When people think of the year 1794, they probably don't think of good food. Rightfully so as I would wager our cooking skills today are on a much higher level than back in the day, but this video might prove me wrong.
Featuring more butter than a Paula Dean recipe, Townsends shares a 1794 dish for Baked Apple Pudding. Just how much butter are we talking here? A full eight ounces.
Yeah....
Still, it looks delicious and possibly worth the clogged arteries. Check it out below and let us know if you'd be down for the way folks ate in 1794. ...

Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles screens this Friday and Saturday nights (July 7th and 8th) at midnight at the Tivoli Theater as part of their ‘Reel Late at the Tivoli’ Midnight series.
I showed the condensed Super-8 version of Blazing Saddles, appropriately enough, at my Super-8 Politically Incorrect Movie Madness show a few years ago at The Way Out Club and there are enough N-words in the 18-minute edit alone to make Paula Dean blush, but damn, this movie just keeps getting funnier as it ages!
Blazing Saddles is my favorite Mel Brooks comedy. Yes, even more than Young Frankenstein – it’s hard to believe Brooks produced both yuk-fests the same year. I just watched his 1977 follow-up High Anxiety on 16mm last weekend for the first time since it was new and Yikes! – I see why it was a critical disaster – didn’t laugh once!

For a moment, things were getting better. Republicans and Democrats awkwardly joined hands, grumbling, to pass the first divided-Congress budget deal in nearly three decades this week. Partisans howled, yet rival factions took care of business despite enormous differences with minimal drama. The grand canyon of America’s political divide seemed to narrow, at least by a few inches, for a few days.
Then this happened.
Phil Robertson’s homophobic and weirdly genital-fixated comments in GQ. His non-apology defense suggesting he’s not bigoted because he loves people. A&E’s suspenseful pregnant pause as the hours ticked by on Wednesday.

After Kanye went on a Twitter rant following Jimmy Kimmel’s spoof of his BBC interview, the two agreed to talk it out on Wednesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. And in true Kanye form, he went on another epic rant to clarify his last rant.

Nom claims Canada imprisoning anti-gay priests, Father Tiger’s “First Love,” and Zachary Quinto hopes Scotus decision is galvanizing
Zachary Quinto says he doesn’t know what the Supreme Court is going to decide, but he’s hopeful for the future when it happens. “We’ll see what happens… I’m certainly not going to hazard against it to say what happens, but I hope it’s a galvanizing moment, and I’m hopeful that [equal marriage] will be supported and we’ll continue to move forward. I think no matter what happens, it’s an unstoppable wave at this point, and I’ve said that before because I really believe it.”
If you’re hoping for Team Gay representation from Teen Wolf at Comic-Con, you’ll have to make due with Max Carver’s Ethan, because Keahu Kahuanui (who was at last night’s Hot 100 party in La) isn’t scheduled to attend.

Things haven’t been going great for Paula Deen the last few days: She’s been dropped from the Food Network, QVC is “reviewing the relationship,” and her biggest defenders so far have been her sons — and their examples left a lot to be desired. But Deen has got at least one public figure in her corner: Anne Rice. The vampire author took to her own Facebook page to defend the chef, but her comments (first discovered by Jezebel) are likely to just cause more controversy.

Anne Rice is sinking her teeth into the Paula Deen controversy. The Vampire Chronicles author took to Facebook to share her thoughts about how the celebrity chef is being treated in the wake of admitting in a deposition to using the N-word. "What's happening with Paula Dean [sic]? Is it fair? I never heard of her until today, and wow, this looks like a crucifixion," Rice wrote. She added, "I may be wrong but aren't we becoming something of a lynch mob culture? Is this a good example of that? What are your feelings?" Not surprising, reaction to Rice's remarks were mixed. One commenter wrote, "Anne, you're a great author...but seriously girl, 'lynch...

Best Parody of An Awards Show: Wait, Hln’s telecast of the 40th annual Daytime Emmys wasn’t meant to be taken seriously, right? Cause, um, it was a total joke.
Oddest “Tribute”: In the wake of James Gandolfini’s death, Gawker ran an article titled, “The Fatness of James Gandolfini: Inspiring, Iconic, and Probably Fatal.”
Worst Mom Ever: Tori Hensley of Toddlers & Tiaras announced she’s creating an energy drink designed for children. Apparently, shoving candy down their throats before pushing them out on stage is so 2012.
Least Shocking “Reveal”: Radar informed readers that Real Housewives Of New York was caught faking scenes, no doubt catching three viewers off guard.
Best Story, Daytime Division: Ever since Lauren slept with Carmine behind hubby Michael’s back, The Young & The Restless has created one of the most stunning portraits of a marriage in crisis to hit the small screen in years.

