- Had a medical career before turning to film work.

- Boris Barnet was invited to direct the movie The Conspiracy of Ambassadors (1966) and already started pre-production, but he unexpectedly committed suicide at age 62 in Riga, USSR [now Latvia]. So the movie was directed by Nikolai Rozantsev.
- Trained at the State Film School under Lev Kuleshov and first worked as assistant to Fedor Ozep in 1926. Did his best work as a director between 1928 and 1940, occasionally also appearing in his films.
