‘Barbie’ Sequel in “Early Stages” as Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach Settle on Story Idea (Exclusive)
As Barbie painted the world pink and covered the box office in a whopping $1.4 billion of green, an urgent question emerged and was lobbed at everyone involved: What about a sequel?
It’s a query that even someone as adorably clueless as Ken could’ve come up with and one that Warner Bros. and Mattel were understandably eager to answer with a resounding, “Yes, please!” as it became the indisputable pop culture phenomenon of 2023. But the answer has always rested with the Barbie brain trust of Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach even if, at times, a franchise seemed inevitable.
The partners in life and creativity — they co-wrote the script and snagged an Oscar nomination for their collaboration — were clear in pursuing a follow-up if and only if they could find the story to support it. At least that is what director Gerwig repeatedly stated. “My North Star is, what do I deeply love?...

Did Christian Bale Almost Lose Out Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Christian Bale’s commitment to his roles? Next-level. The acclaimed actor is known for undergoing dramatic transformations for his characters. However, when he was gunning for the role of Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins, his dedication almost backfired. After losing 60 pounds for The Machinist, he bulked up a ridiculous 100 pounds of muscle to get into Batman shape. But here’s the catch: he got too big. Nolan, being a perfectionist, freaked out and told Bale to lose 30 pounds—or no Batsuit. Talk about a major oops moment.
Bale had already shredded his body for The Machinist, surviving on just an apple, coffee, and water—plus a little whisky and cigarettes to speed up the process. So when the Batman producers saw him after filming, they got worried. If he wanted to play Batman, Bale needed to get back into form.

Rachael Ray fans have been worried about the food personality for some time, as there have been some alarming updates of late related to her health. Recently, Ray made another cryptic comment that is only making her fans worry even more. So, what’s the latest on this?
Rachael Ray’s Health Concerns Started With Slurred Words
What opened up this whole can of worms related to Rachael Ray’s health was a video that she filmed. Viewers noted that she seemed to be slurring her words in the clip. Everything from a possible health condition to knocking back too many alcoholic drinks was talked about among the fanbase.
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with having a little alcohol every now and again, however, because Rachael Ray is nearing her 60s, her fans were, understandably, concerned that there could be something far worse going on health-wise for her.

I was not surprised when Naomi Watts co-hosted This Is the Swell’s 3rd Annual Menopause Symposium over the weekend as part of the Menopause Awareness Month celebration.
Watts has always been vocal about her struggles with perimenopause and menopause and her desire to create a community where women’s voices are heard to eliminate the stigma attached to menopause.
The 56-year-old actress wore a muted off-white outfit, incorporating her signature feminine, sophisticated, yet casual style with a dash of sass and edge from her accessories.

“Maria” serves as the third entry in the unofficial trilogy from director Pablo Larraín about iconic 20th-century women during a specific period when they receded from public view. 2016’s “Jackie” examined the role Jackie Kennedy played in the aftermath of her husband’s assassination, and “Spencer” took a measured approach to the life of Diana Spencer before her official divorce from the future King Charles of England. To say that “Maria” is the least all-encompassing of this trilogy is not an insult, but rather a calculated choice on Larraín’s part. This isn’t the story about how the consciousness of a nation was thrust on the shoulders of a young woman, but rather a deconstruction of the artifice of celebrity.

These days, Hollywood tries to incorporate themes from the real world possibly to help educate the masses regarding certain touchy subjects.

Lives of historical figures often get cinematic treatment to tell sweeping tales of real life events, and Ali Abbasi’s The Apprentice captures former president Donald Trump in a key moment before the 2024 presidential election. Starring Sebastian Stan as Trump, Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn and Maria Bakalova as Trump’s first wife Ivanka, the film marks the latest in a catalog of films that explore the lives of political people. From United States Presidents to their wives and First Ladies, to Supreme Court Justices to scientists and brilliant minds, nobody is off limits, especially if the stories are triumphant. Others have more tragic endings.

