Possibly because the current writing staff of The Simpsons is secretly in the pocket of Big Jean, the stand-out segment of this year’s “Treehouse of Horror” episode was a pants-based tale called “Denim.” The Venom parody found Homer bonding with a symbiotic pair of alien jeans, and seducing Marge who, in this story, works as a server at “Irv’s Non-Canonical Diner.” Although it still somehow managed to be less ridiculous than the actual Venom franchise.
The episode justifiably earned acclaim for its unusual visual style, which combined the traditional Simpsons 2D look with stop-motion animation created by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios (of Robot Chicken fame), which brought the titular fabric to life.
In addition to its boundary-pushing aesthetic, “Denim” also stretched the limits of prime-time cartoon sexiness. As writer and co-showrunner Rob Lazebnik pointed out, the scene in which Marge tries in vain to get Homer out of his...

Seth MacFarlane's animated sitcom "Family Guy" debuted in 1999 as, effectively, a crass redux of "The Simpsons." This was a telling development in popular culture, as "The Simpsons," which debuted a full decade earlier, was seen as the crass redux of most traditional sitcoms. The below-average boob Homer Simpson (Dan Castellaneta) was replaced by the boorish moron Peter Griffin (MacFarlane). "The Simpsons" often presented juvenile humor, but was clearly made by smart people who liked to slip high-end literary and scientific references into their scripts. "Family Guy," in contrast, well full-bore fratboy, leaning heavily into tasteless (and darkly funny) jokes about sexual assault, racism, and celebrity culture. "Family Guy" pivoted on pop culture references, specifically remembered by those born in the mid-1970s.
"Family Guy" also aged up its child characters. On "The Simpsons," Bart (Nancy Cartwright) and Lisa (Yeardley Smith) were 10 and 8 respectively. On "Family Guy," Chris (Seth Green...

Netflix is not proceeding with more installments of That ’90s Show, Deadline has learned. The news was confirmed on Instagram by star Kurtwood Smith who indicated that the comedy will be shopped elsewhere.
The cancellation comes a little over a month after Part 3 of the That ’70s Show sequel was released Aug. 22. That translates to a two-season run as Netflix releases multi-cam comedies in Parts (aka half-seasons) after their initial run.
The 10-episode first season of That ’90s Show (aka Part 1), which featured appearances by several That ’70s Show stars, including Topher Grace, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and Wilmer Valderrama, was followed by a Season 2 renewal for 16 episodes, split into two parts, Part 2 and 3.
The writing was pretty much on the wall after Part 2 debuted on June 27, only cracking the Netflix Top 10 once, in its first full week of release, with 1.8 million views. The streamer then moved up the premiere...

Sarah Michelle Gellar was the star of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" but the cult series really was an ensemble show — especially as it went on. The main characters in "Buffy" grew from the titular slayer and her "Scoobies" to an extensive cast of beloved favorites who became just as integral to the show's success and its enduring status as one of the great TV shows of the late-'90s/early aughts.
In that sense, it's not surprising that while Gellar was the lead, there were several other cast members who appeared in almost as many episodes as the star herself. Across seven seasons and 144 episodes, Buffy was joined most frequently by her close friends Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan) and Xander Harris (Nicholas Brendon) — the original Scooby gang. Then, there was her Watcher, Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head), Scooby adoptee Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter), and "big bad"-turned ally Spike (James Marsters). All these characters,...

As opposed to the artists of the computer animation community, stop-motion workers don’t have a labor union that can protect them from on-the-job hazards, ensure their livelihoods and advocate for them in abusive workplaces — and they never will, if Seth Green and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios get their way.
In a TV landscape where budgetary limitations and tightened production schedules has led to most animated shows sporting a soulless aesthetic “sameness,” the long-running Adult Swim sketch series Robot Chicken stands out as a bastion of traditional, “practical” animation. Stop-motion animation is, inarguably, far slower and more laborious than the computer-assisted alternatives, but Robot Chicken and its production company, Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, have almost single-handedly kept the art form alive — or, it would be more apt to say, the stop-motion artists of Stoopid Buddy Stoodios are doing the hard work of preserving the medium with every painstakingly staged frame of Green’s flagship series.

The McU's 5 Lamest Variant Cameos No One Asked For - Main Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always thrilled fans with interconnected stories and cameos. But many don’t hit the mark and create confusion among viewers.
Some even disappoint fans, leaving them wondering if there is a related backstory. Keep reading to learn more about the McU's worst variant cameos that no one asked for.
Theater Cameos in Thor: Ragnarok
Thor: Ragnarok was the best Thor movie made to date. One of the best scenes in the film was the genius use of cameos in a theatrical performance. Loki disguises himself as Odin and watches a play about the events of Thor: The Dark World. The commentary of the play, along with the casting, is hilarious.

