The upcoming docuseries ‘First Act’ showcases the experiences of child actors and their parents in the Hindi TV and film industry. The series highlights the important role played by both parents and the industry in safeguarding the well-being of children.
“This was a project that had been sitting with me on the back burner for some time. Child actors are an integral part of the Indian film and television industry, and many beautiful stories would not be as impactful without them.
“However, these artistes face a unique set of challenges that I felt needed to be shared. I am so delighted that professionals who started their careers as child actors have come forward to support this project, in addition to the stalwarts,” said Deepa Bhatia, the director of the series.

Saina movie review is here. The Indian Hindi-language biographical sports film 'Saina' is directed by Amole Gupte and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Sujay Jairaj and Rashesh Shah under the banner of T-Series and Front Foot Pictures. Based on the life of Indian Badminton champion Saina Nehwal – the former world No.1, the movie stars Parineeti Chopra in the titular role. Saina was initially set to release in September 2020, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic in India. Saina is now scheduled to have a theatrical release on 26 March 2021.

Starring Arjun Rampal, Aishwarya Rajesh, Nishikant Kamat, Farhan Akhtar
Directed by Aushim Ahluwalia
Ask any actor of some worth. It is not easy to play a known living character. Audiences and the character that you are playing, plus their close associates, judge the performance with scrutinized harshness and normally find it wanting.
Not this time. Not Arun Gawli. Not Arjun Rampal who has shaped into one of Hindi cinema’s most dependable actors who does his roles with such smooth efficiency and such noiseless excellence that we are liable to miss the point.
Don’t make the mistake of confusing Arjun’s laidback wisdom in portraying the gangster-philanthropist-parliamentarian-convict Arun Gawle, as a Devganesque laziness. This is a power-packed implosive performance. Rampal plays Gawli as a time bomb waiting to explode. There are no extra toppings, fringe benefits, perks or bonuses to this performance.

Sniff!!!
Starring Khushmeet Gill, Manmeet Singh, Surekha Sikri, Sushmita Mukherjee
Directed by Amole Gupte
The best thing about Sniff!!! are the wonderful children—God bless their untarnished souls—who play detectives to a car thief in a Mumbai housing city.
But wait. This is much later. This is where our interest in the goings-on begins to flag. The minute Sunny Gill (the wonderfully solemn and wise Khushmeet) turns super-snooper the plot loses its flexibility and momentum and falls prey to a kind of hushed rush of juvenile activities that don’t really add up to much.
But this absence of a hefty payoff is not what we are looking for or missing in this film. Straight out, Sniff!!! is a charming ode to the tastebuds and the olfactory nerves, both co-related as one gives you a yummy feeling in the mouth and the other in the nose.
But what if...

Sachin: A Billion Dreams
Directed by James Erskine
Rating: **** ½(4 and a half stars)
There is something about Sachin Tendulkar, something so correct and so innocent you want him to win in life even when you know he is no more the ‘God’ of the cricket field.
The rousing farewell speech that Sachin gives at the end of this astutely emotional journey into the heart and mind of India’s most celebrated Bat Man left me dewy-eyed. This, when I know zilch about cricket and practically nothing about Sachin’s exploits on the field. What I do know—and what this film is able to tell us in comprehensive strokes of revelation—is that greatness is not thrust on the great by chance.
One has to break bones and crack ribs to get there.
Sachin A Billion Dreams is the story of a national hero who sails through every crisis...

Starring – Tabu, Katrina Kaif, Aditya Roy Kapoor and above all, Kashmir
Directed by Abhishek Kapoor
There is only one hero in Abhishek Kapoor’s massively disappointing and bogus adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. And it’s not Aditya Roy Kapoor. It’s Kashmir. The film, purported to be a romance between the bewitching Katrina Kaif and the besotted Aditya Roy Kapoor, romances just the Kashmir Valley. The rest is all mystery.
I recommend Fitoor be used to promote tourism in the Valley. As for Charles Dickens and Great Expectations, thankfully the author is not around to see how far his novel about forbidden love has been taken away from its roots.
Dickens’ title, as it turns out, proves prophetically ironic. You enter director Abhishek Kapoor’s snow-swept stunning world of stillness and turbulence, with a whole lot of expectations. You come away feeling cheated, betrayed and also angry for...

