If it weren’t for veteran actress Lynda Carter, the world might not have gotten an awesome portrayal of Wonder Woman in the mid-1970s and the rebooted character in 2016.

Donning the iconic costume and the Lasso of Truth back in 1975, Lynda Carter received worldwide fame for her role in Wonder Woman. However, Gal Gadot took on the mantle of Wonder Woman when she was cast in Zack Snyder’s Dceu back in 2016.
Was Lynda Carter okay with the casting of Wonder Woman?
Fans were in for a shock when Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman dropped from the sky to fight alongside Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck during the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Although an unknown face to the newer audience, people fell in love with her the moment they saw the heroic Amazonian princess.

When Sonu Sood promised his directorial debut Fateh would hit all the notes of cinematic brilliance, he wasn’t just speaking metaphorically. His upcoming cybercrime-based action saga, Fateh, ropes in Grammy-nominated Loire Cotler, the internationally acclaimed voice of Dune. Now, she lends her vocal alchemy to Fateh with a track she has composed, titled ‘Call to Life’—and it’s nothing short of a symphonic adrenaline rush.
Grammy-nominated composer and rhythm vocalist Loire Cotler, a member of Hans Zimmer’s band and famed for her unique vocal style that fuses an exotic blend of world rhythms with operatic grace, is all set to elevate the frequency of Fateh’s action-packed narrative. One pulse-pounding sequence in the film is backdropped to her composition and ethereal vocals, transforming a heart-thumping scene into an almost transcendental experience.

As Martin Scorsese once said, “Music and cinema fit together naturally. Because there’s a kind of intrinsic musicality to the way moving images work when they’re put together. It’s been said that cinema and music are very close as art forms, and I think that’s true.” The right piece of music––whether an original score or a carefully selected song––can do wonders for a sequence, and today we’re looking at the 25 films that best expressed that notion in 2024.
From seasoned composers to accomplished musicians, as well as a smattering of soundtracks, each perfectly transported us. Check out our rundown of the top 25, which includes streams to each soundtrack in full where available.

Hans Zimmer’s musical score was one of the outstanding elements of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies. He was recognized with an Academy Award for Best Original Score for the first Dune film at the 94th Oscars. However, we learned a few days back that Dune: Part 2, despite receiving immense praise for Zimmer’s score, was made ineligible in the Original Score category.

Zimmer has now addressed the issue and he is critical of The Academy’s move to overlook Dune: Part 2‘s music. Zimmer might still make it to the nominations, thanks to Steve McQueen’s Blitz score. However, he hinted at the dangerous precedent The Academy has set where studios will look to make sequels solely based on their potential awards eligibility.

One of the glaring omissions from Monday’s Golden Globe nominations was that Denis Villeneuve’s epic sequel “Dune: Part Two” was not among the eight films in the best cinematic and box office achievement category.
Introduced for 2023’s ceremony where “Barbie” took home the statuette, eligible films must gross more than $150 million with a minimum of $100 million in the U.S. According to Box Office Mojo, 20 movies released in 2024 have grossed more than $100 million domestically, including Warner Bros’ “Dune 2,” which brought in more than $700 million globally.
According to Dick Clark Productions, the award recognizes “the year’s most acclaimed, highest-earning and/or most viewed films that have garnered extensive global audience support and attained cinematic excellence.”
Needless to say, “Dune 2’s” exclusion was pronounced, even with the film still scoring two noms for best picture (drama) and Hans Zimmer’s original score (which is not Oscar eligible...

Hans Zimmer is a legendary composer known for creating iconic scores for films like The Lion King, Inception, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Dune. His unique blend of traditional and modern music has earned him numerous awards, including Oscars and Grammys.
However, Zimmer’s score for Dune 2 has been disqualified from this year’s awards season. The disqualification happened because the score reused too much music from the first film, violating Academy rules that limit the amount of previous music in a sequel’s soundtrack.
The Academy’s Best Original Score rules state that most of the music must be new, with only a small amount allowed to be reused. Despite fans praising Dune 2‘s score for its creativity, it reused over 20% of the original film’s music, leading to its disqualification.

Hans Zimmer is a legendary composer known for creating memorable music for movies like The Lion King, Inception, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Dune. His mix of traditional and modern sounds has earned him many awards, including Oscars and Grammys.
However, Zimmer’s score for Dune 2 won’t be part of this year’s awards season. It was disqualified because it reused too much music from the first movie, breaking Academy rules that limit how much old music can be included in a sequel’s soundtrack.
The Academy’s rules for Best Original Score require most of the music to be new, with only a small amount reused from earlier works. Although fans loved the Dune 2 score for its creativity, it reused more than 20% of the first film’s music, breaking the rules and causing its disqualification.
This decision has sparked discussions about whether these rules are fair for sequels.

Case in point: The Academy has officially disqualified Hans Zimmer's score for Dune: Part Two from Oscars eligibility, Variety reports. There have been some concerns about the sequel's music not getting a nomination because...