Naomi Watts made a striking appearance alongside her son, Sasha Schreiber, 17, on the red carpet of the premiere of her new film, The Friend, in New York City. The pair sported matching all-black looks, and the teenager’s growth was on full display as he stood noticeably taller than his mother. It marked a rare public appearance for Sasha.
The 55-year-old actress, known for her roles in films such as The Impossible and King Kong, looked elegant in a black strapless dress featuring a sheer bodice with a corset-like design and a glossy, structured skirt. She completed the look with pointed black heels and statement earrings, adding to the glamorous ensemble.
However, Sasha’s height caught the attention of fans and photographers. He wore a sleek black suit paired with a simple black shirt, opting for a laid-back yet polished look that further emphasized his towering presence.

Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton existed on opposite ends of the filmmaking spectrum when the latter burst onto the scene in the 1980s. The former was no stranger to tales of terror in the suburbs, having been involved with "Poltergeist" and "Gremlins" by then. (Even "E.T." adapts the stylings of a horror flick in the scene where government agents in spacesuits invade the Taylor family's home in search of the titular alien.) However, the suburbs themselves were cozy and comforting in Spielberg's films; it was usually exterior forces that threatened their domesticity. Burton's movies, on the other hand, depicted the suburbs themselves as being unnerving and baffling. His sympathies laid with outsiders like Pee-wee Herman and Edward Scissorhands, who were content to lead their strange, loner existences until others insisted on intruding upon them.

The 76th annual Emmys rebounded from its record-low viewership last year with a double digit percentage increase.
The second Emmys of 2024 drew 6.87 million viewers as it debuted from 5-8 p.m. Et on ABC, according to Nielsen live-plus-same-day figures. That’s up 54% from the 75th annual awards ceremony, which scored 4.46 million viewers as it aired in January 2024 on Fox.
Overall, Sunday’s ceremony drew in the biggest audience the Emmys have seen in three years, since the show scored 7.8 million viewers during its CBS airing in September 2021, which was boosted by an NFL lead-in. Not only did the 76th annual ceremony outpace viewership for January’s record-low audience, but viewership for Sunday’s show also exceeded the previous all-time low of 5.9 million viewers for the 2022 show.

American actor Billy Crudup has been in the acting business since the 1990s, with his debut movie being Sleepers. He then went on to participate in several well-acclaimed and high-profile movies. Most recently, the actor has been making headlines for his Emmy win for The Morning Show. In his speech, he made sure to give a lovely shoutout to his wife, Naomi Watts.

Billy Crudup just snagged a win at the 76th Annual Emmy Awards, taking home the trophy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role in The Morning Show. But things might have been a lot different if he had ended up playing Barry Allen’s dad in The Flash.

Eugene and Dan Levy hosted the 76th Emmy Awards — or as Dan called it, “Broadcast TV’s biggest night for honoring movie stars on streaming services.” It was the year’s second Emmys show, since the 2023 ceremony got delayed by the strike until this past January. The father-son duo kept it light and affable and Canadian all night, reprising their Schitt’s Creek chemistry. The January ceremony went for low-key nostalgic charm; this was a rerun that turned into your basic blah-bath. Pretty standard for the Emmys, always the least glam,...

And just like that, another hotly contested Emmy awards season race has come to a close. After last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes pushed the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony into January of this year, last night the glitzy statue-doling bash's 76th edition — this year hosted by Schitt's Creek's Eugene and Dan Levy — took place at the Peacock Theater in LA. And on a night of few major surprises, the two most nominated shows of the year — samurai epic Shōgun and kitchen-based "comedy" The Bear — got their hands ("Hands!") on 18 and 11 awards respectively, including historic Outstanding Actor and Actress In A Drama wins for the former's Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, and second Outstanding Actor and Supporting Actor wins for the latter's Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

So, uh, how did “Hacks” beat “The Bear”? Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to break down that shocking Emmy upset and all the winners and losers from Sunday’s 76th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Despite breaking its own record for most wins by a comedy series in one year with 11, “The Bear” failed to grab the big one. The reigning Best Comedy Series champ was taken down by “Hacks,” which “only” won two other awards this year, Best Comedy Actress for Jean Smart — her third — and Best Comedy Writing. Signs also pointed to another series win for “The Bear” after Liza Colón-Zayas beat Hannah Einbinder in Best Comedy Supporting Actress. Did the discourse over whether or not “The Bear” is a comedy finally do it in? Was it the mixed reception to its third season that’s not even eligible until next year?

