The recently released trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (which you can watch in the embed above) showed that there’s going to be a lot of water-based action in this new sequel, and now a behind-the-scenes video has arrived online to show us a moment of star Tom Cruise preparing to perform some of those underwater stunts. Cruise himself also shared an image of him working on the movie underwater with the caption, “The training and preparation we put into this film is a culmination of all before it. From the depths, to the skies, I can’t wait to share more with you.” The video and the image can be seen below.

Almost six years have gone by since Tom Cruise announced that Paramount Pictures had given the greenlight to two more Mission: Impossible movies, with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) writer/director Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm. At one point, we thought these movies were going to carry the titles Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two… but Paramount has backtracked from that decision. After Dead Reckoning Part One underwhelmed at the box office when it was released last year, the studio has dropped Part One from the subtitle and has let it be known that the next film, which is still in production, will have a different title. A decision they really should have made before releasing the first half of the story. At least we’re still getting the second half of the story, with the...

It is time to rejoice, as Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is back to save every living human from doom in "Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning," which will continue the convoluted saga of "Dead Reckoning." The newly released trailer for "The Final Reckoning" is as thrilling and exciting as you would expect, with a lot of characters from previous installments — including Rolf Saxon's William Donloe and Angela Bassett's Erika Sloane — coming back with covert intentions. And you know what else is back? The Rabbit's Foot, the dangerous biological hazard from "Mission: Impossible III," makes an appearance in the "Final Reckoning" trailer, leaving us to mull over its fate since we last saw it in Ethan's hands and what its return could mean for the conclusion to the "Mission: Impossible" films.

Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt for what could be the last time. On Monday, Paramount revealed the official title for “Mission: Impossible 8,” which is slated for theaters in May. The title, “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning,” along with the general “it has all come down to this” vibe of the trailer, may lead you to believe this will be the final “M:i” film, but that’s not necessarily the case. Cruise doesn’t seem to be ready to hang up his running shoes yet.
While the fate of the franchise is a little bit up in the air, there’s no question about whether or not 62-year-old Cruise has still got it. In the teaser trailer that reveals the title, Cruise is seen sprinting through multiple locations, in his underwear grappling with a knife-wielding assassin, and hanging off the wing of a single engine plane. When Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One opened last year, it was widely deemed a financial disappointment, even after earning $570.6 million worldwide.
Not helping matters, of course, was the fact its budget ballooned to a reported $291 million, a staggering sum which is thought to have done irreparable damage to Tom Cruise's relationship with Paramount Pictures.
The studio dropped the "Dead Reckoning Part Two" subtitle from the sequel a while ago - likely to distance Mission: Impossible 8 from its predecessor - and we now know that it's instead going to be called Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning.

Mission: Impossible 8 has been given the official title Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – and there’s a trailer to prove it.
We’ve been following the production story of Mission: Impossible 8 for a while now here at Film Stories. The film’s price tag has grown considerably due to the small matters of a global pandemic and extensive Hollywood strikes, but we have a feeling there’s a good reason for Paramount splurging on the latest sequel.

It’s all very dramatic, and eagle-eyed fans will notice that the trailer shows a number of previous Mission: Impossible locations, only adding to the inescapable feeling of finality. Should we get our hankies ready?...

Tom Cruise’s famous spy series will come to a dramatic end with “Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning,” which will be released in theaters on May 23, 2025. The eighth movie in the long-running action series looks like it will be an explosive conclusion.
The first trailer and image for the movie were shared by Cruise on social media, hinting at a dangerous AI program called “The Entity” that needs to be stopped. The actor showed how emotional the movie was by writing in the caption, “Every choice has led to this.”
Following on from 2023’s “Dead Reckoning,” the new movie will continue with Ethan Hunt racing against time to keep The Entity from getting into the wrong hands. Cruise will be joined by newbie Hannah Waddingham and returning cast members Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames.
Christopher McQuarrie, who has directed the last three movies in the series, will also direct this last one.

Good things come to those who wait, and we’ve been waiting a long, long time for “Mission: Impossible 8” to get a title. Well, we got that and more on Monday. (Ethan Hunt is an Army alum — Happy Veterans Day to all!) If you need a catch up on the previous films, here’s IndieWire’s ranking of the “Mission: Impossible” movies.
In the new film’s teaser trailer, Hunt (Tom Cruise) can be seen sprinting through a variety of landscapes and hardscapes — you simply do not mess with the Cruise formula. At one point, Hunt is running after an airplane that he presumably catches. At another he’s knife-fighting in his underwear; if you weren’t already reminded, from him rappelling into the Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony, Tom Cruise is in his 60s.

Following pandemic and strike delays along with a title change, the eighth, seemingly concluding outing for Ethan Hunt has officially been unveiled as Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and the first trailer has arrived today ahead of a May 23, 2025 release.
Featuring the return of Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, and Shea Whigham, the film also features franchise newcomers Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddingham, Katy O’Brian, and more.
The film also marks quite a turning point for Cruise, who will now return to more dramatic filmmaking by leading the next film from Alejandro G. Iñárritu, which begins production this month. He won’t be forever departing the action realm,...

Ethan Hunt is back ... for the final time? The trailer for the next "Mission: Impossible" film is here, and it brings with it a new title that raises an eyebrow or two. The flick is called "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning," and the word "final" in there seems to imply this will be the last adventure for the Impossible Mission Force. At one point, this movie was going to be called "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two," as the previous entry was "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One." But "Dead Reckoning Part One" underperformed at the box office, and studio Paramount quickly dropped the "Part One" from the title by the time the film hit digital and Blu-ray.
The title may be different, but "The Final Reckoning" will still be a continuation of the previous film, as "Dead Reckoning" ended on a cliffhanger with villain Gabriel (Esai Morales) getting away.

