Who says 1994 was a classic year for cinema? Netflix begins today to make that argument, curating a release of 17 films that turned 30 this year. The streamer has its list below. I have mine, and with the exception of the seminal Farrelly Brothers-directed Dumb & Dumber with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, and Luc Besson’s Leon: The Professional, the film that stars Jean Reno and a sinister Gary Oldman and introduced the world to the outsized talent Natalie Portman, and maybe Ron Howard’s The Paper, there’s a lot missing. How about Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, The Lion King, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Clear and Present Danger, Sicario, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Interview With the Vampire, Speed, Ed Wood, and the other two films in a starmaking year for Jim Carrey, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask. Speed, Once Were Warriors, and Ang Lee...

One of the weirdest things about getting older are those moments when you look around and suddenly realize everybody else looks ancient too; your family, friends, and those celebrities and movie stars you grew up watching and assumed would stay young forever.
My brain still struggles to compute the fact that Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp are both almost 60. Pitt still looks great; I have no data to support this, but I'm sure millions of middle-aged men were inspired to renew their gym membership after he took his shirt off in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." On the flip side, Depp now looks like a guy who lives on a canal boat with several cats.
Belated remakes and reboots can show their age, too. "Trainspotting" was the acerbic voice of a restless generation, while the cringey retread of the "Choose Life" speech in the sequel was just like Grandpa Simpson yelling at clouds.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. That may be the overriding theme of Clerks III, the third, and perhaps final, entry in writer-director Kevin Smith’s Quick Stop convenience story trilogy that has been the anchor for nearly his entire canon of films.
While certain life-shaking events have taken place in the 16 years since Smith made Clerks II—events which we won’t reveal here—the new movie gets the most mileage out of familiar situations and characters in the orbit of the Quick Stop, the fictional New Jersey store based on Smith’s own early work history at a convenience store before he became a filmmaker.
Yet while the film retains much of the often coarse, crude humor of many of Smith’s earlier View Askewniverse movies, and while his filmmaking style still usually hinges on long, static shots of people just standing around and talking,...

Plot: After a near fatal heart attack, Randal convinces his convenient shop partner Dante to help him make a movie about his life working at the Quick Stop.
Review: Back in 1994, Kevin Smith’s indie classic, Clerks, became the unsung hero of those working behind the counter and in customer service. It also inspired many young filmmakers to make movies of their own. I became an instant fan of the hockey jersey-wearing Smith, as well as his on-screen persona of “Silent Bob.” And yes, I’ve appreciated much of what he brought to his later features. Still I was weary about Clerks III. Dante, Randal, Jay, and his wordless sidekick, Bob. How do you continue with the dick and fart jokes when all the original actors are well into middle age? It certainly doesn’t hurt to borrow from real-life adulthood fears.

Twenty-eight years after Kevin Smith made his film debut with the foul-mouthed low-budget comedy "Clerks" and 16 years after the sweet and silly sequel, "Clerks II," the director returns to the Quick Stop to bring the story full circle in "Clerks III." Clerks Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) and Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) own the convenience store that brought them together, but they aren't sure if they've achieved their dreams or just fallen into their same old routines. Then Randal has a heart attack and realizes life is too short to waste, so he wants to make a movie.
This is Smith at his most deeply personal: Randal's heart attack is clearly based on Smith's own, and the creation of his film at the Quick Stop is a metacommentary on the making of the first "Clerks." Fans in search of the mile-a-minute crass comedy of some of his earlier work, including the...

This script wasn’t even supposed to be here today! Or any day, really. At the premiere of Clerks III, writer, director and Southwest Airlines extra baggage Kevin Smith offered some details about how the movie almost turned out.
In what Kevin Smith called “a movie about dealing with grief”, the original Clerks III script opened during Hurricane Sandy, which pummeled Smith’s home state of New Jersey (and others) in 2012.
“Dante and Randal were locked in a jail because the original version of Clerks III was the opening of Jay and Silent Bob Reboot where the cops come in and bust Jay and Silent Bob.”
Once the gang is released from prison for safety reasons, they find their beloved Quick Stop has been destroyed. To cope, Randal goes to the movies but the picture he wants to see hasn’t been released yet, prompting him to “[build] a lean-to version of Quick Stop,...

Kevin Smith says he started thinking about another Clerks film after finishing the 2006 sequel. While he ultimately accomplished the task — Clerks III hits theaters courtesy of Lionsgate in partnership with Fathom Events on Sept. 13-18 — the beloved filmmaker is relieved that it’s not based on his original script.
“It opened on the evening of Hurricane Sandy,” Smith detailed to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of Wednesday night’s premiere at Tcl Chinese 6 Theaters in Hollywood. “Dante and Randal were locked in a jail because the original version of Clerks III was the opening of Jay and Silent Bob Reboot where the cops come in and bust Jay and Silent Bob. In addition to reuniting him with several of the “Clerks” actors whose careers he helped launch back in 1994, “Clerks III” gave Kevin Smith another chance to direct his old friend Ben Affleck in a cameo role — and pay tribute to their long friendship with a very inside joke.
The two previously worked together on several early-career films, including “Mallrats,” “Chasing Amy,” “Dogma” and “Jersey Girl,” and as Smith told Variety at the new film’s Hollywood premiere at the Chinese 6, Affleck was extremely eager to appear in a cameo as one of several famous faces — including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze, Jr., Danny Trejo and Melissa Benoist — auditioning for a role in the movie-within-a-movie being made by the Quick Stop clerks.
“He was like, ‘I’m there. It’ll be great.’ It was so blissful. He came in for an hour,” said Smith, who, following several years of estrangement, rekindled...

