And it was doled out by a surprise fellow CBS host in a winning TV crossover. In a clip from a recent episode shared by Tpir’s YouTube on Thursday (November 7), Drew Carey called on the sweet-as-could-be Linda from South Carolina to play the Cliff Hangers game. Cliff Hangers entails a hand-painted aluminum mountain climber who climbs up a mountain based on how far the contestant misses the prize’s price, and missing it by too many causes the mountain climber to plummet to his doom. Carey revealed an “extra special treat” was in store. In honor of CBS’ new series The Summit, host Manu Bennett joined the show for a crossover to introduce a trip for two to New Zealand.

When “The Summit” returns to CBS for its second episode, it will unveil exactly what host Manu Bennett meant when he referred to “The Mountain’s Keeper” and her difficult choices.

Or, as the episode logline puts it, “After an unexpected twist reverberates throughout the group, game plans shift as they begin to tackle harder terrain. While the trekkers are challenged with crossing an extremely rickety bridge, emotions surge as the Mountain’s Keeper arrives with a shocking choice for the trekkers to make, leaving one person’s fate hanging by a thread.”

New Zealand just might find itself flooded with American tourists after CBS’ The Summit airs. When the series premiere opens, we’re greeted with gorgeous raging rivers, plummeting waterfalls and thunderous mountains. Soak it in. It’s all breathtaking, even from the comforts of the couch, isn’t it?

Host Manu Bennett (Spartacus, Arrow) explains the setup. Sixteen Americans will be tasked with climbing a monstrous peak in just 14 days. If successful, they’ll earn their share of $1 million. But challenges and stunts will test them along the way, including difficult decisions that will force them to flex some strategy and turn against each other.

While CBS is currently airing “Survivor” Season 47 and the latter half of “Big Brother” 26 this fall, “The Amazing Race” will be taking a brief hiatus in favor of a new entry on the network’s reality TV lineup.

Villains really are the new superheroes.

DC Studios has tapped screenwriter Matthew Orton (“Captain America: Brave New World”) to write a feature film that will involve Batman villains Bane and Deathstroke, Variety has confirmed. The project is still in its infancy: There are no stars or director attached, and DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran have been clear that they will not greenlight a project until they are satisfied with a complete screenplay.

The movie follows a growing trend in the superhero space of projects focusing as much on the villains as on the heroes, from the ongoing HBO series “The Penguin” and Disney+ series “Agatha All Along” to Warner Bros. upcoming sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux” and Sony’s upcoming Marvel adaptations “Venom: The Last Dance” and “Kraven the Hunter.”

Introduced in the early 1990s, the brutish Bane is best known for Tom Hardy’s menacing portrayal of the character in the 2012 Christopher Nolan film The Dark Knight Rises. More recently, a comical take on Bane has been voiced by James Adomian in the animated series Harley Quinn.

Meanwhile, the former Army operative Slade Wilson/Deathstroke has been portrayed by Manu Bennett in Greg Berlanti’s CW series Arrow and Joe Manganiello in a post-credit scene of Justice League. At one point, Manganiello was slated to reprise the character in a Ben Affleck-starring solo Batman movie...

DC loves spotlighting its villains, and THR reports that another villain-centric project is in the works. The outlet has heard that DC Studios is developing a movie that will unite Bane and Deathstroke. Matthew Orton, who worked on Captain America: Brave New World, has penned the script but no director is attached to the project.

DC has always excelled at highlighting villains, with the recently released Penguin series starring Colin Farrell as an example. We’ve also got Joker: Folie à Deux coming next week. I’ll confess that I’m not a big comic-book guy, so Deathstroke and Bane seem like a random pairing, but I’m sure the more comic-literate among you will be able to set me right. Manu Bennett will host The Summit, an action-adventure reality competition series just given a series order by CBS. The series is based on an Australian show and is expected to premiere this year.

“The Summit encompasses everything our viewers love in a reality show – everyday people overcoming and conquering their fears, a fierce game of strategy, and an intense physical and emotional competition,” stated Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “Set against a breathtaking mountain backdrop, this is a high-stakes, adrenaline-filled game with thrilling twists and turns that make for riveting and inspiring television.”

