Welcome to the latest installment in our regular Movies You May Have Missed series here on Nerdly, in which I highlight some of, what I think, are the best movies that have flown under the radar of many or have been “forgotten” in the intervening years since its release. This time round its The Hunters, a hunting humans horror “starring” Dianna Agron (remember her? From Glee?) and Nam: Tour of Duty’s Terence Knox.
Stars: Chris Briant, Jay Brown, Steven Waddington, Tony Becker, Terence Knox, Dianna Agron | Written by Michael Lehman | Directed by Chris Briant
Official Synopsis:
An Iraq war veteran, Le Saint, has just started working as a police officer in a small town where many unexplained disappearances of persons have occurred within the last two years. He wants to investigate the cases, but his hot-tempered chief charges him with with the escort of a turn state’s evidence.

The Hunters
Stars: Chris Briant, Jay Brown, Steven Waddington, Tony Becker, Terence Knox, Dianna Agron | Written by Michael Lehman | Directed by Chris Briant
When an increasing number of people are reported missing, but no one makes any moves to investigate, detective LeSaint takes an interest and steps in. What he doesn’t expect is that his superiors don’t seem to be taking the situation very seriously and tell him that people go missing all the time. Ignoring his orders, he decides to investigate further until his leads take him to the mysterious and abandoned Fort Goben where a group of townsfolk spend their weekends hunting. Only their prey aren’t animals.
A co-production of France, Luxembourg and Belgium, from a first time writer and a first time director? And a director who also stars as the films lead no less? That usually doesn’t bode well for any film.

Director: Chris Briant.
Writer: Michael Lehman.
Cast: Steven Waddington, Tony Becker, Terence Knox and Dianna Agron.
It is a little strange to see actors Tony Becker and Terence Knox reunited after twenty years from their "Tour of Duty" days. They are on the same side again in this European shot thriller. Set in Luxembourg, The Hunters is one of the more unpredictable thrillers to be seen by this reviewer in quite sometime. The use of surreal intercutting shows Briant's strong understanding for showing character's emotions externally and this feature is a must see for thriller fans.
The story begins with Det. Le Saint (Chris Briant). His name is not just a title as Le Saint tries to find the source of several disappearances. His investigation leads him to Fort Goben, a human gaming preserve. Once you are in Goben there is no easy road home. Le...

2011 brought a lot of great horror films. From Stake Land to A Lonely Place to Die, there were a lot of films to watch and enjoy. 2011 also served up a lot of misery as well. Here at 28Dla, this reviewer has learned to dodge a few bullets in the movie world. Admittedly, this reviewer skipped Fred Andrews' Creature in theatres and the latest forced production of the Hellraiser series, titled Hellraiser: Revelations was also missed thanks to some early reviews. However a few films slipped under the radar or were shipped to the 28Dla HQ with little warning or previous info'. These are some of those films.
Some of the elements that made a terrible film this year were the inability to create tension or to create interesting characters. Without tension or thrills what is a horror film? As well, not providing any backstory for a character is a...

*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by Mti Home Video.
Director/writer: Jordan Blum.
Writers: DJ Perry, Lynn Drzick, Nancy Gideon and Jordan Blum.
The creature feature was a genre that found some heights in the '60s. Now, in the 21st Century, this genre seems to often be a rehash of material from the past. Also, unbelievably, there have been dozens of features created which have centered on the Bigfoot aka Sasquatch. From the Legend of Bigfoot (1977) to Sasquatch (2009), there have been Sasquatch-ploitation films which try to entertain, but sometimes fail. The latest addition to the genre is Mti Home Video's Savage, starring Martin Kove (The Karate Kid) and Tony Becker ("Tour of Duty"). It is like an '80s reunion! However, there is little originality here and no reasonable argument to explain the supposed origin of Bigfoot. Instead, Savage is another entry for Worst...

If you like a good monster movie with genuine indie appeal then you're likely to enjoy the upcoming release of the lively Bigfoot film Savage from the burgeoning low budget genre production company Fearmakers.
A limited budget goes a long way when you have a clever and imaginative script, a spirited and eclectic cast and impressive directing from first time feature film director Jordan Blum. It's obvious on only a handful of scenes that this is an ultra low budget feature.
I quickly fell in love with the many interesting characters and their carefully woven stories that were just intricate enough to still leave room for the many subtle nuances as well as heart-racing and well filmed action sequences and gory kills. On many scenes I couldn't tell whether the gore and kills were used sparingly because of lack of budget or for dramatic effect and character development.

The European Film Market has managed to bring two more genre flicks to the shores of North America as IFC Films gets the rights to Spiderhole and Toronto based (Yay Canada!) Raven Banner picked up The Hunters...
Directed by Daniel Simpson, Spiderhole is about four homeless art students in London who start squatting in an abandoned building. Obviously they aren't the only ones who happen to be in the house. The film stars Amy Noble, Emma Griffiths Malin, George Maguire and Reuben-Henry Biggs.
Check out the trailer here.
The Hunters, directed by Chris Briant, sees a group of friends gathering at an old isolated fort where their lives are turned upside down. This one stars Steven Waddington, Tony Becker, Terence Knox, Jay Brown and Dianna Agron.

Savage Movie Poster
The creature feature Savage has a new trailer, which shows the notorious bigfoot running from a raging forest fire. Director Jordon Blum (Climax) has already premiered this film in 2009 and while a release date has not been announced fans can watch this six foot+ nightmare make short work of a local fire crew. Enjoy the clip inside.
The synopsis for Savage here:
"A blazing forest fire rips through Bear Valley National Park. As the firefighters try to contain it, the animals are being forced out of their habitat including a beast that was better left undiscovered. Now several firefighters have gone missing and others have been found mutilated.
When word about the fire spreads, Dale, a scientist dedicated to proving the existence of Bigfoot, hires Jack, a local Bigfoot hunter, to help him track the beast. While Dale hopes to provide proof of the beast's existence, Jack is looking for revenge.

Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), seen left, has announced his participation in the Collective Development feature A State of Hate. From the press release the film is "inspired by true events" (Collective) and this reviewer hopes that writer Anthony Hornus can back up this claim. Based on true events is a title that gets slapped on a lot of horror films. Meanwhile, the film has also cast DJ Perry (An Ordinary Killer), Renee O'Connor (Xena: The Warrior Princess), Terence Knox (Tour of Duty), Tony Becker (Dean Teaster's Ghost Town), Renee Geerlings (Halloween II), and actor-comedian Johnny Dark. Shooting takes place within the state of Michigan and the film is a period piece that takes place in 1976. A "racial divide" and "simmering racial" tensions are sparked with the death of a "young black woman," (Collective) while white detective Lynn Kendall investigates. This action thriller will move into production once casting is complete, with more details inside.

Ernie Hudson, best known of course to horror fans for his recurring role as Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbuster films, is attached to star in Anthony Hornus' upcoming A State of Hate, which is a sequel to Hornus' 2003 film An Ordinary Killer. Hudson will play Nate Wallace, the father of a young murder victim in a small Michigan town.
The screenplay for A State of Hate was penned by Hornus and New York Times bestselling authors Diane Carey and Greg Brodeur (Star Trek series). The production company is Lansing, Michigan-based Collective Development Inc. Both An Ordinary Killer and A State of Hate are "based on/inspired by true events".
The movie will be filmed on location entirely in Michigan, and Hudson's co-stars include DJ Perry (pictured below with Hudson), who reprises his role as Detective Lynn Kendall from the recently released Special Edition of An Ordinary Killer, as well as Renée O'Connor,...
