Brad Pitt may look like he’d only ever play a super suave leading-man role in a spy thriller, but appearances can be… deceptive.
Back in September, Wolfs, Pitt and George Clooney’s first joint comedy in 16 years, premiered with little fanfare and generally (but not enthusiastically) positive reviews. While the movie about two disparate fixers paired together for a sensitive job didn’t leave much of an imprint on the movie-going internet, it may have sparked a resurgence of interest in Pitt and Clooney’s paired filmography, especially in the comedy genre. Over the last couple of months, Twitter, TikTok and Reddit have seen a wave of posts discussing Joel and Ethan Coen’s 2008 black comedy Burn After Reading, with extra attention paid to Pitt’s performance as the bumbling, jock-brained, wannabe blackmailer Chad Feldheimer, a personal trainer who accidentally finds himself in possession of some sensitive… shit.

Actor Diane Keaton has kissed many actors over the course of her historic career. But there were still a few actors like Morgan Freeman who managed to surprise Keaton despite her experience.

Keaton never got tired of kissing her male co-stars. So much so that she looked forward to kissing more. On The Ellen Show (via Contact Music), Keaton confided that she wanted to break a specific cinematic record she made for herself.
“What I’ve decided that I would like as my goal in life is to be the woman in films who has had the most kisses with men on film. I’m thinking that maybe 50 is what I’m going for, so I have a little bit of time,” she said. “I have done exactly… more like18. I...

Denzel Washington is rising in Gold Derby’s Oscar odds for Best Supporting Actor for Paramount Pictures’ “Gladiator II,” according to our combined predictions. Many pundits are singling him out as the standout performance in Ridley Scott’s latest sequel, as a former slave who plots to be the emperor of Rome. Interestingly enough, the only other actor in Scott’s entire filmography to emerge victorious at the Academy Awards for one of his movies was Russell Crowe (with whom Washington worked with on Scott’s “American Gangster” in 2007) for the original epic 24 years ago. Will Washington follow in Crowe’s footsteps and secure another performance victory for the franchise?
Back in 2000 when the first “Gladiator” premiered, it smashed box office numbers, becoming the second-highest grossing movie of the year, and won five Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor for Crowe. However, Crowe’s triumph was a bit...

Mikey Madison has the potential to make history at the 2025 Oscars in Best Actress with Neon’s “Anora.” At the age of 25, she is receiving universal praise for her portrayal of the title character, a Brooklyn stripper who gets into a whirlwind, impetuous marriage. Sean Baker‘s wild romantic dramedy is continuing to gain massive buzz since winning the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and Madison is currently headlined at the top of the combined odds at Gold Derby to win Best Actress. Should it occur, she would be the ninth youngest Best Actress Oscar winner and the first since over a decade ago.

David Tennant and Michael Sheen will return for a final, feature length episode of Good Omens.
The television adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s fantasy series Good Omens has been hugely successful over the last few years, not least due to the chemistry and charisma of leading duo David Tennant and Michael Sheen. The second series, which debuted in August 2023, was reported to be the number one show on Amazon Prime worldwide, and the first season was hardly struggling for acclaim, either.
The show had been commissioned for a third series before serious abuse allegations about Neil Gaiman (who wrote the adaptation) were made public. Gaiman has strongly denied those allegations.
Production on several of Gaiman’s projects, including Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives, was halted, although it seems Netflix is still pressing ahead with the second series of The Sandman. You can read about the allegations here.