I have no clue if the expression “run it back” originated in sports, but I most frequently hear it in the context of the end of a successful season, when a player or coach or owner expresses the desire to keep all of the key pieces in place in order to repeat the prior achievement. Sometimes it works and a dynasty is born. Sometimes, though, an effort to run it back falls flat, proving how ephemeral the initial triumph was in the first place.
Back in January, the strike-delayed 75th Primetime Emmy Awards proved to be one of the best awards telecasts in recent memory. Hosted by Anthony Anderson, the show was packed with memorable moments that reflected a love for and pride in the medium of television.

FX’s Shogun extended its reign over the 2024 Emmys on Sunday night. Going into the evening, the hit samurai series already held the record for the most wins by any show in a single year, having bagged 14 trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys a week ago. But the show further cemented its rule inside the Peacock Theater at the Primetime Emmys, winning an additional four awards, including the top categories of best drama series, best actress in a drama series for Anna Sawai, best actor in a drama series for Hiroyuki Sanada and best drama directing for Frederick E.O. Toye.
Shogun’s triumph is momentous on several fronts. The historic awards haul represents a huge win for FX and parent company Disney for a pricey series that took nearly 10 years to bring to fruition and once looked like a very uncertain bet. It’s also a major moment for Asian representation and non-English-language television.

Cast and executive producers of ‘Shogun’ on stage at the 2024 Emmys (Disney/Frank Micelotta)
Father and son Eugene and Dan Levy did a respectable job of hosting the 2024 Primetime Emmys, popping in just enough throughout the two-hour running time to guide the show without overstaying their welcome. Their opening bit avoided any controversial topics, and Dan Levy got a big laugh when he described the Emmys as broadcast TV’s biggest night for honoring movie stars on streaming services. Eugene also earned solid applause when he joked, “In the true spirit of The Bear, we will not be making any jokes,” while addressing the show’s controversial classification as a comedy.
Speaking of The Bear, the series was awarded four Emmys during the broadcast in the Actor (Jeremy Allen White), Supporting Actor (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Supporting Actress (Liza Colón-Zayas), and Outstanding Directing categories. But Hacks pulled off a surprise win, snagging the Comedy Series Emmy.

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards just aired on ABC, and things went about as expected. In other words, the excellent historical drama Shōgun won Best Drama Series; the caustic slice-of-life series The Bear won Best Comedy Series, since I guess it's a little more like a comedy than Shōgun; and the autobiographical stalker drama Baby Reindeer won Best Limited or Anthology Series.
Those three were the big winners of the night, with them each taking home four awards. Jeremy Allen White won Best Actor In A Comedy Series as expected, and his costar Ebon Moss-Bachrach won Best Supporting Actor. On the drama side, Hiroyuki Sanada won Best Actor and Anna Sawai won Best Actress; she was the one I was really invested in. She was magnificent as Mariko and if she hadn't won I would have been forced to write a strongly worded letter to whoever votes in these things.

“The Bear” cleaned up at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, just not in the final category as so many experts predicted. And “Shōgun” proved more vulnerable than expected, not winning a single Emmy until two hours and 20 minutes into the show.
Below, the 7 biggest unexpected moments of the night.
Billy Crudup Beats Tadanobu Asano and Takehiro Hira from “Shōgun”
Yes, Crudup won this category in 2020 for “The Morning Show,” but that was in the pre-“Shōgun” times. And considering Crudup was up against two other “Morning Show” cast members, Mark Duplass and Jon Hamm, it seemed likely that that voters would split the vote among the three of them, opening up a potential path to victory for Tadanobu Asano from “Shōgun” — or his cast mate Takehiro Hira. In the end, voters more likely split the “Shōgun” vote, clearing the way for Crudup’s second win.

