In 2011, French thesps Omar Sy and Anne Le Ny co-starred in the comedy hit “Untouchable.” Now, the two are reunited in the domestic thriller “Out of Control,” with “Lupin” star Sy in one of the leading roles next to Elodie Bouchez, José Garcia and Vanessa Paradis, while Le Ny serves as director and Axella Cachman’s co-writer.
“There was a real bond and warmth between us then, which was easy to revive 13 years later,” says Le Ny, who shared the screen time with Matt Damon in “Stillwater” and earned her first writing/helming kudos for her breakthrough movie “Those Who Remain” (2008).
Her seventh pic as helmer, “Out of Control (“Dis moi juste que tu m’aimes”) world premieres at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival official competition on Nov. 16, is being produced by Move Movie’s Bruno Levy, in co-production with Sy’s production company Korokoro, France 2 Cinéma and La Compagnie Cinématographique & Panache Productions,...

The "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" gang has been at fault for quite a few deaths over the years -- from a guy shooting himself in a Russian Roulette game arranged by Frank, to Mac and Dee letting a kid drown at a water park. If you count animals, Charlie's got the highest body count in the gang, as he's murdered not just the many men rats in Paddy's Pub, but the women and children rats too. Then again, the implied horrors that went on in Frank's old sweatshop might put Charlie's rat genocide to shame.
But for Glenn Howerton, who plays the psychopathic Dennis Reynolds, one of the deaths that haunts him was only kind of the gang's fault. In a 2017 interview he talked about how he regretted killing off Roxy (Alanna Ubach), a successful yet unstable sex worker whom Frank tries to marry in season 7. She unexpectedly...

The 1990s represented a golden epoch for action cinema. This was the time which saw VHS and its digitized successor DVD introduce a whole new generation of fans to the magic of stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. And those titans from the ‘80s still claimed big wins, too, at the box office and home media via the likes of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Demolition Man, and Cliffhanger.
It was also the decade that saw audiences turn out in droves to theaters and rental stores to catch a glimpse of Steven Seagal’s flying fists in movies like Under Siege or Jean-Claude Van Damme and his trademark splits in Timecop; Jackie Chan finally got the larger American fanbase he so richly deserved thanks to the Rush Hour movies while Bruce Willis gave us Die Hard With A Vengeance, the best of all the Die Hard sequels, before pivoting...

“If you ever come near my family again, I’ll kill you. Do you understand?”
We’ve all heard the phrase “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” We pull it out when we see a woman reacting to the hurtful choices of a romantic partner, standing up for herself after rejection, or really expressing any kind of powerful emotions at all. It’s a bon mot so pervasive that it makes you wonder if there are any men in hell. Maybe it’s all just hysterical women pulling hair and trying to steal each other’s boyfriends. Regardless of this reductive phrase and dehumanizing stereotype, few films in the history of cinema explore the concept of the scorned woman like Adrian Lyne’s Fatal Attraction. This cautionary tale about infidelity and revenge pits two women against each other for the love of one man with a surprising female killer emerging from the wreckage.

Not every erotic thriller is a film noir, but they all owe a debt to the genre. The ‘80s erotic thriller took the formulas established by post-war noir and adapted them for a post-pornographic film landscape, adding scenes of explicit sex and nudity where they were once merely suggested. Like classic noirs, erotic thrillers also revolve around the archetypes of the femme fatale and her hapless mark. These, too, were updated to fit the times, reaching their ultimate ‘80s form in Adrian Lyne’s 1987 smash hit “Fatal Attraction.”
In Lyne’s film the male schmuck in question is a married Manhattan yuppie about to move to the suburbs, and the femme fatale is a single career woman with a loft in the Meatpacking District. Fear of female independence is foundational to the femme fatale archetype. Here, it’s incorporated with Susan Faludi’s “backlash” theory to create what Brian De Palma...