Roopa Jeevaji is the producer of the film "In Search of America, Inshallah.” The film tells the story of a young Pakistani woman who comes to America in search of her husband but finds her emancipation instead. This film also emphasizes on the importance of women's education.
Many women in India, Pakistan, Africa and many other remote villages/ places are deprived of education and are also not aware of its importance. The film hopes to help these woman understand that empowerment through education is vital. It also hopes to be the voice of every woman in these villages/ countries.
The film is being edited by Deepa Bhatia, one of Bollywood's, Mumbai's top editors (“My Name is Khan", "Taare Zameen Par”). Sonu Nigam, composer ("Slumdog Millionaire") is on board as the composer.
Here is a brief interview with producer Roopa Jeevaji
Are you in charge of the marketing and distribution of the film?
I am the actor/ producer of the film. Since this is an independent short film, our producers are working and addressing all tasks on all fronts including marketing and distribution.
When will it be finished?
The film is currently being edited in Mumbai and will be finished by the first week of November.
Do you have a distribution plan?
Basira Cinema which specializes in films about women will screen our film in selected theaters in London.
Talha Hussien who is a well known editor / distributor has agreed to support our film and screen it in Pakistan.
Also the Ep Arati Misro on our project who also heads the Women in Film International has confirmed the screening at Women In Film L.A.
Is there an international sales agent?
Not yet.
What is the marketing strategy?
“Women's Voices Now" has come on board as coproducer and will also screen the film at various avenues.
Deana from Mpac (Muslim Public Affairs Council ) is on board and will help us with the screening at Arclight, Hollywood.
Zainab Zeb from the documentary “Honor Diaries” has come on board as a co-producer and has a large following on social media.
Is there an online/ social networking strategy in place or being planned?
We have been very active on our Facebook page and Twitter with posts and blogs about related stories of women, the importance of education and lastly an updated production status of our film. Several of our actors have a large following from India on Facebook and Twitter. That will help get the word out as well.
How do film festivals fit into your marketing strategy?
Kimberley Browning from ‘Hollywood Shorts’ will strategize with us for festival packages once the film is complete.
We hosted an event in L.A. at the Levantine Cultural Center on Aug 23rd. The Center champions a greater understanding by presenting artistic and educational programs that bridge political and religious divides. The chief guest Consul General of Pakistan unveiled the trailer. Amie Williams, the co-founder of 'Global Girl Media' was one of the guest speakers and writer Sameer Asad Gardez (“Aliens in America”, “Modern Family”, “Mr. Sunshine”, “Outsourced”) who recently won the WGA 'versatile comedy writer' award attended the event.
It has been a team effort with the director Danish Renzu and myself . Since it is his directorial debut (he has directed two other short films prior to this) and since this is my first time producing honestly, (I am an actor primarily) we have wanted to create content that is inspiring and with a message. Hence we have invested a lot of time and effort to get this right and have strategically planned this through . Marketing wise, we just have reached out to all avenues that we thought would like the story and the message we have to deliver. Danish also has many contacts in London and Pakistan and that has helped.

At first glance, this movie seems like a typical underdog-success story we have all seen on the screen so many times. But the fact that Amole Gupte has lent his magic to this venture is enough reason in itself to check out what Hawaa Hawaai is all about.
Continuing with his field of expertise, Amole brings to us yet another endearing story about children. Arjun Waghmare (Partho Gupte) at first glance is yet another chai-wala kid in Mumbai – the many Chotus and Rajus that you see daily. And like every other kid, he has dreams – dreams that no amount of hardship can break. When Arjun sets his eyes on the skates for the first time, he feels a happiness he hasn’t in a long time. But for a kid who can barely afford a meal two times a day, skating seems like a pretty expensive dream.
Undeterred, he and his gang of friends – Gochi,...