Star Wars: Every Droid You Didn't Know that was Voiced by a Celebrity - Main Image
Droids have always been a source of slapstick and comedy in the Star Wars universe. While fans can’t see the person operating the droid, Lucasfilm does tend to cast some well-known faces to play the occasional bucket of bolts.
Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker have already gone down in Star Wars as the most iconic droid actors, but here are some droid characters from the series that some fans may not have known were voiced by celebrities.

Fans of “That ’90s Show” can expect new episodes sooner than they previously anticipated. Part 3 of the Netflix comedy’s second season will now premiere on Aug. 22 rather than the previously announced Oct. 24.
Season 2 of the “That ’70s Show” spinoff was divided into multiple parts, an increasingly common trend for the streamer. The first half premiered in June. Netflix announced the news on X via its Netflix Is a Joke account on Tuesday.
“That ’90s Show” first premiered in January 2023. During its first season, all 10 episodes were released at once.
Set during the summer of 1995 and ’96, the comedy revolves around Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), the daughter of Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon). 15 years after the events of “That ’70s Show,” Leia spends the summer in Point Place, Wis., with her grandparents Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) and finds her own group of misfit friends.

The Simpsons is bringing some huge names to Springfield this fall! At San Diego Comic-Con last month, producers spilled the details on celebrity cameos and creative collaborations coming up in Season 36.
Kicking things off is Conan O’Brien in the episode “Bart’s Birthday.” Conan was actually a Simpsons writer way back when, so it’ll be fun to see him back where it all began. Danny DeVito is also stopping by the party – he first played Homer’s brother Herb years ago, so viewers will be curious to see what role he plays now.
Another big name making his Simpsons debut is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. I mean, John Cena! The former wrestling-turned-movie star seems like a natural fit for the show’s silly humor. And can you believe they got Tom Hanks too? The Oscar winner has never appeared on the show before now.

Current box office ‘it’ man Glen Powell has been tapped to guest star on the first of two “Family Guy” holiday specials set to run exclusively on Hulu. In a Halloween-themed episode that will premiere on October 14, Powell will play “Patrick McCloskey,” the reigning champion in Quahog’s annual Pumpkin Contest. Also guesting on that episode: Derek Jacobi as the voice of Stewie’s beloved teddy bear, “Rupert.”
Per the logline, the Halloween episode follows Peter and his friends as they “aim to unseat the reigning champion (Glen Powell) in Quahog’s annual Pumpkin Contest by any means necessary.” The Powell and Jacobi castings were announced Saturday during the “Family Guy” panel at San Diego Comic-Con. (After the Halloween special will be a Christmas event as well.)

The Simpsons panel at San Diego Comic-Con saved a final surprise for last, as the event ended with a resurfaced video message from Vice President Kamala Harris.
After introducing the final clip as coming from a “super fan,” Matt Groening — who created the animated Fox series that is soon to launch its 36th season — set up footage of a laughing Harris delivering a well-known line from a previous “Treehouse of Horror” episode. The clip was recorded years ago by a group of University of Chicago students who were tasked with getting an elected official to recite a Simpsons quote.
“We must move forward, not backward; upward, not forward; and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom,” Harris said in the clip. It led to big cheers from the crowd, who appeared to assume that the moment was filmed for the panel, given that no context was provided about the clip.

The Simpsons is partnering with the folks from Stoopid Buddy (“Robot Chicken”) to take on “Venom” in this fall’s annual “Treehouse of Horror” extravaganza. In this case, Homer meets his match with “Denim.” It’s the 35th “Treehouse of Horror,” and the show is promising “the scariest 35th Halloween special ever.”
Creator Matt Groening, showrunner Matt Selman and producers Rob Lazebnik, Jessica Conrad and Tim Bailey joined guest moderator Kevin Smith to discuss “Treehouse of Horror,” other episodes and special voices from the upcoming season.
In the case of “Denim,” Selman told Variety that the segment will center on Homer’s “deep relationship with a simple alien symbiotic pair of jeans. It’s a really funny, silly segment about the jeans are going to be actual actual stop motion denim created by the Stoopid Buddies animators that do the ‘Robot Chicken’ shows.”

Martin Mull, who played Colonel Mustard in Clue, Roseanne’s boss Leon Carp in the ABC comedy Roseanne and starred on Norman Lear’s Fernwood 2 Nite, died Thursday at his home. He was 80.
The news was revealed by his daughter Maggie Mull, an exec producer on Family Guy.
“I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th, after a valiant fight against a long illness. He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials. He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny. My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and—the sign of a truly exceptional person—by many, many dogs. I loved him tremendously,” she wrote.