Hans Zimmer, a legendary composer, is known for creating some of the most memorable movie soundtracks. He has scored iconic films like The Lion King, Inception, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Dune, blending traditional and modern music. Zimmer’s innovative work has earned him numerous awards, including Oscars and Grammys.
However, the renowned composer will miss this year’s awards season as his score for Dune 2 has been disqualified from the Oscars and other ceremonies like the BAFTAs. The Academy ruled that Zimmer’s score reused too much music from the first film, exceeding the limit for old material allowed in a sequel’s soundtrack.
Hans Zimmer, who won an Oscar for scoring the 2021 film Dune, has been a fan of the novel since his teenage years. His decision to work on Dune over Tenet showed how deeply personal the project was for him. Even after completing the first movie,...

Hans Zimmer is a world-famous composer known for creating some of the most impactful soundtracks for movies. He has worked on iconic films like ‘The Lion King,’ ‘Inception,’ ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ and ‘Dune,’ blending traditional and modern sounds. Zimmer has won many awards, including Oscars and Grammys, for his powerful and innovative scores.
However, it seems that the world-famous composer will have to sit out the upcoming awards season as his work has been disqualified from the Oscars and other award ceremonies like the BAFTAs.
Hans Zimmer’s score for ‘Dune 2’ was disqualified from the Oscars because too much of it reused music from the first movie. The Academy’s rules only allow a small amount of old music in a sequel’s score, and Zimmer’s work went over the limit.
Hans Zimmer, who won an Oscar for scoring the 2021 film ‘Dune,’ had loved the novel since he was a teenager.

The Fall Of The Roman Empire Comparison (Photo Credit – Facebook)
With Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II continuing to draw big numbers at the box office, conversations about the potential for a third installment are taking off, with the prolific filmmaker already calling in its favor. The sequel to the Academy Award-winning Gladiator saw Scott return to the helm, continuing a story loosely inspired by historical events. Adding Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Denzel Washington to the beloved franchise, the big-budget tentpole’s ability to blend melodrama with history has been a significant draw for audiences worldwide.
While Gladiator features characters based on historical Roman citizens like Joaquin Phoenix’s Emperor Commodus and Connie Nielsen’s Lucilla, the story nevertheless took creative liberties, notably with Russell Crowe’s Maximus. This character replaced Narcissus, a real-life wrestler who assassinated Emperor Commodus. Despite these alterations, the film’s narrative entertained audiences’ imaginations with...

Best Song Written for Visual Media is especially interesting to predict at the Grammys since you can also take into account the Emmys, Oscars, and other visual media prizes. But this year’s five nominees are mostly what you expect from a category like this, with Grammy-loved artists and big hits making up the lineup.
You can probably rule out a couple of songs. Barbra Streisand’s “Love Will Survive” was an unexpected nominee, and while it features songwriting from legendary composer Hans Zimmer, songs from TV programs rarely win here, and it doesn’t help that “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” had limited buzz. Next, “Better Place” from “Trolls Band Together” was a decent-sized hit overall, peaking at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. Plus, the nostalgia around Nsync’s reunion could leave many wanting to reward them. However, “Trolls” and the song peaked long ago, and voters might decide this...

Assuming you haven’t bought tickets to the symphony lately, your only exposure to classical music has been hearing it as the score playing in the background of movies. In that sense, musically, that stupid superhero movie you watched might just be the highest form of art you’ve experienced all year.
Those movies are going to be the absolute pinnacle of any composer’s career. Before that, they’ll be doing even sillier stuff, and that goes equally for the most famous composers of all.
6 John Williams Did the Original Theme Song to ‘Gilligan’s Island’
In the 20 years after 1976, four new movies broke the record for highest-grossing movie of all-time: Jaws, Star Wars, E.T. and Jurassic Park. All four of them were scored by John Williams. But a decade before the earliest of those four, Williams was enlisted to write the theme song to a TV show — a new series called Gilligan’s Island.

As soon as he was hired to write the score for Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II,” Harry Gregson-Williams knew that he’d need to come to terms with the music Hans Zimmer had written for the original “Gladiator” in 2000. “I’ve done sequels before, but this was perhaps a bit more complex emotionally since I’m buddies with Hans, and his score for the original is so loved, quite rightly,” he said. But just as Scott used a couple of flashbacks to Russell Crowe’s character, Maximus, but spent most of his time on Paul Mescal, who plays Crowe’s son, Lucius, Gregson-Williams wanted to be sparing with the quotes from Zimmer’s themes.
“There’s 100 minutes of score in this movie, and probably five or six minutes that contain Hans’ themes,” he said. “At the end of the film, I wanted to just slip into Hans’ theme as if it evolved there naturally.

