Ring ring.
Night Agent is returning with season two and in the new trailer (below) that dropped on Christmas, Gabriel Basso‘s Peter Sutherland is on the run.
The Sony Pictures TV and Shawn Ryan conspiracy series that was a mega-hit for Netflix in 2023 returns after almost two years with season two on Jan. 23, 2025. Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent‘s first season centered on Peter as a low-level FBI agent answering overnight calls for the secretive White House organization called Night Action. His heroic efforts (he saved the president) earned him a promotion to Night Agent by the end of the season. But, as the trailer shows, a mission outside of Washington, D.C. now puts a target on his back once again.
The trailer for the 10-episode new season dropped — literally — during the NFL’s Ravens vs. Texans Christmas game that aired live on Netflix.

Netflix’s The Night Agent is looking to boost its ranks.
Genesis Rodriguez (Lioness) is in talks to join the espionage drama for its third season. Netflix has already greenlit a third installment of one of its most popular shows, which stars Gabriel Basso as a low-level FBI agent who’s thrust into a far-reaching conspiracy.
Rodriguez is set to be a regular on season three, which is set to begin filming soon in Istanbul and continue in New York early next year. Details on her role are being kept quiet for now.
Netflix declined comment.
Season two of The Night Agent, meanwhile, is scheduled to premiere Jan. 23. It will find Peter Sutherland (Basso) getting a chance to work as a Night Agent after his actions in season one. But working in the secretive organization of Night Action propels him into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply.

Netflix and Sony Pictures Television’s hit series “The Night Agent” has filled out its cast for Season 2 with Michael Malarkey (“The Vampire Diaries”) and Keon Alexander (“The Expanse”) as series regulars and Navid Negahban (“Homeland”) and Rob Heaps (“Station 11”) as recurring guest stars, opposite returning stars Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan.

We may know where Peter was headed when he jetted off in the Season 1 finale of The Night Agent.
Filming has begun on the second season of Netflix’s hit thriller drama, with the streamer’s start-of-production announcement unveiling that shooting of the new season will take place primarily in New York City with additional filming in Thailand and Washington D.C.
Season 1 of The Night Agent was set in and around Washington D.C. and filmed in Vancouver.
Given that we last saw Peter (Basso) taking off from D.C. in a private jet on his first mission as a Night Action spy, it is safe to assume that he is going to Thailand or a nearby country. That would answer one of the finale’s biggest questions.
Other major questions The Night Agent showrunner Shawn Ryan expected the show to address in Season 2 back in March include, What does it mean that Peter would be a night agent? Now that Rose is going back to California to try to restart her tech career, where does that leave Peter and Rose?
Season 2 also is moving the center of the action from the nation’s capital to the Big Apple as the series is rewarded for its big success in Season 1 — which ranks as the sixth most popular season of an English-language series on Netflix — with more expensive filming locations.
Basso and Luciane Buchanan return alongside previously announced new cast members Amanda Warren, Arienne Mandi, Louis Herthum, Berto Colon, Brittany Snow and Teddy Sears.
The Night Agent is on a very tight schedule as Netflix announced last week that Season 2 will premiere in 2024. Getting a 10-episode season of an elaborate action drama series ready before end of the year will be a major feat, especially given the fact that series on a global streamer like Netflix take longer to release because they also have to undergo dubbing/subtitling for the various territories.
The Night Agent is a character-based, action-thriller whose first season centered on a low-level FBI Agent who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast-moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads to the Oval Office.
The series is created, showrun and executive produced by Shawn Ryan through his MiddKid Productions banner. David Beaubaire, Seth Gordon, Julia Gunn, Marney Hochman, Paul Neinstein, William Sherak, Nicole Tossou, James Vanderbilt, Paul Bernard and Munis Rashid also executive produce. The Night Agent is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Inspired by the television series and the feature film, S.W.A.T. stars Moore as a former Marine and locally born and raised S.W.A.T. sergeant tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles. More good news for S.W.A.T. The series, which just got a renewal for a seventh and final season by CBS, also has a new streaming home. Netflix has made a substantial deal with lead studio Sony Pictures TV for the first five seasons of the action drama starring Shemar Moore, which will begin streaming in the U.S. on May 17. The current sixth season of the series is expected to join them on the platform in the fall.
As part of CBS’ deal for S.W.A.T. (and its other shows), current seasons of the network’s series are available on Paramount+ for their duration and a few months after they end their broadcast run. S.W.A.T.’s first three seasons are also currently on Hulu.

After a week of behind-the-scenes drama, it’s fantastic to know going into this first part of a two-part season six finale that S.W.A.T. isn’t going to end prematurely. CBS announced the series had been canceled, despite the ratings growing year-over-year, and then quickly reversed their decision after fans – and Shemar Moore – made their displeasure known. The network confirmed there will be a shortened season seven. (Read all about it here).

