- During the late 1970s and the 1980s she took a hiatus in her career, as she married Puerto Rican singer Chucho Avellanet and moved to the Caribbean island-nation.

- She later lived with Mexican film director Mauricio Walerstein, giving birth to their son, actor Alejandro Walerstein, in 1993. Following Walerstein's death, Berti battled depression, to the point of having suicidal thoughts, but she recuperated.