Based on Frank Herbert’s novels, the Dune franchise is among the most celebrated film franchises in the past few years. An even more successful sequel was released in 2024, continuing the journey of Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides.
With the culmination of the two films, fans are now all waiting for the next part of the series, which is set to be based on the novel Dune: Messiah. Tom Hanks is taking viewers across the Western Hemisphere in the first trailer for the NBCUniversal and the BBC’s wildlife documentary series The Americas.
The Academy Award winner, who was hand-selected by producers, narrates the 10-episode series, which uses cutting-edge technology to immerse audiences into ecosystems across North and South America. Executive produced by Mike Gunton, with music by Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer Hans Zimmer, The Americas will debut with two back-to-back episodes in February.
Toby Gorman, president of Universal Television Alternative Studio, previously told The Hollywood Reporter that selecting Hanks as narrator was an easy choice.
“We asked ourselves, who is the American version of [BBC wildlife documentary legend] David Attenborough? We agreed internally there was a list of one: Tom Hanks. What we didn’t know was if he would agree to do it. [But] it resonated with him,” Gorman said.

Composer Harry Gregson-Williams understood the assignment when director Ridley Scott asked him to score “Gladiator 2.”
“It was to embody the spiritual essence of the first film, but move forward into a fresh new world,” Gregson-Williams explains.
In early talks with Scott, Gregson-Williams also knew he would have to compose at least 100 minutes of music.
The sequel picks up two decades after the first “Gladiator” film. It follows Lucius (Paul Mescal) — the grandson of Rome’s former emperor Marcus Aurelius and son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and Maximus (Russell Crowe). Lucius is forced into the gladiator arena after Roman soldiers led by General Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal) invade his hometown. He is forced to fight as a gladiator much to the entertainment of young emperors, Caracalla and Geta (Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger).

I consider myself an admirer of Steve McQueen’s career, with 12 Years a Slave remaining his magnum opus, reinforcing my personal opinion that he’s stronger as a director than as a screenwriter, given that it’s the only film in which he didn’t contribute to the script. Therefore, my expectations for Blitz were moderately positive. The story follows George (Elliott Heffernan), a nine-year-old boy during World War II in London, sent to safer areas within the country by his mother, Rita (Saoirse Ronan). Defiant and determined to return home, George embarks on a perilous adventure while his mother desperately searches for him.

After the original "Gladiator" was released in 2000, the story of a Roman General forced to become a slave and a gladiator in the Colosseum went on to take the Academy Awards by storm. It earned a whopping 12 nominations, and it went on to win the Oscars for Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe, as well as Best Costume Design, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects. But there's one key piece of "Gladiator" that didn't take home the trophy, despite being nominated: Hans Zimmer's incredible original score, which lost out to Tan Dun's soundtrack for "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."
Despite not winning the Oscar, "Gladiator" would become one of the most influential scores in cinema at the time. So many movies tried to replicate the power of Hans Zimmer's beautiful, triumphant, and magnificent music. In particular, the theme that emerges early on in the film's action-packed opening...

At the 94th Academy Awards in 2022, Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" was nominated in 10 categories: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Original Score, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Make-Up and Hairstyling. Conspicuously missing from that capacious list was, of course, Best Director — a truly mystifying omission on the part of the Academy considering Villeneuve pulled off the impossible by successfully adapting Frank Herbert's supposedly "unfilmable" book.
At the time, one of the movie's stars, Josh Brolin, was very unhappy about Denis Villeneuve's Oscars snub for "Dune." The actor, who had previously worked with Villeneuve on "Sicario" and plays House Atreides Warmaster Gurney Halleck in the "Dune" films, posted a video to Instagram where he described the decision as "almost numbing" and "flummoxing," even while he congratulated his other "Dune" colleagues on their nominations. Everyone loves Stilgar. Paul Atreides loves him and his people enough to wage a holy war that devastates the known universe. Dune fans love him enough to adopt his awe-struck "Lisan as Gaib" pronouncement and shout it at people they like—like Hans Zimmer in the middle of his concert—six months after the fact.

Plot: Sixteen years after the death of Maximus in the Coliseum, the now-grown Lucius (Paul Mescal), who is secretly the heir to the Roman Empire, finds himself enslaved and forced to fight in the Coliseum while Rome crumbles under the leadership of two tyrannical brothers, Emperor Geta (Joseph Quinn) and Emperor Caracalla (Fred Hechinger).
Review: In my estimation, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator is one of the best historical dramas ever made. When it came out in 2000, it was immediately hailed as a classic, making star Russell Crowe a household name. In the twenty-four years since its release, it’s been often imitated but never equaled. Now, Ridley Scott is back for a lavish sequel, which is being rightly acclaimed as one of his best films in the last twenty years.
While Gladiator II isn’t the instant classic the original was, it’s nonetheless a highly entertaining, faithful sequel, jam-packed with action and spectacle.

The director of Blitz talks us through the choices he made to create his dreamlike love letter to wartime London
1 — Don’t look back
None of my films have been similar to any other film, from Occupied City to Hunger to Small Axe to Shame. I mean, they are all very, very, very different. And that’s not just because I want to be different, it’s because the subject matter asks for it to be like that. It’s all about subject matter, and then making work that can enhance what I want to talk about. With Blitz, I wanted to look through a child’s perspective. Like a Brothers Grimm fairytale, it’s very dark, but it’s almost like a dream — and I think that seeing these things through a child’s perspective is what gives it a dreamlike quality. Because I’m putting you...
