Rafael Barberán Domínguez was born in Barcelona, Spain. He studied chemistry, but his vision loss caused him to have to change professions. His wife, Àngels Gimeno, encouraged him to write, and helps him in the process. He became a prolific author of pulp fiction under the pseudonyms: Ralph Barby, Jhon Barry and Gim West.