Nearly 30 years after its cinematic debut, I assure you, the Quick Stop is open once again thanks to "Clerks III." After trying to manifest this project in a number of different ways since the release of the second film in 2006, fan-favorite filmmaker Kevin Smith is finally presenting the third chapter in Dante Hicks and Randal Graves' story in a theater near you. And interestingly enough, this movie brings the New Jersey native all the way back to his first chapter as the characters that kickstarted his career back in the early '90s are now making their own movie about working in a convenience store.

"Everything in the script is something either me, or someone I know, said." The boys are back... again! For a third time! Lionsgate has revealed the first official trailer for Kevin Smith's Clerks III, another sequel to his iconic B&w Clerks indie film that premiered at Sundance in 1994. Kevin Smith writes and directs, again, and brings back the classic cast for one more adventure: Brian O'Halloran as Dante Hicks and Jeff Anderson as Randal Graves, the Quick Stop store clerks, return with a cast including Marilyn Ghigliotti, Rosario Dawson, and Trevor Fehrman. Plus of course Jason Mewes as Jay & Kevin Smith as Silent Bob. Another meta story from Ks: after surviving a heart attack, Randal decides to make a movie with Dante about their lives at the Quick Stop convenience store. Some of you may have forgotten that Clerks II was actually pretty good, and this looks like it will be harmless fun.

The original Clerks was, arguably, geek culture’s first major shot across the mainstream bow upon its Oct. 1994 release. With the film having rode Cannes Film Festival buzz from earlier that year, the print-media-proliferated story of a regular dude from New Jersey selling his precious comic book collection to help fund his $27,575 indie passion project stoked a cultural curiosity that money couldn’t buy. Of course, said curiosity yielded the breakthrough of a lifetime for the dude in question, Kevin Smith. Now, some 27 years and several shared-universe films later, the filmmaker and recent Masters of the Universe visionary reveals that Clerks III will provide the ultimate onscreen homage to his watershed original: A Jay & Silent Bob dance number.

Originally slated for release April of 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic, director Brad Leo Lyon’s (Little Creeps/Monsters on Main Street) latest film Thursday the 12th – a horror comedy in the realm of Evil Dead meets Mallrats with a touch of Tucker and Dale Versus Evil – is finally getting ready for a new theatrical roadshow, touring the country doing advanced theatrical screenings of the film followed by a Q & A in cities across the US, starting in June.
Starring such familiar faces as Todd Bridges (Different Strokes), Jena Sims (Kill the Messenger), Brian Sutherland (Z Nation), and Marilyn Ghigliotti (Clerks), Thursday the 12th follows two failed film school graduates closing in on their 30’s, the fearful Seth Franco and the unreliable James Rogen, who are stuck working the same jobs they had in high school. Updated: With Wednesday, Thursday and Friday events. Captain Marvel, The Guardians of the Galaxy and whoever is alive from The Avengers won’t be showing up in San Diego, but there will be plenty of other big screen rivals to keep the temperature at a scorching level in Hall H.
At this point in time, many film screenings are oddly missing from the lineup, except for kiddie pic Teen Titans Go! To the Movies! on Friday. Perhaps there will be more as they’re often announced at the last minute or suddenly during the confab (Read Lionsgate’s Blair Witch). Comic-Con has traditionally been a successful launch pad for such fan faves as Sausage Party, Star Trek Beyond, The Visit, Annabelle: Creation and Don’t Breathe. Don’t worry, on the TV side there’s the AMC premiere of Better Call Saul season 4.

How a 1993 indie hit from Kevin Smith gave birth to an unlikely franchise...
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
In 1993, Kevin Smith made a movie. Clerks was shot in black and white over the course of three weeks, at night, in the convenience store where Smith worked during the day, on a shoestring budget of $27,575. Smith funded the film himself by dipping into his savings, selling all his comics and maxing out several credit cards.
Even though it became an indie phenomenon when it was picked up by Miramax (who gave it a new soundtrack using a post-production budget that was ten times the cost of principal photography) at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival, it doesn't have 'franchise starter' written all over it.
Long considered a Gen X touchstone, Clerks is a funny and filthy slice of life movie, which equates a working day for Dante...