Executive producers include Kevin Lee, Tina Nicotera, and Endemol Shine North America’s Sharon Levy and DJ Nurre.

Nick Tarabay to star in ‘Spartacus: House of Ashur’ (Photo Credit: Starz)

In February 2023, prior to the huge writers and actors strikes, Starz announced their plans to revisit the world of Spartacus. Now that the dust has (basically) settled on both strikes, Starz revealed the new Spartacus chapter will be called Spartacus: House of Ashur and that Nick Tarabay is reprising his role as Ashur.

Tarabay played the villainous character in Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

Spartacus creator, writer, and executive producer Steven S. DeKnight returns to guide the new 10-episode season as showrunner. “To be afforded the opportunity to return a decade later to a series you loved is such a rare, wonderful opportunity,” said Steven S. DeKnight. “I could not be more excited to craft this next chapter in the Spartacus saga with Starz, Lionsgate, and the incomparable Nick Tarabay.”

Spartacus may be returning to Starz. The cable channel is developing a spinoff of the historical drama series with Spartacus co-creator Steven S. DeKnight. as showrunner The original series aired for four seasons and 39 episodes, between 2010 and 2013. Andy Whitfield played the title role in the first season and Liam McIntyre took over for the remaining two regular seasons, due to Whitfield's passing from cancer. A prequel season, which didn't focus on Spartacus, aired in 2011.

Also starring John Hannah, Manu Bennett, Jai Courtney, Peter Mensah, Nick E. Liam McIntyre as Spartacus

Starz is ready to return to the world of gladiators with a new chapter in the Spartacus franchise. Spartacus series creator Steven S. DeKnight is also diving back into ancient Rome as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the new series.

“It’s such an incredible honor to be invited to return to the world of Spartacus and to be met with unbridled creative support from my colleagues at Starz and Lionsgate,” said Steven S. DeKnight. “Together we are crafting something truly unique and unusual for the next chapter in this epic story.”

DeKnight took to Twitter to confirm he’s currently writing the pilot.

Spartacus aired for four seasons on the network, kicking off in 2010 with Spartacus: Blood and Sand starring Andy Whitfield in the title role. Tragically, Whitfield passed away in September 2011 of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Liam McIntyre took over the role beginning in season two.

Everyone, get out your swords and sandals because we're heading back to the arena! Starz has just announced that it is currently developing a new "Spartacus" series! Forgive the excessive use of exclamation points, but I loved every minute of this show from the first moment to the last, including the prequel "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena."

The first season of the series was entitled "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" and debuted in 2010. Before the second season, star Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with early-stage non-Hodgkin lymphoma, leading to the prequel to give him time to recover. Sadly, he passed away, and the role was recast with Liam McIntyre for season 2, "Spartacus: Vengeance" and season 3, "Spartacus: War of the Damned." 

The show was, as our title says, very sexy. Still, it was also a compelling drama about the titular Thracian gladiator who led a revolt of enslaved people against the Roman empire.

Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight is expanding the franchise once again with a new series currently in development at Starz. DeKnight will serve as showrunner and executive producer of the as-yet-untitled project.

The next chapter will explore uncharted territory and new journeys of the original series’ iconic characters. In the aftermath of the defeat of Spartacus and his rebel army in the series finale, the new drama will depict a new tale of treachery, deceit, and blood unfolding beneath the foreboding shadow of Rome.

New Zealand’s Tūhoe people have faced more than a century of aggression for daring to keep their culture alive. As relayed at the start of Tearepa Kahi’s thriller Muru (a Māori word for their process of redressing transgressions), the facts are undeniable. In 1916, the police staged a raid to arrest Tūhoe prophet Rua Kenana on charges of sedition (he would later be acquitted and instead charged with resisting). A half-hour gunfight ensued leaving two dead and six wounded. Then the police staged another in 2007 to arrest leader Tame Iti for organizing what they called a “domestic terrorist” cell only to later apologize and admit their actions set relations back decades. It’s no wonder the film’s first frame states that New Zealand’s police don’t “endorse” its content.