There were a number of extraordinary moments during Comedy Central's Night Of Too Many Stars benefit for autism programs, but there was one in particular that drew tears from the audience rather than laughs.
The theme for the night was bringing together unlikely couples: Bill O'Reilly and Chris Matthews, Harvey Keitel and Carly Rae Jepson, Paula Dean and butter (well, unlikely now). But the most unexpected of them all was little Jodi Dipiazza, a young girl living with autism, and superstar Katy Perry. In a pre-taped profile on Dipiazza, the audience learned of her struggles with the disorder as well as how she began to find a way forward through music.
Following the video, Dipiazza, seated almost comically at an enormous grand piano, was joined on stage by Katy Perry for a duet of the star's hit song, "Firework." What followed was a performance that left not one dry eye in the theater.

NBC news anchor Matt Lauer will do something most women on television try desperately not to do. He will age before our eyes.
Of course there are women of a certain age in strong powerful roles on television -- Diane Sawyer, Barbara Walters and Katie Couric to name a few. But none has gone there without fighting to stay younger looking.
Lauer, who just announced a new multi-year, multimillion-dollar deal with NBC's Today, seemed nonchalant about aging on the small screen. The 54 year-old news anchor even poked fun at his longevity on the show when he talked about the new contract.
"Truth be told I was developing an idea for a new show, where viewers could tune in every morning and see someone they know lose a little more of his hair every single day right in front of their eyes. But then I thought, I could just stay here and do that,...

Welcome back for week three of Gbc! From now on we'll stick with regular recaps, however this week will be shorter than usual because I also had to deal with a bunch of soulless creatures with rotting flesh who exist to devour humanity. No, not the Desperate Housewives, I'm talking about the season finale of The Walking Dead.
Week three of Gbc continues the improvements we saw in the second episode, proving that you can't judge a series by its pilot. Great one-liners, soapy twists, and a complex "marriage of convenience" are quickly making this series must-see viewing.
Total Jag-Off
We get off to a good start with Ripp sweaty and shirtless in bed, but we quickly realize something is amiss from his appearance. Is it the bloodshot eyes? The clammy skin? A-ha, he has a classic case of Bad Sex Hair. Sure enough, Carlene emerges from under the covers,...

If chefs belong in the kitchen and celebrities belong in the skies, jetting from one glamorous locale to another, then Anthony Bourdain has officially landed in the latter category. The author and world traveler is talking to us from the backseat of a car in New York en route to the airport, where he'll depart for Tokyo -- after a quick layover Washington, D.C.
Did you get all of that? No matter: Bourdain travels 240 days out of the year and has cooked up an enviable career out of combining culture with cravings, airports with anecdotes, layovers with leisure. If "No Reservations" is all about Tony doing whatever the hell he wants, then his new show, "The Layover," would be his CliffsNotes: a snappy one-hour manual of where-to-go's and what-to-eats in major metropolitan cities, with Tony still doing, well, whatever the hell he wants during a 24- to 48-hour period.

Worst Casting Decision: Law & Order: Svu will add Gilbert Gottfried in a recurring role. Because an annoying character is what the long-running franchise needs as it struggles against newbie Revenge. And speaking of Revenge.
Best Halloween Treat: Move over Thursday night, forget Monday, thanks to the heartfelt hilarity that is The Middle, Suburgatory, Modern Family and Happy Endings, Wednesdays on ABC — capped off with the increasingly addictive Emily VanCamp sudser that is Revenge — has officially become our favorite night of television bar none.
Oddest Announcement: Butter-loving chef Paula Dean told Jay Leno she’ll be launching a clothing line. Wonder if it’ll be sold at K-Mart or in the deep-fried section of the local Piggly Wiggly?
Most Diluted Franchise: Much as we love The Simpsons, the annual Treehouse of Horror is really stretching the definition of “horror” by spoofing Avatar.

As you no-doubt remember from last week's episode, Taylor went nuts at Chase's party and pushed Levi and Philip into a swimming pool.
Well, this week's episode begins back at the scene of the crime. Chase is furious that his 50,000 dollar party was ruined by Taylor's prank.
Wait a second? This lame-ass "Footloose" party is costing fifty grand to produce? Please tell me there's an #Occupy Dallas somewhere protesting this.
Meanwhile Philip, still screeching over what Devil Taint did to him, is finally persuaded to leave the party. Levi, however, still has unfinished business.
He finds Taylor outside and, despite Ashley's pleas for calm, grabs him by the shirt and pushes him against the wall.
"Are you (bleep)ing kidding me?" he says in a low snarl. Just when it looks like Levi might haul off and smack the kid, he lets go and returns to the party.
A new day rises over Dallas.