Amol Gupte's film Stanley Ka Dabba has been doing the rounds at various film festivals the latest being the International Film Festival for Children and Young Audiences Schlingel held every year in Chemnitz in Germany. This year, Partho won the award for best actor beating 130 other contenders from across the globe. Amole, Deepa and Partho attended this festival and were really thrilled also because it was a jury that comprised of 20 children who made the decision. Speaking on this win from Germany Amole says, "The Schlingel festival celebrates children and their spirit. In fact Schlingel means 'rascal'! Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves...plus a statuette of a naughty boy for Partho." While closer to home, Mr. Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios says, "Stanley Ka Dabba is probably the most important film made this year. While the film is set in India, its message is relevant across the world. We at Fox...

Amole Gupte is an ambitious filmmaker and he makes no bones about it. To that effect, the beginning of the film is noteworthy. Gupte makes a reference to Indian cinema classics like Damle and Fattelal’s Sant Tukaram and Ghatak’s Meghe Dhaka Tara before claiming that he has attempted to enter the same league of Indian masters with Stanley Ka Dabba, a 100 years later!
The film begins with a beautiful animation by Gitanjali Rao, the same filmmaker whose animation films will screen in Cannes Critics Week and Cannes Film Market this year. Beauty and innocence run innately through the film, emerging from the children who feature in Stanley Ka Dabba. To extract such natural performances from children is an achievement on the part of the filmmaker. Or should they be called performances at all,...

Amol Gole
Amol Gole must be feeling like a magician at the moment, and the magic wand in his hand is a Dslr camera. After having shot successfully Amole Gupte’s Stanley Ka Dabba on a Canon 7D, he has gone on to shoot another Marathi film Gajjar on 7D and is now shooting a documentary on Canon 5D. The cinematographer talks about his discovery of the magic of Dslr a day before his film Stanley Ka Dabba hits the theatres…
Why is Stanley Ka Dabba shot on Canon 7D?
The film is shot on Canon 7D because the idea was to shoot the kids in the theatre and cinema sessions without causing any intrusion. The sessions were a regular activity and we were shooting them. We used a Canon 7D because the size was very small and we didn’t want to scare the kids.
So, how did the film come about?...

A behind the scenes look into the contemporary world of Bollywood movies and Bollywood stars. What?s hot, what?s not; how things work and who are the people pushing the buttons that make it work.–Udita Jhunjhunwala
The last few years have seen a surge in independent films with modest budgets and actors, as opposed to stars, in their cast making waves in Bollywood. Examples would stretch back to Khosla Ka Ghosla and forwards to Love, Sex Aur Dhokha, Udaan and last month?s release Shor in the City.
Shor in the City
The constrained budget of these films leaves limited resources for publicity and promotions. The producers certainly do not have surplus funds to ?buy? media and thereby influence public opinion. Over the last few years the trend has been for the directors and producers of these films to host multiple private screenings of their films weeks before release.

It is a well known fact that actor-filmmaker Amole Gupte was supposed to helm Taare Zameen Par, which eventually became Aamir Khan?s directorial debut. With Stanley Ka Dabba, which releases this Friday (May 13), Gupte convincingly proves that he would have been more than able to champion his earlier project.
The artist, writer, director, actor (who will be seen next in Bheja Fry 2) and now producer, Gupte talks to Udita Jhunjhunwala about the small film with a big heart.
Education and methods of learning are very important to both you and your wife, film editor Deepa Bhatia, right?
Education is not merely about rote learning and heavy schoolbags. We picked our son Partho?s school based on ideology and I immediately became secretary of the PTA, introducing art, theatre, poetry, thought-to-song workshops in the school. I went to a school where the principal was an art teacher and the Hindi...