Superman has been played by a variety of actors since his creation, with Christopher Reeve embodying the character in 1978’s Superman. Although many saw him as the ideal take on the character, his co-star Margot Kidder wasn’t sold on Reeve at first.

Similarly to Reeve, Kidder won the role of Lois Lane by winning over Superman director Richard Donner. Donner was interested in Kidder after having seen her on a television show. His opinion was further solidified when Kidder showed up to audition for the role. What might have cost actors a film role in other auditions just endeared Kidder to Donner even more.

Nina Ruscio remembers seeing the blockbuster psychosexual thriller “Fatal Attraction” when it was released in 1987 and the controversy that followed it, the “deep psychic weight” and “issues of misogyny and mental health” that surrounded the hit about marriage and infidelity that starred Michael Douglas, Glenn Close and Anne Archer. “It crossed a lot of the wires of psychic intensity at the time,” she recalls. So when the opportunity arose for Ruscio to serve as the production designer on the new eight-part “Fatal Attraction” reboot for Paramount+, she knew that if she signed on, there was some risk she’d find herself in the middle of a new firestorm. But she trusted her instincts in saying yes.

As the longest-running live-action American sitcom, with 15 seasons filmed and another four ordered at the time of writing, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" has seen its share of ups and downs. While every season has at least one stand-out episode, the show tends to go in waves: It takes some big swings, finds a sweet spot, and then struggles somewhat before hitting another crest.
Part of what makes the series so satisfying is that, unlike the long-running comedies that begin relying on familiar jokes that grew stale years ago, the "Always Sunny" crew continues to challenge themselves and grow. While not every idea hits, it's impressive that the show continually works to sharpen its satirical voice and expand from its shock-comedy roots. With so much more on the way, now's a great time to look back at the peaks and valleys so far.

The new Paramount+ adaptation of “Fatal Attraction,” which sees Lizzy Kaplan and Joshua Jackson stepping into the roles made famous by Glenn Close and Michael Douglas, seeks to capture all of the erotic thrills of the 1987 film in an episodic format. But no adaptation can ever be an exact replica of its source material, so things always have to change. According to the show’s stars, that could mean that one of the film’s most iconic scenes will play out differently in the show.
The image of Anne Archer coming home to find a pet bunny boiling on the stove — a depraved trick from her husband’s mistress, played by Close — is one of the most enduring moments from “Fatal Attraction.” But in an interview with People, both Kaplan and Jackson hinted that fans shouldn’t expect to see another rabbit killed in the series.

Fatal Attraction — which wheezes back to life as a series starring Joshua Jackson and Lizzy Caplan, premiering April 30 on Paramount+ — began as the 1979 short Diversion, about a one-night stand gone haywire, which writer-director James Dearden fleshed out into a feature screenplay.
With contributions from Nicholas Meyer (writer-director of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan), Paramount producers Stanley R. Jaffe and Sherry Lansing were convinced they had a viable erotic thriller on their hands. The script tells the story of Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas), a married New York lawyer who has what he thinks is no-strings sex with Alex Forrest (Glenn Close), a publishing executive, while his wife, Beth (Anne Archer), and daughter are out of town. How wrong he is. Alex quickly becomes dangerously obsessed with Dan and the wife who stands in her way. The rest — from Alex’s “I’m not going to be ignored, Dan” to...

A curious Anne Archer lifts the lid off of a boiling pot only to discover the body of her young daughter’s mangled and bloated bunny. It’s a film scene that still echoes in the minds of cinephiles and physiological thriller enthusiasts alike. However, unlike the 1987 film starring Archer, Michael Douglas and the incomparable Glenn Close, Paramount+’s new series, “Fatal Attraction,” is void of boiled mammals. What it does have is a more intricately fleshed-out narrative of a pompous and ambitious district attorney Dan Gallagher (Joshua Jackson), whose tawdry affair with a young woman, Alexandra Forrest (Lizzy Caplan), quickly spirals out of his control.
“Dirty John” creator Alexandra Cunningham and writer Kevin J. Hynes’ series opens in the present day in Los Angeles, with a frazzled and bearded Dan pleading his case for parole. He’s served 15 years for killing Alex, a crime he attests to, before being granted his freedom.