Neil Gaiman is (mostly) exiting “Good Omens” amid some bad press.
The series creator, showrunner, executive producer, and writer has stepped aside from the show’s third season, which paused its pre-production amid assault allegations against Gaiman, according to Deadline.
Prime Video today has announced that “Good Omens” will return for a feature-length series finale that will be produced without Gaiman’s involvement — though he did help write it.
“While Gaiman has contributed to the writing of the ‘Good Omens’ series finale, he will not be working on the production,” the official press statement reads.
“Good Omens” stars Michael Sheen as an angel and David Tennant as a demon Crowley. Frances McDormand, Jon Hamm, and Miranda Richardson co-star. The series is adapted from Gaiman’s novel “Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch,” co-written with Terry Pratchett. Good Omens is getting a final send-off, albeit a truncated one.
The Amazon fantasy drama will end with one 90-minute episode in lieu of a full third season with creator Neil Gaiman exiting after allegations were made against him by a slew of women.
Michael Sheen and David Tennant, play the angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley, respectively, will return for the one-off television movie, which will begin shooting in early 2025 in Scotland, after pre-production was paused due to the allegations.
Gaiman contributed to the writing of the series finale but will not be working on the production and his production company the Blank Corporation is no longer involved. A new writer is expected to finish up the work, although insiders said that deal has not been closed.
This comes after Tortoise Media released a podcast that chronicled accounts of two women, with whom he was in consensual relationships, who accused him of sexual assault.

Could Fargo Dive Deeper into the Coen Brothers’ Cinematic Universe? Here’s What We Know! ( Photo Credit – YouTube; Wikimedia )
Fargo fans, buckle up! With the Coen brothers’ knack for twisted tales and oddball characters, it’s no wonder people are wondering if the Fargo TV universe could start pulling in even more quirky nods to the Coens’ iconic films. Could we see a Big Lebowski crossover? Or maybe a sneaky Raising Arizona Easter egg? The Coen-verse is full of wild possibilities, and with Fargo already dipping into their signature dark humor and crime-ridden storytelling, there’s a lot of potential to unpack.
Marge Gunderson: The Heart of the Madness
It all started with Fargo (1996), a dark comedy that had critics (and audiences) buzzing. Frances McDormand’s Marge Gunderson was an instant classic. A quirky, pregnant cop chasing after one of the most absurd crime sprees ever, all while keeping her Minnesota-nice demeanor intact?...

Are you not entertained by this year’s exciting and unpredictable Oscar race? Well, you should be because Ridley Scott’s epic and potentially huge blockbuster sequel, “Gladiator II,” has exploded onto the scene following its first screening in Los Angeles in front of an audience of AMPAS and SAG voters.
The long-awaited sequel to best picture winner “Gladiator” (2000) is igniting the spark for Scott, its three-time Oscar-nominated director, to be in the running to win his long-coveted Academy Award. Additionally, his stars Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington are now contenders in their respective acting races.
After picking up his first best actor Oscar nomination for “Aftersun” (2022), Mescal could find himself back in the category for his “Gladiator II” leading role. Meanwhile, Washington, who already has two acting Oscars, could be in contention for a third, potentially joining a small list of three-time acting winners, including Frances McDormand, Jack Nicholson,...

Mikey Madison is the current Best Actress Oscar frontrunner for her heartbreaking performance in the title role of Sean Baker‘s “Anora.” Her likeliest competitors are two past Oscar winners — Nicole Kidman, 57, for “Babygirl” and Angelina Jolie, 49, for “Maria” — plus six-time nominee Amy Adams, 50, for “Nightbitch” and Karla Sofia Gascon, 52, for “Emilia Pérez.”
At age 25, Madison has one advantage over her main rivals for the award: her youth. Of the 97 winners of this race, almost one-third (32) were in their 20s.
Among those ingenues to take to the stage to collect this coveted prize was Emma Stone, who was 28 when she won for “La La Land” in 2017. Stone was 35 when she picked up a bookend Oscar earlier this year for “Poor Things,” which made her the 35th Best Actress winner in her thirties.

Nearly 10 years after its launch, Italian sales company True Colours is branching out from feature films into the TV content space under the new management of Elliot Gustin-Hollman, formerly with Paris-based distribution powerhouse Newen Connect.
The move into TV sales is being made by True Colours – which is co-owned by Italy’s Indigo Film and Lucky Red – after these companies increasingly ventured into scripted dramas over the past decade. And these Italian shows, made by indie producers, need to be sold outside of Italy with the proper dedication and curation.
“Ten years ago we saw the opportunity to start a film sales company and it paid off,” said Indigo Film partner Carlotta Calori, adding that True Colours has become a reliable international film distributor not just for them but for other Italian producers. And “over in time, even for producers outside Italy.”

