Born in Austria, but mostly raised in Italy, he moved to the United States in 1976.

He is the son of Sephardi Jewish parents from Morocco, his father from Fez, and his mother's family from Casablanca.

One of his first jobs was as a valet parking attendant for celebrity affairs, including Elizabeth Taylor.

Has two daughters: Savannah, born in October 1996; and Maya, born in March 2005.

Met his wife Paula Marshall while filming That Old Feeling (1997). In the movie, she is about to marry another guy but ends up staying with Danny's character.

Has played characters who are unceremoniously killed off in three films: Eraser (1996), The Rock (1996) and Titanic (1997).
