Alec Baldwin’s manslaughter case is finally over.
On Monday, special prosecutor Kari Morrissey announced she has withdrawn her appeal of a judge’s order dismissing the case.
The decision came after the state attorney general’s office said that it “did not intend to exhaustively pursue the appeal on behalf of the prosecution,” the prosecutor said.
In a separate statement Monday night, the attorney general’s office said that it “declined to appeal” the case “in light of the significant procedural irregularities” identified by the judge.
Lauren Rodriguez, a spokeswoman for Attorney General Raúl Torrez, said Tuesday that an appeal would have been “untenable” given the judge’s “blistering assessment of the special prosecutor’s gross mishandling of the case at trial.”
“Perhaps if the District Attorney had selected someone with more direct experience as a prosecutor this outcome could have been avoided,” Rodriguez added.

Three years after actor Alec Baldwin shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins due to a prop mishap on the set of the film Rust, the movie is premiering.
Rust will debut on Nov. 20 in Toruń, Poland, at the Camerimage Festival.
Baldwin shot Hutchins on Oct. 21, 2021, in New Mexico when he was rehearsing with a prop gun he thought was loaded with dummy rounds.
window._taboola = window._taboola || []; _taboola.push({ mode: 'thumbnails-mid', container: 'taboola-mid-article-thumbnails', placement: 'Mid Article Thumbnails', target_type: 'mix' });
As he waved the gun around, the prop fired real bullets that killed Hutchins. Also injured, though not fatally, was the movie’s director, Joel Souza.
The incident ignited a fierce argument over Baldwin’s responsibility in the accident as he acted irresponsibly with a prop but did not know the risk of his actions. Baldwin insisted he never pulled the trigger, contending he was not responsible for the tragedy.

Three years after an on-set gun accident claimed the life of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, the film premiered Wednesday at the EnergaCamerimage Festival in Poland. But many questions remain, including, why was the movie finished?
“It was not an easy decision,” admitted director Joel Souza in an interview with Variety at Camerimage, where he introduced “Rust” with Bianca Cline, the Dp who finished the movie. “I initially said no, numerous times. But it started to become clear to me that this is what the family wanted, that it was going to benefit them. And so that aspect of it was sort of an initial psychological hurdle that I cleared. Maybe, if this is important and they want me to do this, how can I say no?”
The director, who was also struck by a bullet and injured in the accident, said he then started to consider the notion of “preserving everything that she did.

The closing credits of Alec Baldwin’s Western film “Rust” begin with the words “for Halyna,” a tribute to cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who died following a gun accident while filming the movie on location in New Mexico in October 2021.
This is followed by a quote — “What can we do to make this better?” — which is attributed to Hutchins.
Her director of photography credit then reads “Halyna Hutchins, ASC.” That distinction is only used by members invited to join honorary society American Society of Cinematographers, to which Hutchins was named posthumously. At the time of the accident, she was considered an up-and-coming talent, with credits including 2020’s “Archenemy” and “Blindfire.”

The world premiere of the film “Rust” at Poland’s Camerimage festival revived debate about the tragic on-set shooting that murdered cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in 2021.
Olga Solovey, Hutchins’ mother, will not attend the screening, citing actor Alec Baldwin’s apparent lack of repentance and what she describes as attempts to “unjustly profit” on her daughter’s murder. The sold-out screening represents a difficult milestone for both the film’s production team and Hutchins’ family.
“It was always my hope to meet my daughter in Poland and see her work come to life on screen,” Solovey stated through her attorney, Gloria Allred. “Unfortunately, that was ripped away from me when Alec Baldwin discharged his gun and killed my daughter.”
The film’s route to the screen has been riddled with legal issues. Baldwin recently had his involuntary manslaughter charges dismissed by a New Mexico judge. On the other hand, Solovey’s...

“Rust” is set to debut on Wednesday at the Camerimage Festival in Poland, three years after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was accidentally shot and killed during production in New Mexico.
Hutchins’ mother, Olga Solovey, who is suing the production and actor Alec Baldwin, will not be there.
In a statement issued by her lawyer, Gloria Allred, on Tuesday, Solovey said she regards the premiere as an attempt to profit from her daughter’s death.
“It was always my hope to meet my daughter in Poland to watch her work come alive on screen,” said Solovey, who lives with her family in Ukraine. “Unfortunately, that was ripped away from me when Alec Baldwin discharged his gun and killed my daughter. Alec Baldwin continues to increase my pain with his refusal to apologize to me and his refusal to take responsibility for her death. Instead, he seeks to unjustly profit from his killing of my daughter.