It’s not a bad gig working with Seth Green and the gang at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. They’re the crew behind the goofy animation on Robot Chicken, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. and Crossing Swords. And now they’re getting another crack at an epic Simpsons couch gag.
“Did you see @stoopidbuddystoodios new @thesimpsons couch gag?” asked Green in his latest Instagram post. “We are beyond thrilled to be a part of this iconic history.”
It’s a journey to the center of the Simpsons’ couch, with Homer pulling on a loose thread that sends him falling between the cushions. As 2D cartoon Homer plummets into the depths of Inner Sofa, he is somehow transformed into a 3D, crocheted version of himself where he’ll confront all of the lost treasures that live inside his aging furniture.
“I wondered what was down here,” Homer marvels as he begins his exploration. The first treasure he finds?...

Sure, irradiated zombies and bloodthirsty apocalypse bikers can be pretty scary. Draculas and Frankensteins? Scary. Cthulhus… Mothmen… Graboids? The absolute worst. But for indie content creators, no boogeyman or cryptid is quite as hair-raising as the many great and monstrous leviathans ritualistically summoned by the occult and alchemical ritual known as filmmaking. Look: there’s Shaky Financing dragging itself out of the swamp, eyes burning blood red! And there: Collapsing Theatrical Market, unfurling its batwings in the rafters of the old abbey! And so on and so on.
But! As the Cryptkeeper, Vaultkeeper and Old Witch have reminded us many times before, misery loves company. So rather than hanging on the edge of your seat anxiously peering through ragged knuckles at the current (but only temporary!) dumpster-fire state of your latest film project, instead console yourself with the fact that many of your Halloweentime horror favorites have had their own very bumpy rides.

The animated series revolving around the Griffin family’s escapades, Family Guy endured over two decades since its debut in 1999. While it has since received immense success and has become one of the longest-running shows, its journey was almost cut short due to Fox’s initial concerns over ratings.

Family Guy‘s impact on pop culture is indelible. With 22 seasons in and still going, the Seth MacFarlane show is among one of the most popular animated shows of all time. However, things weren’t always pretty for the adult-animated series, as after its third season underperformed back in the early 2000s, Fox pulled the plugs off the show completely.
Considering that social media wasn’t a big thing like it is today, the only way left to watch them was through reruns or DVDs. Seth Green, who was devasted by the cancellation, recalled making sure he had every episode on his VHS.

It’s graduation night, and for the students at Huntington Hills High School, there’s one last hurrah before going off to college. The 1998 comedy Can’t Hardly Wait carried on the tradition of John Hughes 80s classics with ageless themes of longing, alienation, optimism and fear amongst teenage angst as they all come crashing together at a house party. The movie was also a big follow-up for the star Jennifer Love Hewitt, who became the 90s “It Girl” after starring in Party of Five and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Sony has now announced the all-new 4K UltraHD Blu-ray release of Can’t Hardly Wait, which is set to be released on August 20. The studio has released all the details and specs that will be included in this new Blu-ray.
The official synopsis reads,
“It’s graduation day at Huntington Hills High– a time for Pomp and Circumstance, tassels and mortarboards,...

To many, the term “Nft” now evokes little more than a neon haze of pandemic-era memories about easily duped online speculators who lost millions buying drawings of apes and stick figures. But a new documentary implores cryptocurrency novices to give the much-lampooned technology a second chance.
“Shark, Pickle, Cone” follows the team at Stoopid Buddy, the animation studio and production company best known for “Robot Chicken,” as it designed and built a float for the 134th Rose Parade in partnership with Nouns, a decentralized autonomous organization (commonly referred to as a Dao) that auctions off NFTs and uses the proceeds to fund art projects.
Translated into layperson terms, Nouns works as a form of crowdfunding with a few extra steps. The decentralized company uses an automated system to produce a new piece of AI-generated artwork and auction it off each day. The pictures, which all feature a character wearing pixelated glasses,...

You don't have to be a connoisseur of film and television history to keep up with the fascinating story of Firefly, which happened in 2003. Then Fox ordered a sci-fi adventure series from Joss Whedon in the spirit of Star Wars, Star Trek or Babylon 5.
The future director of The Avengers filmed a space opera combining science fiction and western, but for a number of reasons, not only did the network refuse to continue the popular show, but also wasn't too eager to show the finished 14 episodes.
The indignation of fans knew no bounds, but all the viewers and creators of Firefly managed to achieve was the shooting of the feature film Serenity, a cult in narrow circles, but not very successful at the box office space action movie.
Twenty years after the movie's release, talk of canceling Firefly still rages, especially since the show's actors are still closely associated with the show's characters.