A brutal Oscar season is ahead…in a good way.
As the Oscar race heats up, Hollywood is bracing for an intense, wide-open awards season. After its whirlwind tour through the Venice, Toronto, and New York Film Festivals, A24’s newly acquired historical epic “The Brutalist” has emerged as a potential heavyweight in this year’s Academy Awards lineup. Starring Adrien Brody in a career-redefining role as a Hungarian-born Jewish architect who survives the Holocaust and journeys to the U.S., the film screened in front of an influential audience at CAA on Sunday night. The room was filled with industry professionals, journalists, and Oscar winners like Cord Jefferson (“American Fiction”). After the screening, the film’s director, Brady Corbet, and co-writer Mona Fastvold participated in a post-screening Q&a session, giving the audience insight into the seven-year odyssey to bring this project to life.

Why are we drawn to stories ‘based on a true story’? This phenomenon enchants audiences by offering a blend of entertainment and authenticity, creating a nifty overlap between reality and imagination. Fiction may seduce our minds, but it’s the non-fiction elements that tether us to the ground.
Consider the Coen Brothers (Joel and Ethan Coen), masters at transforming the ordinary into cinematic brilliance. They famously claimed that their 1996 crime thriller, Fargo, was ‘based on a true story’.
Fargo (1996) | Credit: Gramercy Pictures
However, this isn’t exactly the case. While the Coen Brothers let us believe the narrative was rooted in real events, they pulled the wool over our eyes with a cheeky twist, blending fact and fiction in a way that was nothing short of genius.

Is it possible to steal a movie out from under George Clooney and Brad Pitt, two of the matinee idols of our time? With “Wolfs,” Austin Abrams makes the case that you can.
The 28-year-old star, perhaps best known up to this point for dancing shirtless onstage to Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero” in a flamboyant musical sequence in HBO’s “Euphoria,” again finds himself in a manner of undress in Jon Watts’ Apple TV+ comedy film. Here, he’s down to only his briefs and a pair of crew socks, running around Lower Manhattan trying to evade two fixers (Clooney and Pitt) toiling until twilight to clean up his mess.
In the big-budget but minor-key comedy written and directed by Watts — in a return to movies-for-adults form after his duties on the Tom Holland “Spider-Man” films — the charismatic Abrams is simply known in the script as “Kid.

There’s an art to a good dynamic duo movie. The heroes start out despising each other, circumstances force them to work together, they get in each other’s way for a bit, until begrudgingly they help and accept help from each other. And maybe, just maybe, in the end they care about something other than their lone wolf cool dude status. An interesting plot to hang everything on, a car chase or two, and a couple of big stars? Now you’ve got a good thing going! George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s latest team-up ‘Wolfs’ is all of the above, with the perfect level of humor and self-seriousness to have some real stakes but remain fun. It’s a movie that rewards viewers who are paying attention and trying to untangle the knot at the center of the plot, but can also be an escapist adventure through the...

Saoirse Ronan is gearing up for a fierce Oscar season, with two performances poised to battle for the industry’s top honors.

If double-nominated, which is currently projected on Variety Awards Circuit’s predictions, she would be the 13th person and youngest actor to receive two acting nominations in the same year. Seven of the 12 previous actors went on to win for one of their nominated works.

It’s an often-touted cliche that a great way to win an Oscar is for a performer to portray a real-life person. Cillian Murphy won Best Actor earlier this year for playing J. Robert Oppenheimer in “Oppenheimer,” Jessica Chastain took home Best Actress in 2022 for her portrayal of Tammy Faye Bakker in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” and Rami Malek won Best Actor in 2019 for his depiction of Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
It’s curious, then, that Best Actress has often been rewarded to performers playing fictional characters rather than real people. Over the past decade, 28 of the 50 nominations have been for original turns, with a whopping seven of those winning out of 10. Here’s the complete breakdown.
Two out of 2024’s Best Actress nominees were nominated for playing fictional people. The others were Annette Bening (“Nyad”), Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), and Carey Mulligan (“Maestro”). However,...