"Bones" managed to differentiate itself from other TV procedurals by establishing a tone that carefully balanced drama, humor, and some of the most shockingly graphic murder scenes yet seen on TV. Some of the bodies on "Bones" just went too far in terms of sheer detail, with one gross bathtub scene having to be cut altogether. This form of uncensored violence doesn't seem like it would pair well with some light-hearted banter between the two series leads, Emily Deschanel and David Boreanez, but it was this delicate balance that made "Bones" what it was.
It's an approach that worked well enough to keep the Fox series running for 11 seasons before wrapping up in 2017. Now, the show seems primed for a streaming-age return, though a "Bones" reboot would be a complicated affair in the wake of Disney's 2019 acquisition of Fox. In the meantime, we do know Boreanez and Deschanel would be up for returning to "Bones,...

Ah, the old Matlock who isn’t really Matlock trick. Who could have possibly seen that coming? After all, the series is called “Matlock.” There’s nothing like drawing in a crowd with a distinguished name only to reveal that no such name exists.
Fortunately, the new Matlock isn’t half bad if you can mentally finagle your way around and through a few plot twists here and there. Gone are the days of simplicity, with intriguing, week-by-week courtroom dramas.
But, despite the new look, vibe, and Kathy Bates, there are some legitimate questions worth asking. This is especially true of the entire premise of that show.

Complexity for the sake of complexity isn’t always as complex as it seems. Does that make sense? Or, maybe it’s not such a big deal after all. For those not in the know (spoiler alert!), “Madeline Matlock” is not really Matlock,...

Roman Polanski settled a sexual assault lawsuit out of court, attorneys stated this week. A woman, referred to as Jane Doe, had accused the renowned director of sexually assaulting her in 1973 when she was 16 years old.
The case was scheduled for an August 2025 trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court. However, the parties reached an agreement this summer to resolve the matter privately. Polanski’s lawyer, Alexander Rufus-Isaacs, and the plaintiff’s attorney Gloria Allred confirmed a settlement. Both sides said the claims were settled to their “mutual satisfaction.”
Doe claimed she met Polanski at a party in 1973. He later allegedly gave her tequila shots and brought her to his Los Angeles home, where the sexual assault took place. Doe cited another of Polanski’s accusers, Samantha Geimer, as her motivation to come forward in 2017. “I am speaking out now so that Samantha and the world will know that she...

Roman Polanski, the Oscar-winning director who fled the U.S. after pleading guilty to statutory rape in 1977, has settled a separate civil case involving an alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in 1973. The lawsuit, set for trial next summer, has since been dismissed, according to Afp.
Filed in June of last year, the lawsuit accused Polanski of sexually assaulting the then-teenager, referred to as Jane Doe, after giving her tequila and driving her to his home. Plaintiff’s attorney Gloria Allred said the encounter caused “tremendous physical, emotional pain and suffering.”
Polanski’s lawyer confirmed the settlement, which was reached “to the parties’ mutual satisfaction,” and Allred also confirmed the settlement, reached this summer, to the Guardian.

Michael Jackson is one of the biggest legends in music, and it’s no surprise he’s called the King of Pop. During his life, he faced a lot of criticism for different reasons, but after his passing, the talk only seemed to increase. Along with that, some of his interviews and performances started going viral again, but one concert, in particular, really caught people off guard.

Exclusive: (Updated from original 3:54 Pm post) Hollywood figures made a big showing this afternoon as Vice President Kamala Harris made her first appearance at a Los Angeles fundraiser since becoming the Democratic nominee.
The downtown event raised more than $28 million, according to a campaign source.
“Every four years we say this is the one. This here is the one,” Harris told the crowd at the Jw Marriott hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
She received three standing ovations during her nearly half-hour of remarks. That came when she mentioned her debate with Donald Trump, then when she pledged to sign legislation restoring Roe vs. Wade, and then when she told the crowd, “Let me be clear. We are going to win.”
Today’s gathering was a mix of big donors willing to pay almost $1 million to be there and those shelling out just $500, with price levels sold out as of this morning.
The downtown event raised more than $28 million, according to a campaign source.

Sitting in Brooklyn’s notorious Metropolitan Detention Center after being arrested last week for sex trafficking and more, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is now facing yet another sexual assault lawsuit, with dozens more potentially looming.
In an action filed today in New York City, a Florida-based former model claims the ‘Bad Boy For Life’ performer intimidated her, drugged her, raped her and impregnated her over several years starting in 2021. Though Jane Doe claims that associates of Combs pressured her to have an abortion, she actually lost the child due to a miscarriage.
Still, allegedly forced to take ketamine, booze, have sex with other men and women, the anonymous plaintiff also says Combs tried to control her movement in and out of her and his homes. All of which sadly adds up to an M.O. common to the accusations from nearly one dozen other individuals against the Grammy winner since ex-girlfriend...

