In 2017 he was awarded the Shostakovich Prize for his Contribution to the Development of World Musical Culture.

In 1988 he was made an Honorary Citizen of Baltimore, MD (USA).

Artemiev's music for films was recorded on the album "Territory of Love" (1998).

His melody, the main music theme from At Home Among Strangers, a Stranger Among His Own (1974), arranged by Igor Matvienko was played at the closing ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics. At the closing ceremony, his music from Stalker (1979) was also used.
