- Suffered a stroke in 1995, which initially affected his speech, although he made a full recovery after a year and presented other sports-related programmes such as "Dickie Davies' Sporting Heroes".
- Following World of Sport's demise in the 1980s, Davies was still seen as an occasional presenter of such annual sporting events as the FA Cup, while also branching into gameshows with a sporting theme. More recently, he has worked as a DJ for the radio station, Classic FM.