The first “Mission: Impossible 8” trailer is here, and it looks like we could be reaching the end of the road for Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. The film, which is now titled “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” plays on the nostalgia for the franchise, including footage from the Brian De Palma-directed 1996 “Mission: Impossible” movie that started it all.
Christopher McQuarrie, who has directed every “Mission” movie since “Rogue Nation,” is back in the director’s chair this time around for a sequel that went through a bit of an evolution. Initially, “Mission: Impossible 7” and “Mission: Impossible 8” were shot back-to-back and titled “Dead Reckoning – Part One” and “Dead Reckoning – Part Two.” But after the disappointing box office performance of the seventh film, it was retitled for home release to just “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and “M:i 8” got a new title. Thus, “The Final Reckoning” was born.

Welcome to the deep dive on Crescent City, the 2024 crime thriller that brought together some heavyweight acting talent without delivering the dramatic goods. Directed by Rj Collins from a script by Rich Ronat, this serial killer yarn looked to keep viewers guessing about the killer’s identity as murders mounted in a small Southern community.
But with a premise this promising, did the finished film live up to its potential? Join me as we take a closer look at all aspects of this mystery’s muddled telling.
We’re talking a star-studded cast here—Alec Baldwin, Terrence Howard, Esai Morales, even Aussie actress Nicky Whelan signed on. Their talents alone had many anticipating intrigue. The basic setup also showed promise—a ruthless murderer terrorizing a town, sowing chaos and paranoia as cops race to stop the bloodshed.
All the ingredients seemed there for an atmospheric, page-turning thriller. But as the facts will show,...

Remember when we thought we were going to get a Deathstroke film set in the DC Extended Universe? Good times.
Well, even though that didn't happen, Slade Wilson could be coming to James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe, according to The Hollywood Reporter, as the character is set to co-headline his own DC movie, along with none other than fellow Batman villain Bane. And fans of the anti-hero couldn’t be happier.
We've waited years to see Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke, properly represented in a solo film. Back when the live-action universe was still the Dceu, fans thought they’d finally get a taste when Joe Manganiello suited up as Deathstroke in the post-credit scene of Justice League. You know, the one where the movie was "average at best," and we all left feeling like we deserved more. Manganiello looked like he was plucked right from the pages of DC comics,...

Villains really are the new superheroes.
DC Studios has tapped screenwriter Matthew Orton (“Captain America: Brave New World”) to write a feature film that will involve Batman villains Bane and Deathstroke, Variety has confirmed. The project is still in its infancy: There are no stars or director attached, and DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran have been clear that they will not greenlight a project until they are satisfied with a complete screenplay.
The movie follows a growing trend in the superhero space of projects focusing as much on the villains as on the heroes, from the ongoing HBO series “The Penguin” and Disney+ series “Agatha All Along” to Warner Bros. upcoming sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux” and Sony’s upcoming Marvel adaptations “Venom: The Last Dance” and “Kraven the Hunter.”

DC loves spotlighting its villains, and THR reports that another villain-centric project is in the works. The outlet has heard that DC Studios is developing a movie that will unite Bane and Deathstroke. Matthew Orton, who worked on Captain America: Brave New World, has penned the script but no director is attached to the project.
DC has always excelled at highlighting villains, with the recently released Penguin series starring Colin Farrell as an example. We’ve also got Joker: Folie à Deux coming next week. I’ll confess that I’m not a big comic-book guy, so Deathstroke and Bane seem like a random pairing, but I’m sure the more comic-literate among you will be able to set me right. Maybe they’re good buds.

With a big-budget Joker movie just weeks away and a Penguin HBO series freshly unveiled, a few other DC villains are being targeted for the spotlight.

Tom Cruise is widely celebrated for leveling up his death-defying stunts with each Mission Impossible installment. The film series is renowned for featuring the most significant action sequences in pop culture, all thanks to Cruise’s fearlessness. According to director John Woo, all of it started when the Vanilla Sky actor begged him to perform a dangerous stunt in Mission Impossible 2.

New Orleans natives may be slightly disappointed to find that a movie titled “Crescent City” — long a popular nickname for the storied Louisiana metropolis — actually is set in and around Little Rock, Ark. On the other hand, they might be happy to find that their hometown is not represented at all in this overplotted and instantly disposable drama, a bland gumbo of serial killer tropes, internal affairs investigation, Satanic sex addicts and buddy-cop shoot-’em-up stuff. The movie opens day-and-date Aug. 16 in limited theatrical runs as well as on digital platforms, but it’s really best suited for home screen perusing — just so viewers can intermittently hit pause and ask one another, “Wait, what the hell was that all about?”

“Battlestar Galactica” will not chronicle its next chapter on Peacock. A planned reboot for the classic sci-fi hit is no longer in development at the streamer, an insider close to the decision-making told TheWrap.
The project had been in development since 2019, helmed by Sam Esmail (“Mr. Robot”). It was never officially picked up to series at Peacock, and though no plot details were revealed, the show was set to be set in the same timeline as the popular 2003 series.
The news comes months after “The Sinner” EP Derek Simonds was tapped to be writer, executive producer and showrunner. The reboot will now be shopped around to other outlets by its production company, UCP, with whom Esmail has an overall deal. The project was in development with UCP, Esmail Corp and Chad Hamilton.
“Battlestar Galactica” was first introduced in the ’70s as a single-season show starring Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict and Lorne Greene.