CBS’ drama Swat will live for one more season after the network reversed course on canceling the series.
Three days after announcing Swat would end with its sixth season, which wraps on May 19, the network on Monday picked up a final season. The series, a co-production between Sony Pictures TV and CBS Studios, will now get a seventh and final season on CBS. It will run for 13 episodes.
Swat would likely have gone down as the most watched network show to get the axe this season (Fox is saying goodbye to 911, which draws a larger audience, but that series will live on at ABC). The cancellation on Friday stirred outcry among the show’s viewers and star Shemar Moore, who called the move “a fucking mistake” in an Instagram video over the weekend.

“S.W.A.T” has been renewed for Season 7 at CBS, which will also be the show’s last. The move marks a stunning reversal of the network’s decision to cancel the show just three days ago.
According to sources, talks continued between CBS and series co-producer Sony Pictures Television over the weekend following the cancellation announcement. The show has been a solid performer for CBS in its Friday night timeslot, with the decision ultimately coming down to the show’s financials. In addition to the renewal, series star Shemar Moore will serve as an executive producer on the final season.
“We have listened to our viewers and their outpouring of passion for ‘S.W.A.T.’ and we have reached an agreement to renew it for a final season of 13 episodes to air during the 2023-2024 broadcast year,” said CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach and Sony Pictures Television Studios president Katherine Pope in a joint statement.

Translators introduction: This article by Mireille Latil Le Dantec, the second of two parts, was originally published in issue 40 of Cinématographe, September 1978. The previous issue of the magazine had included a dossier on "La qualité française" and a book of a never-shot script by Jean Grémillon (Le Printemps de la Liberté or The Spring of Freedom) had recently been published. The time was ripe for a re-evaluation of Grémillon's films and a resuscitation of his undervalued career. As this re-evaluation appears to still be happening nearly 40 years later—Grémillon's films have only recently seen DVD releases and a 35mm retrospective begins this week at Museum of the Moving Image in Queens—this article and its follow-up gives us an important view of a French perspective on Grémillon's work by a very perceptive critic doing the initial heavy-lifting in bringing the proper attention to the filmmaker's work.

The world is all out of whack: multiple Dutch tilts are on display in Voyage sans espoir (1943), an unbelievably glossy poetic realist proto-noir from Christian-Jaque: the film actually begins with railway tracks viewed from the front of a speeding train, upside down, as the camera drunkenly rolls upright and titles come flying towards us, slapping flat across the frame like flies hitting a windshield.
The plot is convoluted but crisp—chance encounters tie together Jean Marais, fleeing his job at a bank to see life and settle in Argentina, with an escaped jailbird of psychopathic demeanor (Paul Bernard) and his girlfriend, the radiant Simone Renant. There's also a likably crooked ship's captain carrying a torch for Renant, a sinister ethnic-type sailor (Ky Duyen), and a pair of hard-drinking but eternally sober detectives who resemble nothing more than the Thompson Twins from Tintin. Edinburgh International Film Festival, under the direction of Chris Fujiwara, has ended for the year, and with it the Jean Grémillon retrospective, Symphonies of Life. Gathering most of the features (saving a few for-hire assignments) and all the surviving shorts, the season afforded an overview rarely possible with this neglected filmmaker.
Though the shorts were not my favorite Grémillons, they do illuminate the rest of his body of work. Documentaries on alchemy and astrology expose the filmmaker's fascination with the esoteric sciences, a major part of his life, which informs the tarot scenes in Lumière d'été and Maldone, where the cards indeed know all. Grémillon's sonorous, dreamy tones probably make him the greatest director-narrator outside of Orson Welles, and his self-penned music may be the finest outside of Chaplin's. The festival also played, at a fascinating symposium, the player piano score Grémillon wrote for a lost silent short,...

A father, worried sick that his wife may be dead, walks his son and daughter across a rain-slicked square, while a long line of black-clad children from an orphanage snakes past them in the other direction. The bars of a castle-shaped birdcage, which has been the backdrop for a bitter quarrel between an aristocrat and his middle-aged mistress, gives way to a shot of a mountaintop hotel crisscrossed by countless panes of glass. A man and woman on the verge of an affair walk through an empty seaside house that evokes both their waning marriages and the life they will never have together.

Introduction
In Laissez-passer [Safe Conduct], the film that the French director Bertrand Tavernier made in 2002, we see the French film industry of the Occupation years as a ruined and almost shut-down institution that is highly dependent on the factor of chance. In his story, Tavernier exculpates one of the key figures of the occupation cinema, Henri-Georges Clouzot, from the accusation of collaborating with the Nazis. He pictures Clouzot as a man whose Jewish wife has been held hostage by the Nazis and, and against all odds, he finishes Le corbeau about the vicious and nasty people of a small town in France, where someone is sending poison pen letters to its "honourable" citizens. Le corbeau became a very popular box-office hit during the Occupation, and, at the same time, the underground press attacked it for showing France as a land of the degenerate and perverted people, a view that, according to accusers,...
