Last year, we heard that Spyder Dobrofsky – who worked on the scripts for such flicks as The Housewives of the North Pole and One Christmas Wish, as well as Mom’s Day Away, and made his feature directorial debut with the mystery thriller Spiral – was making a holiday horror movie called Down Below. That movie made its way out into the world back in October (you can check it out on Amazon), and now it has been announced that Dobrofsky is following it up with a creature feature called The Weeping! Lindsey Shaw (Ned’s Declassified), Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect), Reggie Lee (Tropic Thunder), Chris Zylka (The Amazing Spider-Man), Shoshana Bush (On My Block), and Hutch Dano (Zombeavers) have signed on to star in the film, which heads into production next month.
Dobrofsky will be directing The Weeping from a screenplay he wrote. The synopsis: When a group of friends go camping...

Spyder Dobrofsky is probably not a name you would expect to see credited on Christmas-themed TV movies, but that’s exactly how Dobrofsky got started out, working on the scripts for such flicks as The Housewives of the North Pole and One Christmas Wish, as well as Mom’s Day Away. When he made his feature directorial debut, it was on a movie called Spiral, which was something you’d expect to see a Spyder credited with: a mystery thriller. Now Deadline has broken the news that Dobrofsky is working on a holiday horror movie called Down Below… and he has assembled a solid cast for the project. The legendary Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight) stars alongside Bai Ling (The Crow), Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect), and Doug Jones, who is best known for his creature (or heavily made up) performances in films like The Shape of Water, Hellboy, and Hocus Pocus.

Stars: Tony Todd, Billy Zane, Bruce Dern, Adrienne Barbeau, Ed Morrone, Crash Buist, Danielle Gross, Meg Foster, Courtney Gains, John Kassir, Mike Ferguson | Written and Directed by Justin Lee
Set in the 1980s, somewhere around Christmas, Hellblazers is yet another original offering from Tubi, at least in some territories. Writer/director Justin Lee isn’t exactly somebody I expect a good film from, but even he can’t go wrong with a cast that includes Tony Todd, Billy Zane, Bruce Dern, Adrienne Barbeau and a few other genre vets, can he?
Wheelchair-bound Nam vet Bill Unger (Dern) is out visiting his wife’s grave when he hears something in the woods. He rolls over to the edge of the trees just in time to see Joshua (Zane) and his followers toss someone in a flaming pit, and a demon climbs out. As he aptly puts it, “We’ve got a big problem”.

Let’s just take a second to go around the table and play “Oh hey’ that’s that person from that film that came out that year…” First up we have Elisa Donovan, remember her? She was Amber in Clueless, the movie and TV show… Then Kerri Green, you know Andy from The Goonies, the one that kissed Sean Astin by accident… Who remembers that one asshole from Cabin Fever, he was last one standing because he only drank beer (Joey Kern)… Oh snap is that the rookie/baddie from Paul Blart Mall Cop? Yup that’s Keir O’Donnell… Who remembers the Yellow Ranger from Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy, oh and also Cabin Fever, Cerina Vincent? You guessed it, she’s in this movie… I seem to have forgotten what my point was to this opening.

"She is never, ever allowed in my house again!" Dust Bowl Pictures has debuted a brand new official trailer for an indie drama titled Complacent, written & directed by filmmaker Steven R. Monroe (I Spit on Your Grave). Strangely this film is listed on IMDb as originally premiering in 2012, but I can't find any info as to where it premiered then, even though it's only just now getting a release (8 years later...?). It definitely looks like it was made years ago... Two sisters, Myah and Beth, struggle with their differences in life and in the older sister's mentally abusive marriage, until the lives of Beth and their friends are shaken to the core by a tragedy that they are all forced to face. Cerina Vincent (Cabin Fever) & Kerri Green (The Goonies) star as Myah & Beth, joined by Joey Kern, Keir O'Donnell, Elisa Donovan, Christopher Showerman, Michael Worth, and Adrienne Barbeau. This does not look good,...

