- Robert Israel was born on April 30, 1963 in Los Angeles, California, USA. He is a composer and producer, known for The General (1926), Sherlock Jr. (1924) and The Navigator (1924).
- In September 2006, Stockholm University in Sweden awarded Robert Israel an Honorary Doctorate with full professorial rites for his contributions to early cinema, and music composition. He is one of the youngest recipients of this honor from this university.
- Robert Israel's music scores for the two Abel Gance features La Roue (1923), and J'Accuse (1919), were composed concurrently in nine different countries, and required 11 months to complete. This was in addition to a very demanding performing schedule, as well as teaching courses at Stockholm University.