A week after Sean “Diddy” Combs entered a not guilty plea on sex trafficking charges and more, another lawsuit alleging severe sexual assault has been filed against the incarcerated performer/producer.
“In or around the summer of 2001, Plaintiff’s life was violently knocked off course when Defendants Sean Combs and Joseph Sherman viciously raped her at the Bad Boy Records studio in New York City,” says the complaint against Combs, his bodyguard and Bad Boy corporate entities filed in federal court in New York for Thalia Graves on Tuesday.
“Plaintiff was twenty-five at the time and dating one of Combs’ employees, a relationship that Combs exploited to lure Plaintiff into meeting him and Sherman alone,” the graphic suit adds. “Once they successfully sequestered Plaintiff, Combs and Sherman gave Plaintiff a drink, likely laced with a drug that eventually caused her briefly to lose consciousness. She awoke to find herself bound and restrained.

Sean Combs, the embattled music mogul who remains in jail while he awaits trial on federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges, has been sued for allegedly drugging and raping a woman in 2001.
Thalia Graves, in a lawsuit filed on Tuesday in New York federal court, says she was sexually assaulted by Combs and his bodyguard at Bad Boy Records’ New York studio after she was given a drink that caused her to briefly lose consciousness. She awoke “bound and restrained” as they “proceeded to brutally sexually abuse and violate” her, the complaint alleges.
Combs’ deepening legal trouble culminated last week with a three-count indictment accusing him of directing a vast criminal enterprise through which he assaulted and trafficked women with the aid of his business empire from at least 2008. Prosecutors accused him of engaging in a “pervasive pattern of abuse” that involved coercing women to participate in highly-orchestrated sexual encounters with male sex workers,...

Updated, 2:15 Pm: A Manhattan judge today set a tentative start date of the rape retrial of convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein. With the disgraced former movie mogul in the courtroom briefly, Judge Curtis Farber penciled in November 12 but said he was open to earlier trial date depending on how quickly prosecutors move through the grand jury.
Prosecutors told Farber that they still after going through allegations from women who have come forward since Weinstein’s conviction was overturned on appeal in April. Read details of the case below.
Previously, May 1: “We believe in this case, and we will be retrying this case,” prosecutors in Harvey Weinstein’s New York rape case told a judge today in the first hearing since the much-accused producer’s 2020 conviction was overturned last week. “It was a strong case in 2020 …and it remains a strong case in 2024,” added Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg.

In the wake of Alec Baldwin’s Rust case – which centered on whether he pulled the trigger that led to the untimely death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins – being dismissed over the handling of evidence, there are still a lot of unanswered questions. And while Baldwin took time to express gratitude for his support system throughout the past few years, prosecutors are looking to bring several of these questions back into the courtroom.
Alec Baldwin took to Instagram not long after the case was thrown out, posting – along with a photo of himself from the trial – “There are too many people who have supported me to thank just now. To all of you, you will never know how much I appreciate your kindness toward my family.”

Santa Fe, N.M. — Alec Baldwin no longer faces the risk of prison in the accidental death of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, after a judge threw out his manslaughter case on Friday.
“There are too many people who have supported me to thank just now,” Baldwin said on Instagram on Saturday morning. “To all of you, you will never know how much I appreciate your kindness toward my family.”
Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled, after a dramatic hearing about the prosecution’s failure to turn over evidence to the defense.
But attorney Gloria Allred vowed to keep fighting Baldwin in civil court in New Mexico, saying the judge’s decision “is in no way, shape, or form an exoneration of him.”
Allred represents Hutchins’ parents, Olga Solovey and Anatolii Androsovych, and her sister, Svetlana Zemko, all of whom live in Ukraine.

Alec Baldwin is either a man who recklessly violated the “cardinal rule” of gun safety or a “shiny object” for a couple of New Mexico prosecutors who don’t have a case. Those are the arguments special prosecutor Erlinda Ocampo Johnson and Baldwin’s defense attorney Alex Spiro made Wednesday morning as Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter trial got underway in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
With his brother Stephen and wife, Hilaria, seated in the courtroom behind him, Baldwin watched as Johnson told the jury that the 30 Rock star should be held criminally liable in the death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Baldwin “played make believe with a real gun and violated the cardinal rule of firearm safety” Johnson said, laying out how the state plans to use video, ballistics evidence and expert testimony in its case against the actor. “He pointed the gun at another human being, cocked the hammer...