The Millennium Centre towers over us with aged beauty, pillars stretching upwards to meet carved stone and the blue sky above. It’s almost as impressive and staggering an entrance as the doorway to Dracula’s isolated domain in a Hammer film. But this building is not sequestered to some faraway precipice, it’s instead comfortably nestled within the establishments on Winnipeg’s Main Street. But the locals and tourists strolling down the sidewalk would likely never guess that a satanic ritual of human sacrifice is about to take place in the basement. Looks can be deceiving, you know.
Fearing no sharp-toothed denizens of the dead within this structure, we ascend the short stairway and enter the bronze doors of the 104-year-old construction, taking one more moment to gaze up at the gorgeous gray façade. Ambling past a marble World War One memorial wall in the entryway, we walk into...

Encouraging a determined young female protagonist to fully embrace her growing dark side and inclinations is a unique perspective in any film, as the resolute cinematic hero is often believed to need to defend the goodness in their world. But the 2008 horror thriller, ‘The Haunting of Molly Hartley,’ intriguingly reversed the genre’s expectations of how lead characters are supposed to act, and what they stand for, as the title teen fully embraced being overtaken by the Devil by the end of the story. But director Steven R. Monroe’s new sequel to the supernatural film, titled ‘The Exorcism of Molly Hartley,’ showcases how the title character, who’s now a young [ Read More ]

High school is six years in the rearview mirror for Molly, but she continues to be plagued by possession in The Exorcism of Molly Hartley, available today on Digital HD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. We've been provided with an exclusive clip featuring an unsettling mental hospital session between Hartley (Sarah Lind) and Dr. Laurie Hawthorne (Gina Holden).
"Molly Hartley (Sarah Lind; Wolfcop) is all grown up, but the unholy demon inside her lives on in this all-new, Unrated sequel that takes terror to the next level! Six years after graduating high school — and discovering that a secret pact assigned her soul to the devil — Molly is suspected of murder and confined to a mental hospital, where she wreaks supernatural havoc on the staff and patients. Her only hope is an exorcism by a defrocked priest (Devon Sawa; Final Destination) looking to redeem himself and save Molly's life before her hideous "transformation" is complete.

Along with those distinctive fall treats comes a never-ending shipment of horror movies waiting to be reviewed, with Grave Halloween being my inaugural kickoff of what purists deem the official horror movie season. Coming to you from the producer of Embrace Of The Vampire (ugh) and the director of I Spit On Your Grave 2 (double ugh), this SyFy original (Ahhh) was picked up for reasons unknown by Anchor Bay, almost a full year after its silver screen premiere. If you find yourself wandering around the “Suicide Forest,” don’t say I didn’t warn you – and watch out for evil Geisha ghosts!

We live in a world in which pointless sequels are thrown at us like balls being hurled at an annoying clown in a dunking tank. Yes, that's a given, but sometimes even we have to wonder just what in the world goes through people's minds.
Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Fox Home Entertainment is moving on a sequel to the 2008 teen-friendly snoozer The Haunting of Molly Hartley. The new film, entitled, The Exorcism of Molly Hartley, will see I Spit on Your Grave's Steven R. Monroe taking on directing duties.
Haley Bennett played Molly in the first film. No word on if she’ll return.
Here's our hope... Steven R. Monroe. Please take this to the darkest, most ghastly and horrific place possible. We love you... love us back!
Apparently the sequel follows Molly Hartley, who, after a night of heavy partying, finds her friends butchered. While locked in a mental hospital for observation,...

We caught up recently with I Spit on Your Grave reboot series director Steven R. Monroe to garner his thoughts on the polarized critical response to the CineTel Films/Anchor Bay Entertainment release of his feature I Spit On Your Grave 2, as well as on the future of the franchise, and more. Monroe, whose extensive directorial credits include the genre features House of 9 (2005), It Waits (2005), and the upcoming Cerina Vincent-vehicle MoniKa, as well as the 2010 Sarah Butler-starring remake of Meir Zarchi’s controversial 1978 rape/revenge feature I Spit On Your Grave, proved refreshing in his honesty in regards to what drew him to directing the sequel, as well as his understanding of the polarized response to it, and his exasperation with a faction of the blogosphere, among other things. Having premiered at London’s FILM4 FrightFest this past August with a subsequent release to Blu-ray, DVD...