Plot: A deep-dive reimagining of the classic 80’s thriller, exploring timeless themes of marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes toward strong women, personality disorders and coercive control.

The highest-grossing film of 1987 worldwide, the original “Fatal Attraction” served as a cautionary tale against casual infidelity, showing how even a seemingly innocuous fling can upend someone’s entire life. Lawyer Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas) has a steamy weekend hookup with publishing exec Alex Forrest (Glenn Close), which derails in the most horrific way imaginable when she becomes obsessed with him, putting his entire family in jeopardy. (Close maintains that people told her for years afterward that the movie saved their marriage.)
In a TV landscape overrun with prequels, sequels and reboots, the source material for Paramount Plus’ new “Fatal Attraction” series proves surprisingly fertile. The show’s eight episodes provide plenty of time for the story to expand past paranoia, into the more interesting question of why Alex Forrest became so obsessive in the first place — not to mention why Dan, apparently a happy family man, tumbled from fidelity so easily.

The official trailer for Paramount+’s Fatal Attraction (the series inspired by the film) begins with the man at the heart of the love triangle attending a parole hearing after serving time for second-degree murder. He addresses a panel of judges and explains he’s been fixated on discovering why he did what he did and why Alexandra Forrest died.
Additional scenes show what Daniel thought was going to be just a one-night stand transitioning into something much more dangerous. Brief clips show Alexandra pursuing Daniel, and even showing up at his home. The trailer ends with Daniel proclaiming his innocence and swearing he’s going to prove he’s not a murderer.

When the Paramount+ series adaptation of Adrian Lyne’s blockbuster 1987 psychosexual thriller “Fatal Attraction” arrives later this year, the series will aim to tell Alex Forrest’s side of the story. Glenn Close played the “boiling bunnies” baddie in the iconic original, an editor of a publishing house who takes up an ill-fated affair with a successful Manhattan lawyer, played by Michael Douglas.
Anyone who’s seen the original or knows the cues of the tragic opera “Madame Butterfly” knows that it doesn’t end well for Alex.
But that’s precisely why showrunner, writer, and executive producer Alexandra Cunningham (“Dirty John”) wanted to turn the story on its head, here casting Lizzy Caplan in the role of Alex. (It was one of the reasons why she couldn’t fully commit to the Starz revival of “Party Down” outside of a season-finale cameo.) Joshua Jackson plays Dan Gallagher (the Douglas...

"Superman: The Movie" had the star power of Gene Hackman and Marlon Brando front and center, but once audiences saw that a man could fly, they fell in love with the fresh faces of newcomers like Christopher Reeve. He was (and still is) the perfect embodiment of the Man of Steel. Few have been able to capture the kind spirit that Reeves brought to the BAFTA Award-winning role. For as great as he was, however, it would be difficult to imagine this movie without the scene partner of a lifetime in Margot Kidder as Lois Lane.
Kidder had already been around the block prior to "Superman," having made waves in Brian De Palma's "Sisters" and Bob Clark's "Black Christmas." Actors like Anne Archer ("Fatal Attraction"), Lesley Ann Warren ("Clue"), and Stockard Channing ("Grease") all went in for screen tests, but Kidder's proved to be the best. It was clear,...

Adrien Lyne's classic erotic thriller, "Fatal Attraction," is the latest gem from cinema's glory days to be dusted off and receive the TV remake treatment. What makes this streaming remake of "Fatal Attraction" from Paramount+ rather interesting is the cast list it has assembled, which includes Lizzy Caplan, Joshua Jackson, and Amanda Peet.
In "Castle Rock" season 2, Caplan did the unthinkable and managed to fill Kathy Bates' Oscar-winning shoes as Annie Wilkes, the obsessed "number one fan" and villain of Stephen King's "Misery." Now, Caplan has set her sights on Alex Forrest, the obsessed stalker and antagonist first played by the inimitable Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction."
Here's everything we know about the upcoming "Fatal Attraction" series so far.