Bill Murray first came to national attention when he joined “Saturday Night Live” in its second season to replace the departed Chevy Chase. Like many of his SNL colleagues of the era Murray was able to parlay his television success into a film career. He first made his film mark in comedies but in later years would take on increasingly dramatic films as well, earning an Oscar nomination as Best Actor for “Lost in Translation” (2003). Murray would return to TV in 2015 for the HBO limited series “Olive Kitteridge,” for which he won an Emmy as Best Supporting Actor playing a suicidal man who becomes involved with the title character (Frances McDormand).
Murray’s career got off to a somewhat shaky start when he was cast in the first season of “Saturday Night Live” but unfortunately for Murray it was the wrong “SNL.” Instead of the classic program for NBC (for...

For almost 40 years, Joel Coen and Ethan Coen – better known as the Coen Brothers – have created a number of quirky, singular titles spanning a variety of genres. They’ve also become industry and academy favorites, picking up four Oscar wins for writing, directing and producing. Celebrate this dynamic duo by taking a look back at all 18 of their films together, ranked worst to best.
The Coens made their feature debut with the Southwestern neo-noir “Blood Simple” (1984). Shot on a shoestring budget with a then largely unknown cast, the film established the brothers’ talent for visually striking, wholly original stories.
They followed their breakout hit with a series of increasingly ambitious, wildly different features: the wacky Southern farce “Raising Arizona” (1987), the moody gangster saga “Millers Crossing” (1990), the bizarre Hollywood satire “Barton Fink” (1991), and the nostalgic screwball comedy “The Hudsucker Proxy” (1994).

Exclusive: Neil Gaiman is understood to have offered to step back from the third and final season of Prime Video’s fantasy drama Good Omens.
Deadline revealed on Monday that pre-production had paused on the BBC Studios-produced show in the wake of allegations made by four women against Gaiman, which he denies. This came after Disney’s planned feature adaptation of Gaiman’s 2008 YA title The Graveyard Book also was put on pause.
Now, we understand that Gaiman has made an offer to Amazon and producers to take a back seat on the latest season so that it can continue amid crisis talks over the Terry Pratchett adaptation’s future. Deadline understands Gaiman’s offer is not an admission of wrongdoing following a podcast from Tortoise Media that chronicled accounts of two women, with whom he was in consensual relationships, who accused him of sexual assault. Another two have since come forward.

Get ready for the iconic duo of George Clooney and Brad Pitt in an action comedy film from the director of Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man Trilogy, Jon Watts. Wolfs is one of the most anticipated films coming this year and most of that anticipation can accredited to Clooney and Pitt coming together in a film after such a long time.
Wolfs revolves around two fixers hired to cover up the same high-profile crime by some very dangerous people as they find themselves in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse. While, initially Wolfs was supposed to have a simple wide theater release but now it has gotten a bit complicated, and if you are excited about the film you can find out below when and where to watch it.

Pedro Almodovar‘s, “The Room Next Door,” just moved to the top tier of Oscar contenders with a big win at the Venice Film Festival. It picked up the top prize, the Golden Lion, on September 7. This recognition, from a jury headed up by French actress Isabelle Huppert, came just days after it debuted on the rialto to a rapturous reception.
The Oscar champ’s first English language feature tells the tale of Ingrid (Oscar winner Julianne Moore) and Martha (Oscar winner Tilda Swinton), who were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become a novelist while Martha was a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.
This is the second English language film in a row to win this precursor prize.

Jon Watts rediscovers his filmmaking joie de vivre with the classic comic thriller “Wolfs,” starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt as a pair of lone-working fixers who find themselves cleaning up the same mess when hired for the same job. Seeing this “Ocean’s Eleven” duo of matinee idols back up on the silver screen together means you’re in sure hands from the start — the witty repartee flowing, the smug suave bandying about, and all in a lean, clean, cooly running-timed comedy that places Jack (Clooney) and Nick (Pitt) into their own sort of “After Hours” late night in New York. That’s because the job gets a lot messier than expected when a guy simply dubbed in the credits as “kid” turns out not to be as dead as the district attorney (Amy Ryan) who brought him up to her hotel room thought. “Wolfs” is slickly directed with a classy touch by Watts,...