After “Shōgun’s” record-breaking 14 victories at last week’s Creative Arts Emmys, the question wasn’t whether it’ll extend its own record at Sunday’s Primetime Emmy Awards but by how many wins it will do so. The answer was four, making the FX drama’s grand total of 18 Emmys the new benchmark for most wins by a program in a single year.
“Shōgun” won Best Drama Series, lead trophies for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai and drama directing for Frederick E.O. Toye for “Crimson Sky. It had double bids in writing and supporting actor but lost the categories to “Slow Horses” and Billy Crudup (“The Morning Show”), respectively. Best Drama Supporting Actress was the only above-the-line category in which it failed to earn a nomination.

As Dan Levy said, the 76th Annual Emmy Awards were “Broadcast TV’s biggest night for honoring movie stars on streaming services.”
If you don’t have streaming and if you didn’t watch one of the 33 shows nominated out of the 516 scripted programs available in the US, you probably didn’t think much of the show.
But we’re still here rounding up the winners, so you didn’t have to watch. You’re welcome! Maybe the award winners will inspire you to watch a show you never have before.

A night of nostalgia, a Baby Reindeer sweep and an incredible launching pad for the upcoming seasons of The Bear and Shōgun made up the 76th annual Primetime Emmys on Sunday.
While the Family Levy didn’t exactly rock the L.A.’s Peacock Theater as the first father-and-son hosts, breakout moments came courtesy of TV’s old guard and Jodie Foster’s first Emmy win.
Here are some of the great moments, surprises and snubs from tonight’s telecast on ABC.
Great moment when Eugene Levy made a crack about The Bear‘s record wins in the comedy category and how, well, it’s hardly a knee-slapping series. “In the true spirit of The Bear we will not be making any jokes.”
Surprise when Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez came out right after the Levy opening monologue and showed us how to really make...

The first story to watch is how “Shōgun” will perform. The FX historical drama set in feudal Japan led the nominations with 25, and it has actually already won most of them. At last weekend’s Creative Arts Awards, which highlighted crafts and guest performances, the series prevailed 14 times. That set a new record for the most prizes ever won by a program in a single year. The record was previously held by the limited series “John Adams,...

When Billy Crudup took to the Emmy stage to accept his second Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series win for the role of Cory Ellison in Apple TV+ series The Morning Show, his first thought was for his wife — and fellow nominee — Naomi Watts.
“I’m happy to be here with my piece of eye candy there, my wife,” he said after an initial thank you. He also noted, in a seemingly political aside, that “she happens to be an immigrant,” and went on to champion her for her “searing performance this year for which she’s nominated,” referring to her lead role of Babe Paley in anthology series Feud: Capote vs. the Swans.
In The Morning Show, Crudup’s role of network president Cory, for which he has been nominated three times, has involved everything from singing showtunes in Season 1, to unrequited love, Machiavellian meltdowns, and heartbreaking vulnerability...

Cory Ellison is forging a new path for himself in Season 4 of The Morning Show, after being left without a job at Uba at the end of the third season, Billy Crudup says.
The actor teased his character’s upcoming fate on the heels of his Emmy win on Sunday night, telling reporters backstage: “I never imagined him without a job or without succeeding.”
“I thought that was one of the things that was most enjoyable about playing [the character]. He never got down on himself, because he always had the confidence that he would, in the end, prevail very quick in his maneuvering,” Crudup continued. “So to face the daunting task of what comes next, I have left that to the writers, and they have delivered something very interesting. We’re in the middle of shooting it now, so I can’t divulge it, but it’s new terrain for Cory,...

Billy Crudup earned his second Emmy win Sunday night for his role in Apple TV+’s The Morning Show.
The 56-year-old actor took to the stage to accept the best supporting actor in a drama series award at the 2024 Emmys and immediately offered praise to his wife, fellow Emmy nominee Naomi Watts. “I’m happy to be here with my piece of eye candy there,” Crudup said to kick off his speech.
“My wife, who also happens to be an immigrant and also gave a searing performance for which she’s nominated, and she starts businesses too, so it’s nice to be by her side,” he continued. Watts is nominated for best actress in a limited series or anthology for her role as Babe Paley in FX’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.
After his win, Crudup offered quippy answer to press when asked if he and Watts competed with one another.