Remember erotic thrillers? They’re back — in streaming prestige series form. “Fatal Attraction,” the Paramount+ series remake of Adrian Lyne’s 1987 film, will premiere its first two episodes April 30, the streamer announced out of its Television Critics Association press conference on January 9.
The original film, based on screenwriter James Dearden’s 1980 short film “Devotion,” stars Glen Close as Alex Forrest, a woman who has a brief affair with lawyer Dan Gallagher (played by Michael Douglas). Suffering from some sort of mental illness, Alex refuses to accept Dan’s attempts to end their weekend-long relationship and stalks him, becoming a threat to him and his family.
The film generated some controversy at the time of its release, primarily for its sexual content as well as accusations of sexism in its portrayal of Alex, but it was a financial success, grossing 320 million at the box office, and receiving six nominations at the Oscars,...

Adrian Lyne's "Fatal Attraction" wasn't just a surprise blockbuster when it hit theaters in the fall of 1987, it was a cultural phenomenon that answered a titillating "what if" with a terrifying worst-case scenario. Happily married Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas) is, in some ways, a victim of timing. He happens to set off sparks over a Manhattan business lunch with book editor Alex Forrest (Glenn Close) as his wife, Beth, (Anne Archer), and young daughter, Ellen (Ellen Hamilton Latzen), head out of town for the weekend. He could say no. He should say no. But relieved of fatherly duties for a few days, his libido takes the wheel and plunges him into a torrid affair that both participants initially agree is nothing more than a scratch-an-itch fling.
But Alex wants more. She falls in love with Dan, and can't accept the abrupt end of their acquaintance. She turns suicidal, then vengeful.

Lizzy Caplan is reframing “Fatal Attraction” following the #MeToo movement.
Caplan, who stars in the Paramount+ series reimagining of the 1987 erotic thriller, revealed that the original movie was seen “very much through a 1980s perspective” with a perfect man (Michael Douglas) having his life ruined after embarking on an affair with a woman (Glenn Close).
“The [original] movie still is great. It’s still scary, and makes you ask big questions, but there were two different endings and there was one ending that Glenn Close preferred, but they ended up going for another one,” Caplan explained to Grazia magazine. “Glenn Close was sort of fighting to protect her character Alex’s fragile mental illness that she was dealing with. None of that was really reflected in the film. Audiences saw it very much through a 1980s perspective — this amazing guy makes one mistake and now this horrible woman is trying to ruin his life.

Paramount describes the new series as “a deep-dive reimagining of the classic psychosexual thriller and ‘80s cultural touchstone, the new series will explore fatal attraction and the timeless themes of marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes toward strong women, personality disorders and coercive control.” In other words, this will be a more nuanced approach than “sexy woman crazy,” which is the general, problematic sentiment of the original (admittedly still wonderful) film.

Don’t get your bunnies in a boil: The Paramount+ reboot of “Fatal Attraction” will certainly have even more twists than the (theatrical) original.
Exactly 35 years since Adrian Lyne’s iconic erotic thriller debuted, Oscar nominee Glenn Close gave some sage advice for the revival series: Show more of a well-rounded Alex, and less crazed woman stereotype.
“I hope they tell her backstory, her side of the story,” Close told Entertainment Tonight. “[Alex] is a human being in need of great help. She’s a fragile person.”
The original ending for “Fatal Attraction” concluded with Close’s Alex killing herself. Test audiences reportedly didn’t like the darker finale, and director Lyne instead opted to have jilted “other woman” Alex die at the hands of the married couple (Michael Douglas and Anne Archer), with domesticity triumphing for all.