We weren't big fans of the 1978 version of I Spit On Your Grave, so the remake was a welcome surprise when it rammed a shotgun up our assets in 2010. It did alright for itself too, and more to the point, a friend of mine claims that it's the best movie ever made. He's not a close friend. A sequel was somewhat inevitable, and Steven R. Monroe returns to helm the second film in the series, but that's where the similarities end. None of the original characters return, which is hardly surprising really, most of them died a horrible death in part one. The star of the show is Katie (Jemma Dallender), a beautiful girl living alone in New York, trying to make a living in the cutthroat world of modelling. When Katie accepts an offer to have free photos taken for her portfolio, the experience turns into an unimaginable nightmare.

Can you tell our readers a bit about your previous work that led up to you taking on I Spit On Your Grave 2?
Years ago I wrote a script called Prodigal Son – it was set up at Beacon Pictures with Twisted Films producing. Ultimately, the deal fell through but that put me on the Saw radar. It was my work on that franchise that led to work on IS2.
How did you become involved on the sequel to I Spit On Your Grave? Was this a story that you pitched to the producers or you were hired specifically to work on an idea they had?

★☆☆☆☆ Following its world premiere appearance at this year's Film4 FrightFest, Steven R. Monroe's I Spit on Your Grave 2 (2013) comes to DVD and Blu-ray this week. This blood-spattered sequel to the 2010 remake stars British actress Jemma Dallender as Katie, an ambitious young model whose dream is to make it big in New York City. Sadly, Katie finds herself held back by a dated portfolio. Short on cash and desperate to update her image, she spots a poster offering a free photoshoot. Being a naive, small-town girl, she has no concept of exploitation or 'stranger-danger', and enthusiastically throws herself into her first modelling session.
Things quickly turn sour when photographer Ivan (Joe Absolom) asks Katie to take off her clothes. She promptly declines and leaves the Eastern European photographer and his brothers high and dry - but not for long. Katie wakes to find that Georgy (Yavor Baharov), one of the brothers,...

So it’s that time of year again. October. The trees are changing, the sky is darkening and Halloween is just around the corner. It seems only fitting then, that horror movies are released in large volume and horror fans around the world are wetting their gills with what is on offer.
A few years back we were treated to a remake of Day of the Woman or I Spit on Your Grave and it was a very good remake that while it wasn’t for everyone did a good job at updating the premise and adding some much needed gore to the mix. I was surprised, to be honest, to hear they were putting out a sequel though, but here we are.

After remaking I Spit On Your Grave in 2010, what made you interested in taking on a sequel with a new story and main character?
Steven R. Monroe: For me it was the fact that I had put a lot into the remake, emotionally, mentally, physically, and creatively and I was just not quite ready to walk away and have number two in someone else’s hands yet.
Was there anything that you couldn’t get in I Spit On Your Grave that you were able to put into the sequel?

The original I Spit On Your Grave (1978) can be described in a multitude of words, and while acknowledging the absolute abhorrent treatment of a female character coupled with her equally graphic revenge, Meir Zarchi’s relentless film became a cult classic because it empowered women in a way not even horror survival girls had before. It’s easy to comprehend the shock-value appeal, and that’s exactly what Steven R. Monroe tried to hit on with 2010′s remake, and in my opinion, struggled to do. It was no longer fresh, the shock was lost, and it felt a little more sadistic. I Spit On Your Grave 2, Monroe’s controversial sequel to his equally controversial remake, unfortunately feels like beating a dead corpse, um, I mean horse, as creating a franchise that brutalizes women and forces us to watch just doesn’t really get me all that excited. Hooray, more rape,...