Santa Fe, N.M. — A prosecutor told jurors Wednesday that Alec Baldwin violated the cardinal rules of gun safety while playing “make believe” on the set of “Rust,” resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Erlinda Ocampo Johnson, one of two special prosecutors on the case, argued in her opening statement that Baldwin repeatedly violated film industry gun protocols in the days leading up to the fatal shooting. She also faulted him for failing to check his gun with armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who had mistakenly loaded it with a live bullet.
“The defendant didn’t do a gun safety check with that inexperienced armorer,” Johnson said. “He pointed the gun at another human being, cocked the hammer and pulled the trigger in reckless disregard for Ms. Hutchins’ safety.”

Armie Hammer is speaking out about the allegations of cannibalism, sexual misconduct and an accusation of rape that upended his career three years ago, saying this weekend that he is “grateful” for the experience.
Hammer, 37, was experiencing a career resurgence after he received high praise for roles in 2017’s Call Me by Your Name and Sorry to Bother You the next year, after nearly a decade of struggling to break through following his standout turn as the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network. Then in January 2021, an anonymous Instagram account published what were claimed to be text messages Hammer had sent to various women that included dark sexual fantasies and a reference to cannibalism.
That same month, his ex Courtney Vucekovich detailed to Page Six the emotional abuse she said she experienced in the relationship; Vucekovich said this led her to enter the hospital with Ptsd. The cannibal chatter around...

Manhattan prosecutors revealed in court Wednesday that they are evaluating new sexual misconduct claims against Harvey Weinstein as they prepare for his upcoming retrial on rape and sexual assault charges.
Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg told the judge that additional people have recently come forward with assault allegations against the disgraced movie mogul. Prosecutors are assessing which claims may fall within the statute of limitations.
“Some potential survivors that were not ready to step forward during Weinstein’s first New York trial may now be willing to testify,” Blumberg stated. When asked if a new indictment was possible, she responded, “Yes, your honor.”
Blumberg said the prosecution would update the court on the case’s direction by late June. The next hearing was scheduled for July 9, with Weinstein’s retrial tentatively set for after Labor Day.

More accusers may come forward to testify in Harvey Weinstein’s New York retrial this fall, prosecutors said in court. On Wednesday, the former movie producer appeared in a Manhattan courtroom a month after the New York Court of Appeals overturned his 2020 rape conviction.

Weinstein arrived in the courtroom in a wheelchair and sported a shaved head. He gave a thumbs up to his colleagues as two security officers wheeled him in.

Prosecutors in the Harvey Weinstein case say they may issue a new indictment against the former mogul, as there may be more women who come out against him.
“Some people who were not ready to speak out in 2020 now appear ready to do so in 2024,” Assistant D.A. Nicole Blumberg said in New York criminal court Wednesday. A July 9 hearing was set for purposes of discovery and compliance.
Blumberg disclosed this as she mentioned a letter filed with Judge Curtis Farber asking the judge to direct Weinstein’s defense counsel to refrain from making public statements about witnesses, for fear of scaring off the additional women who may now bring claims. The attorney, Arthur Aidala, had held a press conference outside of the courtroom May 1, after the first hearing in the case, in which he called into question statements made by Miriam Haley, who brought claims against Weinstein in the first trial.

Update: Stormy Daniels faced a contentious cross examination today over her claim that she had sex with Donald Trump in 2006 and that, five years later, a stranger threatened her in a Las Vegas parking lot to not talk about the sexual encounter publicly.
Susan Necheles, a lawyer for Trump, questioned Daniels’ motivations and tried to cast doubt on her story. She also highlighted the fact that Daniels owes more than $500,000 in legal fees from a failed defamation lawsuit against Trump.
Necheles argued that as far back as 2011, Daniels was alternately confirming or denying sex with Trump depending on whether she was being paid for her story.

Harvey Weinstein will be retried in New York on rape and sexual offence charges after his 23-year conviction was overturned on appeal, Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said on Wednesday.
The disgraced 72-year old former Hollywood titan appeared in court in a wheelchair wearing a blue suit and according to reports did not speak in a brief hearing. Reports said Attorney Gloria Allred and Weinstein accuser Jessica Mann attended the hearing.
Prosecutors said there was nothing consensual about Weinstein’s conduct in reference to prior charges that led to the original conviction in February 2020, and told Judge Curtis Farber they would be proceeding.

