The queer psychological horror I Saw the TV Glow was quietly released in theaters last Friday, after having its premiere at Sundance in January and after its limited release on May 3. Distributed by A24, the movie might not become a box office record-breaker, but it seems that the critics love it, and that might motivate people to go see the movie.

The new "Doctor Who" season's second installment, "The Devil's Chord," is the closest the show's come to a proper musical episode. Audible‘s Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is not moving forward with a second season.

The podcast series co-author Christopher Golden confirmed the news on Wednesday (February 21).

“Hugely disappointed to share that, despite its enormous success, Disney has refused to allow Audible to proceed with future seasons of Slayers: A Buffyverse Story. To my knowledge, they have provided no explanation,” he wrote on social media.

The world of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" returned last week — but it looks a lot different than the last time fans saw it. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" might have left TV screens 20 years ago, but the exploits of the slayer and her compatriots didn't end in 2003. Take for instance how many of the events from the much-derided "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" movie were re-written back into Buffy lore, so to speak, in a 1999 comic book series by Dan Brereton and Christopher Golden entitled "The Origin." Co-signed by "Buffy" creator and showrunner Joss Whedon, "The Origin" basically retold the 1992 film in a way that fit Whedon's original vision and the show's tone. And that's just one of many Buffy tales that have been told outside of the show proper.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was once the most progressive show on television, so how is it possible that someone with a long history of mistreating women could create a long-standing feminist masterpiece? Series creator Joss Whedon was once at the top of the world of superhero fans and comic book nerds, many of whom fell in love with his beautiful blonde avatar, Buffy, a demon-fighting highschooler with superhuman strength and agility. The show's heroine was a uniquely powerful depiction of a ditzy Valley girl, turning the then-contemporary damsel-in-distress archetype on its head. But we've since learned that, behind the scenes, Whedon was doing everything he could to make the women of the show feel powerless.

The audio original was written by original cast member Amber Benson alongside writer Christopher Golden, and directed by Benson, Golden, and Kc Wayland. For the first time in 20 years, the supernatural drama will reunite original series stars.

Amber Benson wanted nothing more than to see Cordelia Chase become a vampire slayer, so when the opportunity presented itself, the Buffy actress-turned-writer didn’t hesitate to make her dream come true.

Slayers: A Buffyverse Story — an Audible Original that releases all nine episodes Thursday, Oct. 12 — follows Spike (voiced by James Marsters) as he goes deep undercover in Los Angeles, convincing the forces of darkness that he’s back to his evil ways. There, he meets 16-year-old newly appointed slayer Indira (The Equalizer’s Laya DeLeon Hayes) and a parallel universe’s Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter), who is the one-and-only slayer back home.

The cast of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is ready to reclaim the narrative. Through the new Audible original, “Slayers: A Buffyverse Story,” several actors from the acclaimed drama series are back together to play their beloved characters once again — this time in an audio original podcast.

“Slayers” is co-written by Amber Benson, who portrayed Tara in “Buffy,” and Christopher Golden, who has penned multiple books in the “Buffyverse.” Before the Covid pandemic, Benson began calling her former costars to see who might want to be involved, focusing on the characters she felt weren’t serviced enough in the original show. She also wanted to find a way to highlight what it means to be a slayer who is also a woman of color.

Since "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" staked its last monster 20 years ago, the franchise hasn't exactly rested peacefully. Continuation comics, novels, and planned reboots have kept the Buffyverse alive, but its legacy has also been complicated by allegations of workplace misconduct and bullying made against series creator Joss Whedon.

The latest installment of the world of Buffy, the Audible series "Slayers: A Buffyverse Story," aims to course-correct that, reuniting key cast members for the first time ever to tell a story Whedon plays no part in. To say the writer is nowhere to be found here would be inaccurate, though, as "Slayers" -- an intermittently charming, sometimes forced new chapter -- is all about overcoming the toxic influence of the past.

The story takes place roughly 12 years after Buffy Summers instilled all potential slayers with their full power, breaking a cycle of pain and isolation that afflicted centuries worth of chosen teen girls.

A number of other original cast members, Charisma Carpenter, Anthony Head, Juliet Landau, Emma Caulfield Ford, Amber Benson, James Charles Leary, Danny Strong, will also make a return for the Audible series, which will premiere Oct. 12.

The original series’ titular star, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who has ruled out an involvement in the potential Buffy reboot, is not part of Slayers: A Buffyverse Story, which is set in an alternate reality where Buffy Summers never existed.

The original cast members of the series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” are returning for an Audible original story, “Slayers: A Buffyverse Story,” set in the same world as the original show. The new story will focus on Spike (James Marsters) as the protagonist and premieres Oct. 12.

In Slayers: A Buffyverse Story, Emma Caulfield will voice her Buffy the Vampire Slayer character Anya alongside her former costars James Marsters (Spike), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia), Anthony Head (Giles), Juliet Landau (Drusilla), Amber Benson (Tara), James Charles Leary (Clem) and Danny Strong (Jonathan). The audio-only story hits Audible on Oct. 12, and as teased by Caulfield on Instagram Wednesday, her character is going to play a big part of the Spike-centric story to come.
