Brent Armitage is an American screenwriter, producer and director. Armitage got his start as an actor then moved behind the camera on such projects as Swing Shift and Miami Blues. He launched his writing career with his adaptation of the Gregory MacDonald novel Scutter for Columbia Pictures. Armitage then adapted the Ranulph Fiennes novel The Feather Men for ITV Granada Films. Other screenplay credits include Sideswipe and Mr Personality. He is most well known as the associate producer of Grosse Pointe Blank and producer of The Big Bounce
Throughout his career he has sought out quirky and innovative projects and has worked with some of the finest filmmakers in Hollywood, including Gary Goetzman, Jonathan Demme, Alec Baldwin, Owen Wilson, John Cusack, Morgan Freeman and Roger Corman to name just a few.
In 2000 Armitage founded the screenwriting development website StudioNotes. The site quickly became a gateway for previously undiscovered talent to develop material and directly access the studio system. StudioNotes employed some fifty development executives from throughout the industry. Armitage sold his interest in the company in 2003.
Armitage is a native of Los Angeles, California. He is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and continues to reside in Los Angeles today. He is a member of the Directors Guild of America, the Writers Guild of America, and the Screen Actors Guild.
