best, most robust episodes of the series yet.

The fight over control of Nevarro between Gorian Shard and his pirates and Greef Karga and his people is simple to understand and pretty effective here, thanks to a rock-solid performance by Carl Weathers and some cursory backstory that makes the issue between the former associates feel at least a little personal. The hyper-chickens come home to roost in the latest episode of "The Mandalorian." The twenty-first chapter is called "The Pirate" and brings Gorian Shard back to the forefront of trouble for the people of Nevarro. The episode begins with Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) doing some serious city planning with city engineers, pleasing NUMTOTs the world over by including rail in his plans to make the city better and move cargo around. But that's when Gorian Shard returns to Nevarro to threaten Greef and the planet. Greef tries to bluff him, insisting the New Republic might help, but Gorian Shard knows better. For the insolence shown to his men the last time they visited the planet, Gorian Shard opens fire, laying waste to the city Greef Karga has worked to make safe and respectable. Omega (Michelle Ang) and The Bad Batch (Dee Bradley Baker) have cut ties with Cid (Rhea Perlman) and decided to adventure across the galaxy with Phee Genoa (Wanda Sykes), as they look for a new way to sustain their lives.

Olivia Newton-John will receive yet another special tribute — a state memorial service in her childhood home of Melbourne, Australia, later this month.

Newton-John’s family is helping to plan the event, which will take place at Hamer Hall, Arts Centre in Melbourne on Feb. 26. The show will feature special tributes from family and friends, as well as a musical performance from Delta Goodrem, who both collaborated with Newton-John and played her in the 2018 Australian biopic miniseries.

Tickets to the tribute will be free, though only a limited number will be available.

Melbourne, Aug 29 (Ians) Australia’s state of Victoria is recruiting and training a massive number of healthcare workers to cope with staff shortage partly due to Covid-19.

Under the initiative announced by the Victoria government, more than 17,000 nurses and midwives will be recruited and trained for the state’s healthcare system, reports Xinhua news agency.

More than 10,000 students will have the cost of their nursing or midwifery undergraduate studies paid for, while scholarships will be available for thousands more who complete postgraduate studies in areas of need including intensive care, cancer care, paediatrics and nurse practitioner specialties.

All new domestic students enrolling in a professional-entry nursing or midwifery course in 2023 and 2024 will receive a scholarship of up to A16,500 to cover course costs.

Students will receive A9,000 while they study and the remaining A7,500if they work in Victoria’s public health services for two years.

As a sequel to "Avatar: The Last Airbender," "The Legend of Korra" started off with big shoes to fill. The series didn't always walk the straightest path in these shoes. "Book 1: Air" is rock solid but underserved by its breezy 12-episode run. "Book 2: Spirits" is entertaining but a structural mess. However, seasons 3 and 4 overcame the growing pains and delivered an experience as incredible as "The Last Airbender" at its best.

One area where "Korra" never faltered was its voice cast. Comedian Janet Varney was perfect as Korra, imbuing the young Avatar with both spunk and self-doubt.