Anne Hathaway talks “One Day,” the great Paula Dean and her “Dark Knight Rises” training – Interview
By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Lone Scherfig’s “One Day” is a decades-spanning romance that follows Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess), college friends who endure an on-again-off-again relationship over the course of 20 years. Based on David Nicholls’ novel, it looks in on the disconnected lovers on the same day of every year – July 15 – to see how their relationship has progressed (or regressed, thanks to Emma’s career ruts or Dexter’s casual drug use).
The film coasts along on the palpable chemistry shared between Hathaway and Sturgess, while also promising a few unexpected dramatic twists that will surprise audience members who haven’t yet read the book.
But when I sat down with Hathaway in New York City, we ended up talking about old friends, her favorite TV chef, her training for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, and the one thing she loves to do...

Pasadena - Forget the AFI Top 10 list of Best TV shows. Why should care about TV since they are the American Film Institute? This is kind like the American Diabetic Prevention Society’s Top 10 Favorite Sugary Candy Bars list. Or Bravo’s Top 10 Hunting Shows. Or Madd’s Best 10 Drinks to Mess You Up. Or Charlie Sheen’s Top 10 Things You Can Do Without Involving Hookers and Blow. If they care about TV that much, shouldn’t they be the Aftvi? But they are a pack of List Whores over at AFI with their 100 Years a 100 Stupid Lists press releases.
Why does critic or critic group have to tell you the Best or Worst of the Year? Party Favors is proud to announce the Meh Awards for the 10 TV shows that didn’t work for me in 2010. They weren’t the most pathetic things on TV, but made me lose interest in watching them.

So, just a heads up that AfterElton will have a very limited schedule today and tomorrow. You will get a Meme each day, though, but I'll be filling in for Ed Kennedy, so expect subliminal 80's references that will haunt your subconscious.
The reviews are in, and as of this writing Burlesque has a 32% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That's actually not as bad as I thought, and is certainly better than other holiday fare. Nutcraker 3D has a perfect 0% going, and if that holds, it'll join such illustrious company as Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 and Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Severs
Ecks Vs. Severs it's not, but the Burlesque reviews run the gamut from "The dialogue falls upon the ear like baseball bats," to "Approximately 10% of you are going to Love this movie." Roger Ebert gives it two stars, writing that Christina has "an unforced charm," and "Cher looks exactly as she always does.

As a longtime supporter of Blessings in a Backpack, a non-profit organization oriented towards feeding elementary school children, Rachel has met the children and visited the schools whom the programs directly affect. For this initiative, she has enlisted other supporters including Miley Cyrus, Hilary Duff, Paula Dean, Dwight Howard and Scarlett Johansson to participate in 1,000 Backpacks through PSAs, statements of support and messaging on their social networks.

U.S. Catholics are to get guidance from Rome in advance of election day, according to U.S. Cardinal-designate Raymond Burke. The guidance will be to vote against candidates based on their pro-choice, pro-stem cell research, pro-euthanasia, and pro-gay marriage. Catholics will be told they must do “their civic duty in accord with their Catholic faith.” That includes:
So, the Catholic Church in teaching that sexual acts between persons of the same sex are intrinsically evil, are against nature itself, is simply announcing the truth, helping people to discriminate right from wrong in terms of their own activities.
Gay down! We’ve lost Sam Adama (Sasha Roiz), because SyFy has pulled the plug on Caprica, just days after greenlighting Battlestar: Blood and Chrome. I’m not surprised, but they owe us two gays, minimum, on the new series. Plus, they’re pulling it from the schedule, and we don’t...

If you live in the greater New York area you have spent much of 2010 fired up about the battle between Cablevision and Scripps Networks. Without any notice, the cable provider Cablevision yanked the Food Network and Hgtv and viewers are outraged. So for now we must say goodbye to Rachel Ray, Bobby Flay, Paula Dean and all of our favorite shows on Hgtv like House Hunters (TV). While the two companies air their dirty laundry playing the blame game, viewers only really care about getting their favorite channels back on Cablevision. Before the New Year, Time Warner and Fox were having a bit of a spat and commercials ran on Fox looking to get support from their viewers. Threatening to take away shows like American Idol (TV), House M.D. (TV), Glee (TV), and other hit shows got flocks of viewers to call in and show support. Finally, on the 11th hour,...

The couple shared the details of their nuptials with People magazine, where they disclosed everything from their famous friends on the guest list (Jordin Sparks, Demi Lovato, Joey Fatone) to the catering (the menu was designed by noted celebrity chef and flying ham victim Paula Dean).