Wolfs is an interesting reminder of the route writer-director Jon Watts might have taken if he hadn’t fallen into the Spiderverse, being an amplified version of his 2015 Sundance debut Cop Car. That film starred two unknown kids in a kind-hearted crime caper reminiscent of Spielberg in his Sugarland Express days; this one leans into After Hours-period Scorsese, and stars two of the most famous people in the world. Though they have a lot of fun with it, the familiarity of the two graying matinee idols as they bicker and snark through an effortless but also slightly weightless genre romp leaves one with the sneaking suspicion that, at times, they might be having a bit more fun than we are.

To those still mourning Carmela Soprano’s cut scene from “The Many Saints of Newark” in 2021, Edie Falco is now weighing in on how her character played a part in the prequel film to David Chase’s “The Sopranos.”
Speaking with IndieWire to promote her upcoming indie comedy “I’ll Be Right There,” Falco tells us about how her opening scene for “Many Saints” had gotten cut.
“I came in, and I did a monologue,” Falco told IndieWire. “I’m embarrassed that I don’t know what [exactly] it was about. It was Carmela as if she was musing on the old days, and then the movie began. Then I found out that [Taylor] didn’t end up using it. What a flippy day that was [laughs]. All these years later they’re doing my hair, putting on jewelry, putting the nails back on, it was like a serious trip. There were so many ‘Sopranos’ people there.

Denzel Washington has consistently delivered standout performances — including as a director in recent years! — across his decades-long career. He already has two Oscars to his name and could be on his way to a third Academy Award with his role in Ridley Scott‘s “Gladiator II.”
This follow-up to the 2000 Best Picture champ stars Lucius (Paul Mescal) as Lucius, the grandson of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius. Lucius is forced into slavery but resolves to fight as a gladiator under the leadership of power broker Macrinus. And that’s where Washington comes in. The titanic Washington plays Macrinus, who is the mentor figure to Lucius and also opposes the rule of emperors Caracalla (Fred Hechinger) and Geta (Joseph Quinn).
We are predicting that Washington will be nominated for Best Supporting Actor alongside Samuel L. Jackson (“The Piano Lesson”), Clarence Maclin (“Sing Sing”), Kieran Culkin (“A Real Pain”), and Stanley Tucci (“Conclave...

“Don’t kill anybody unless you have to,” a rookie cop is told on his first day on the job in Greedy People. Not long afterward, he accidentally does just that, setting off a spiral of lethal events that give the the darkly comic thriller an impressive body count. Unfortunately, the proceedings become increasingly tiresome the more the characters are killed off, with the result that despite an impressive cast, the film comes to feel like a Coen brothers rip-off.
Set on a small island town rather than the snowy Midwest, this Fargo-like tale includes a wide array of characters, nearly all of whom prove either gleefully immoral or just plain dumb. The convoluted plot is set in motion when the aforementioned cop, Will (Himesh Patel), responds to an emergency call and nearly shoots a woman (Traci Lords, giving you an idea of the film’s irreverence) simply going about her business in her kitchen.

What do Billie Lourd, Colin Hanks, and Bette Midler have in common? The answer: They were all rather taken with Daniel Reisinger.
The charismatic Australian director (Sideswiped, Players) spoke to The Hollywood Reporter on just how he landed such an impressive cast for what is a relatively niche British rom-com. And Mrs is one of Edinburgh Film Festival‘s world premieres in its out of competition category this year.
To describe this film, penned by Melissa Bubnic, as a rom-com feels misleading; its protagonist Gemma, played by Irish actress Aisling Bea, is left bereft and blindsided when her fiancé Nathan (Hanks) drops dead months before their wedding. In a bizarre but incredibly endearing effort to honor their love and distract herself from her own grief, she sets about trying to posthumously marry him.