“Clerks” has inspired legions of loyal fans in its 22 years of existence, few of them more devoted than Christopher Downie. The 31-year-old filmmaker is set to make his debut feature with “Shooting Clerks,” a film about — you guessed it — the making of Kevin Smith’s debut feature. Featuring several original cast members and the same grainy, black-and-white look, the docu-fiction hybrid is set to make its premiere next month. Watch its first trailer below.

Taking a vaguely self-reflexive approach that blends aspects of Smith’s filmography with the more factual behind-the-scenes elements, Downie’s movie counts “Clerks” principals Brian O’Halloran, Marilyn Ghigliotti and Smith himself among its cast. This has not been a good year for Los Angelino/extraterrestrial relations. First there was Battle: Los Angeles. Then The Asylum’s Battle of Los Angeles. Now there’s Alien Armageddon, which, not surprisingly, was originally titled Battleground Los Angeles.
On the same day that Cowboys & Aliens limps onto store shelves, another alien invasion movie featuring a cowboy battling aliens (judging by the cover art) will be touching down on DVD and Blu-ray via Phase 4 Films.
Starring Rochelle Vallese, Katharine MeEwan, Claudia Wells, Don Scribner, Marilyn Ghigliotti and DeeDee Bigelow, with a cameo by Virginia Hey, filmmaker Neil Johnson’s Alien Armageddon is an impressive looking low budget alien invasion effort about humanity’s last stand in the last remaining city on Earth – Los Angeles.
Have a look at the trailer. Seriously, have a look at it. Really damn impressive for low budget sci-fi movie.

As if Battle: Los Angeles and Battle of Los Angeles (the obligatory Asylum mockbuster) weren’t enough for the poor citizens of Los Angeles, now comes an Alien Armageddon… Directed by Neil Johnson, the film stars Katherine McEwan, Don Scribner, Rochelle Vallese, Benjamin J. Cain Jr, Claudia Wells (of Back to the Future fame), Julia Parker, Will Tulin, Marilyn Ghigliotti (Clerks), Eric Nyenhuis, DeeDee Bigelow and a cameo by Virginia Hey (Road Warrior, Farscape).
When the world is invaded by an ancient race of aliens, the city of Los Angeles is fortified as an alien stronghold. The only way to fight is from within.
And hey, what’s not to like about a film that features aliens, monsters, gorgeous women, strong men, blood, guts, stuff blowing up and (of course) flesh-ball babies! Just check out the trailer and images we’ve been sent for the film:
Alien Armageddon will receive it’s premiere in,...

There is another alien invasion film set in Los Angeles, which is set for a theatrical release July 6th. The title is Alien Armageddon and the synopsis sounds strangely like Battle: Los Angeles and also The Asylum's knock-off Battle of Los Angeles. Skyline could also be lumped in with these films and this reviewer is starting to get the sense that certain Los Angeles filmmakers want the City of Angels to burn to the ground. With the financial setbacks for S.E.T.I. (Search for Extraterrestrial Life), director Neil Johnson will have to wait a little longer for Los Angeles to crumble and burn under alien attack. For now, sci-fi fans with similar interests to Johnson, can have their wish fulfillment somewhat satisfied by visiting the Crest Theatre in Westwood July 6th, to watch Alien Armageddon on the big screen!
The short synopsis for Alien Armageddon is here:

You know we're really starting to wonder ... what is it about Los Angeles that has every damned extraterrestrial so hot to conquer it lately? Below you'll find the first stills, artwork and even a music video(!) for Neil Johnson's latest film, Alien Armageddon, starring Rochelle Vallese, Katharine MeEwan, Claudia Wells, Don Scribner, Marilyn Ghigliotti and DeeDee Bigelow with a cameo by Virginia Hey.

Actors today, especially ones in huge tentpole movies, have to be incredibly careful about everything they say at all times. One inopportune slip of the tongue could snowball into a full on revelation when you were just idly chatting. The latest example of this is C. Thomas Howell, who we know will have a small role [1] in The Amazing Spider-Man directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Speaking on the Retro Radio Podcast, Howell said that "Sony wants us to be hush-hush right now" but then not only confirmed what we already assumed - that The Lizard is the movie's villain - but revealed a major crux of the movie and one of the action scenes. Oops. This is certainly spoiler filled so be forewarned. Read his quotes, and hear them for yourself, after the jump. Howell was on the Retro Radio Podcast [2], hosted by Marilyn Ghigliotti...

Chicago – Very few filmmakers provoke the same kind of passionate adoration as the sometimes-great Kevin Smith, a man who has such a following that he can sell out large theaters filled with people who merely want to ask him questions for hours. Smith is a charismatic, interesting, clever filmmaker and his best work reflect his gregarious personality. Three of his best are captured in “The Kevin Smith Collection,” including two films with all-new Blu-Ray material.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0
If you were designing the Kevin Smith set and could only pick three films, what would you choose? The man has directed eight full-length feature films and we can probably cut “Jersey Girl” from consideration from the beginning, leaving seven to choose from. Personally, I would go with three different periods of his work and choose “Clerks,” “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,” and “Zack and Miri Make a Porno,” but then that...