Harvey Weinstein is looking at a new trial in New York after Labor Day.
The former Hollywood mogul appeared in court in New York Wednesday for the first time since his 2020 rape conviction was overturned. Judge Curtis Farber set a May 29 hearing for discovery and for prosecutors to file a certificate of compliance. If the certificate is filed by that date, the judge anticipated that a trial will begin sometime after Labor Day.
Weinstein was wheeled into the courtroom in a wheelchair, wearing a blue suit with an American flag pin, after having been hospitalized in the days leading up to the hearing. He waved to the first row of attorneys as he was wheeled in and shook their hands as he was wheeled out. He appeared with his attorney Arthur Aidala, in front of a full audience, including Jessica Mann, who testified in the first New York trial.

Harvey Weinstein appeared in a Manhattan courtroom Wednesday, less than a week after the New York Court of Appeals overturned his 2020 rape conviction. It’s the first time the former movie producer has been seen in public since he was convicted of rape in a Los Angeles court and sentenced to 16 years in prison in February 2023.

Lawyer Gloria Allred and Weinstein accuser Jessica Mann were present in the room. Prosecutor Nicole Blumberg from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said they will seek a retrial in the fall.

On April 25, the day that Harvey Weinstein’s New York sexual assault conviction was overturned, those who had been most vocal in the months following the former mogul’s implosion in 2017 were conspicuously silent. The X account of Time’s Up, the organization that raised $26 million in the wake of the Weinstein accusations, appeared to be a relic frozen in time. Its last post, from January 2022, was a retweet of a Movement for Black Lives missive about Martin Luther King Jr. Likewise, actresses who had embraced Time’s Up’s mission offered no commentary. Jessica Chastain was tweeting about her skin care routine, while Reese Witherspoon was gushing about a Tennessee Titans draft pick. It was as though Hollywood had already moved on from the industrywide reckoning that Weinstein’s downfall sparked.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the Rust armorer who loaded the live round into the gun Alec Baldwin was holding when it discharged and killed the film’s cinematographer, will serve 18 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter.
The decision from Santa Fe judge Mary Sommer, delivered on Monday, comes after a jury found Gutierrez-Reed guilty, making her the first crewmember to be convicted for her role in the accidental shooting death of Halyna Hutchins.
Involuntary manslaughter charges in New Mexico carry a maximum sentence of 18 months and a fine of up to $5,000. Prosecutors sought the upper limit of the term. Gutierrez-Reed has been at the Santa Fe Adult Detention Facility since March, when she was determined to be liable of involuntary manslaughter but not evidence tampering charges. Last month, Sommer declined to allow a new trial and denied a motion for the armorer to be released while she appeals her conviction.

Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was sentenced just now to 18 months behind bars over the October 2021 fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the Santa Fe set of the indie Western starring Alec Baldwin.
“You alone turned a safe weapon into a lethal weapon,” said Judge Mary Marlow Sommer in her sentencing Monday after rejecting defense pleas for probation and counseling. “But for you, Ms. Hutchins would be alive, a husband would have his partner and a little boy would have his mother.”
The sentence in a state prison was the maximum that Gutierrez-Reed could receive under New Mexico law.
Exclaiming that her “heart aches” for what happened on Rust and the death of Hutchins, Gutierrez-Reed earlier called herself “young and naive,” chastised the media for portraying her as a “complete monster” and told the court how she had been overworked and under-resourced on the film.
“I beg you please don’t give me more time,...

In the wake of O.J. Simpson’s recent death at the age of 76, Caitlyn Jenner, 74, former Olympic gold medalist known for her role on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, took to social media to express her unreserved thoughts on the matter.
In a brief social media post with the hashtag #OJSimpson, Jenner made her sentiments clear: “Good riddance.”
The connection between Jenner and Simpson lies in their association through Jenner’s ex-wife, Kris Jenner, who was previously married to Robert Kardashian. Kardashian, a close friend of Simpson’s, notably served as one of the NFL star’s defense attorneys in his highly publicized murder trial in 1994.
Simpson’s family stated his X on his behalf, “On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.”
They wrote, “During this time of transition, his family asks that you please...

The family of the late Ronald Goldman, whom O.J. Simpson was accused of murdering along with ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson outside of her Brentwood home, is calling the death of the man they believe killed Ron, “a mixed bag of complicated emotions.”
Simpson died Wednesday after a battle with cancer, his family said.
And the death of the man they call “Ron’s killer,” Ron’s sister, Kim, and father, Fred, say in a statement posted to social media, means “the hope for true accountability has ended.”
But they insist they will carry on with their efforts to seek justice for victims and survivors.
“We will continue to advocate for the rights of all victims and survivors, ensuring our voices are heard both within and beyond the courtroom,” the statement reads. “And despite [Simpson’s] death, the mission continues; there’s always more to be done. Thank you for keeping our family,...
