Exclusive: Jessica Biel is in talks to star alongside John Cena in Matchbox a new, live-action feature film from Apple Original Films, Skydance and Mattel Films that will be directed by Sam Hargrave. The new film is based on a screenplay by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper.

The film will be inspired by Mattel’s iconic real-world die-cast toy vehicle line of the same name. The legendary Matchbox brand was invented in 1953 by automotive enthusiast Jack Odell to solve a challenge for his daughter, who was allowed to take a toy to school only if it was small enough to fit in a matchbox. When his daughter’s school friends too began clamouring for a “matchbox car,” an iconic brand was born. The high standards of authenticity for Matchbox die-cast cars have driven the brand for over 70 years and generations of fans. On Monday, Nov. 18, Apple TV+ announced a new 10-episode series adaptation of “Cape Fear,” executive produced by and starring Javier Bardem as Max Cady, a killer who gets out of prison and haunts the lives of married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden. Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese are also onboard as executive producers.

The series is based on the 1957 novel “The Executioners,” which was previously adapted into the 1962 “Cape Fear” starring Robert Mitchum as Max Cady and Gregory Peck as Sam Bowden. That film was remade in 1991 by Scorsese, whose version starred Robert De Niro in an Oscar-nominated performance as Cady. Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange played the Bowdens, while Juliette Lewis earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nom for her role as the Bowdens’ teenage daughter Danielle.

On June 18, police in the Hamptons’ village of Sag Harbor arrested Timberlake and charged him with impaired driving. He later pleaded guilty to driving while ability impaired (Dwai), a lesser charge than driving while intoxicated (Dwi). In the months since his arrest, Biel has reportedly established a list of rules for him to follow.

“She has a list of rules,” a source told Life & Style Magazine, adding, “The incident put a huge strain on the marriage.”

Exclusive: Joe Hipps has stepped down as President of TV at Fifth Season after more than seven years at the indie studio. He will continue to work as a producer developing and overseeing several projects while consulting with the Fifth Season leadership during the transition as a search for a new President of Television gets under way.

“It has been an awesome seven year run and we are excited to support Joe as he makes the transition to a producer,” Fifth Season’s Co-CEO’s Chris Rice and Graham Taylor said.

Hipps joined Fifth Season’s predecessor Endeavor Content in 2017 as EVP, Television. He was promoted to President, TV Development and Production, in 2022. Hipps’ tenure included steering the company’s TV creative team through a pandemic and a dual Hollywood strikes.

Wesley Snipes turned out to be the biggest surprise cameo in Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine. Fans didn’t expect to see the vampire-hunter Blade in the film after his alleged falling out with Reynolds after Blade: Trinity. With his role, Snipes now has set the record for the longest career as a live-action Marvel character.