This week marks the arrival of "Twisters" (read /Film's review), a sequel arriving nearly three decades after the original blockbuster hit "Twister." Because of how much time has elapsed between films, the cast for "Twisters" is entirely different. Although "Twisters," like its predecessor, boasts plenty of flashy special effects to create the sensation of powerful tornadoes popping up throughout Oklahoma as it tracks different groups of storm chasers trying to wrangle these bouts of Mother Nature's anger, the film doesn't quite live up to the secret weapon that "Twister" had: surprisingly committed character actors delivering better-than-needed supporting performances. But character actors popping up to steal the show in big-budget blockbusters isn't unique to "Twister" or its sequel, so let's rank the 10 best blockbuster performances by character actors.

His love for rock bands landed him lucrative interviews with such hot groups as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin and the Eagles.
His background in journalism led him to go undercover as a high school student to write a book about the experience of Southern California teenagers that would later become the film “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” (1982), which he also wrote the screenplay for. He made his directorial debut seven...

A Family Affair is Netflix’s latest rom-com directed by Richard Lagravenese from a screenplay by Carrie Solomon. The Netflix film follows the story of Zara, a young woman with aspirations of becoming a film producer, but currently, she works as an assistant for a self-obsessed and childish movie star, Chris Cole. While Zara hates her job and boss, she still tolerates them, but things get worse when she finds out that her mother and boss are romantically involved. A Family Affair has an amazing cast, including Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, Joey King, and Kathy Bates. Get a contract wrong for a movie, and a studio might just end up paying the price a little further down the line…
A word to the wise: when entering into a pact with Tommy Lee Jones, make sure your contract is watertight. Because Mr Jones – he who will not sanction your buffoonery nor crack a smile at your Academy Award presentation skit – will happily take advantage of a typo or poorly-drafted phrase in your written agreement.
Mr Jones claims he took a lower salary to star in 2007’s Oscar-winning No Country For Old Men due to the provision of generous box office bonuses should the film prove a financial success. Directors Joel and Ethan Coen and producer Scott Rudin came to similar agreements – although it was a bit of a gamble on all their parts. You see, the parties would only receive their full and substantial bonuses when either...

As consumers become pickier, ‘chasing the zeitgeist’ of changing buyer and audience tastes is fruitless, said Jeff Deutchman, president of acquisitions and production at US distributor Neon.
He was talking at a panel at the Mediterrane Film Festival in Malta this week, with Hal Sadoff, CEO of Dark Castle Entertainment, Gabor Greiner, COO of Berlin-based Films Boutique and Lamia Belkaied Guiga, Tunisian film critic and teacher at the Higher School of Audiovisual and Cinema Carthage University.
Deutchman cited several factors he takes into consideration when looking at projects. “A name brand director always helps, so does an actor who doesn’t work very often,...

To date, there are 24 distinguished individuals (living and deceased) who have won competitive Oscar, Emmy and Tony Awards. The Triple Crown of Acting, as it’s known — see the list below. And there’s no horsing around.
Glenda Jackson became the most recent person to join the club when she received the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play in for “Three Tall Women” in 2018.
While the recent 77th Tony Awards didn’t produce another Triple Crown Acting champion (there was no Tony-less Oscar and Emmy winner in contention), it is possible that some unsuspecting thespian was put on course to becoming the 25th name on the list above. And so the awards plot thickens.

I’ll appropriately start with Sarah Paulson, who accepted the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for “Appropriate.” (It marked her first Tony nomination.

As distributors develop a more robust production arm, it means taking “fewer chances” with acquisitions, says Jeff Deutchman, president of acquisitions and production at Neon.
Speaking at an industry panel on film circulation at the sophomore edition of the Mediterrane Film Festival, the American executive said, “Because Neon and some of our competitors are producing films, by the time we go to festivals like Sundance or Cannes, our slate is 60-70% formed. When we were purely an acquisitions company and relied entirely on festivals to populate our slates, we could take more chances.”
Deutchman added that making an event out of film releases is no longer a requirement only for big Hollywood productions, with independent films also demanding an event component to attract scarcer audiences to cinemas.
“Fewer films are working theatrically. Consumers are pickier and independent films have to be an event. I don’t have an actual checklist...
