A trickle is becoming a flood for Bluesky, the social media company that has seen spectacular growth since the presidential election. On Tuesday, the microblogging platform hit 20 million users, after averaging 1 million new users per day over the past five days.
According to a Nov. 13 post by Bluesky CEO Jay Graber, the site had 6 million users in late August, nearly 11 million in late October and hit 15 million users on Nov. 15. It added another 5 million users in just five days, with the explosive growth seen since Nov. 5, the day of the election, accelerating.
Bluesky has been one of the main beneficiaries of millions of users leaving Elon Musk’s X, as the site formerly known as Twitter descends into a mess of bots, extreme content, crypto scams, ads, pornography, racism, transphobia and misinformation.

“We’re excited to welcome everyone looking for a better social media experience,” Bluesky CEO Jay Graber told CNBC in a statement. Find out more about what it is!
Lots of celebrities are also setting up accounts on Bluesky now as well, and there are over 18.5 million users and counting.

Call it a blue wave. A host of actors, directors, musicians, journalists and other prominent people are dumping X (formerly Twitter) and flocking to social media platform Bluesky.
In the past week, an increasing number of bold-faced names have announced that they plan to post less on X, or leave the platform altogether, citing myriad issues with the social media company, including far right content, hate speech, transphobia, racism, harassment, pornography, crypto scams, bots and the political views of owner Elon Musk, the billionaire oligarch who is a vocal supporter and financial backer of Donald Trump.
Musk’s ownership of X and his updates to content moderation on the platform have been pushing brands and media groups closer and closer to the exit. This week, The Guardian media group announced that it will stop posting on X, describing the site as a “toxic media platform.” On Nov. 4, the Berlin Film...

Where Are They Now? Checking in on Former Child Stars - Main Image
Being a celebrity is no joke, and while some adults have problems with handling wealth and fame, several child stars had to deal with so much pressure at a much earlier age.
Child actors have been known to have very tough lives outside of the lighthearted shows they’ve been on, and their transition to adulthood is usually paved with all kinds of mistakes made public because of their status.
Not everyone manages to make the peaceful transition from child actor to just actor, and we take a look at the status of some promising young talents from before and where they ended up today.

The United States election happened yesterday, and former President Donald Trump appears to have won both the Electoral College and the popular vote. While many at the Walt Disney Company will not be happy about this, there is an upside. They can save money on a new animatronic.
If Trump takes office again, Disney can update the speech and move the animatronic back to the center stage where the current President sits.
This time the animatronic will look like Trump and not like Hillary Clinton as it did for long time when it was originally added.
Funny story about that. The rumor is that Disney was so convinced Clinton would win they already started building her animatronic ahead of the election.
When she lost, they allegedly repurposed her animatronic for Trump until one that looked like him could be built. If you see the images, it does indeed appear to be the case.

“Weird Al” Yankovic promises that his show at Madison Square Garden next year will be a lot funnier than Tony Hinchcliffe’s disastrously racist roast comedy set during the Donald Trump rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, which isn’t exactly a high bar — 12 minutes of microphone feedback would be funnier than Hinchcliffe’s “comedy.”
There has never been a better example of how a comedian can succeed without appealing to the lowest common denominator than the decades-long superstardom of Weird Al, America’s most beloved, kind and clean parody artist of all time. Weird Al doesn’t swear, he doesn’t mock and he always secures explicit permission from the A-list musicians whose hit singles he turns into classic parody songs that often supersede the original in terms of cultural impact.

The Linda Lindas broke out in 2021, four teenage/pre-teen rockers making the world a less fallen place with every buzzsaw riff they struck. The band went viral that year with their song “Racist, Sexist Boy,” a grunge-punk scorcher inspired by anti-Asian taunts their drummer had been subjected to on the school playground. The band had already been playing for a couple years (including opening a show for feminist-punk icons Bikini Kill that inspired Amy Poehler to include one of their songs in her movie Moxie). But “Racist, Sexist Boy” made...

Dav Pilkey’s Dog Man is heading to the big screen for his first movie, arriving in early 2025 – and here’s the first trailer.
Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, written by Nicholas Stoller and directed by David Soren, is one of the funniest, most delightful animated films of recent years. It even boasts a brilliant theme song by Weird Al Yankovic. The brief clad superhero ought to have had many more big screen adventures, but it wasn’t to be, although a short lived television series is still available to watch on Netflix.
Back in 2020, we heard that author Dav Pilkey’s other hit series Dog Man was heading to the big screen courtesy of Dreamworks Animation. The series consists of 12 books, which have sold over 60 million copies.
The synopsis for the film reads as follows:

Here’s one cake that didn’t get left out too long in the rain: the eternal pop pastry that is “MacArthur Park.” The song’s epic length and unusual structure haven’t kept it from turning into a decades-spanning perennial, one that is just finding yet another new life as a result of its extensive use in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which scores a full-on movie-musical climax with actor-singer Richard Harris’ original 1968 version before switching to Donna Summer’s disco remake for the end credits.
Jimmy Webb is one of the indisputably greatest songwriters of all time, known for undying classics like “Wichita Lineman,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Galveston” and “Highwayman.” “MacArthur Park” is undoubtedly a more polarizing song than those others, but more music fans than not will break into a grin upon hearing the start of a seven-minute, suite-like epic that likens a failed romance to...

Plot: A woman (Amy Adams) who gave up her career as a stay-at-home mom begins to think she’s turning into a dog.
Review: I don’t know why, but when I first heard the premise for Nightbitch, I assumed it was going to be a horror movie. I’m definitely not the only one, as if you Google the film, it’s still classified as horror, and the posters make it look like dark, edgy fare. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that Nightbitch, despite its provocative title, is actually a sweet tribute to motherhood and the pressures therein, similar to Jason Reitman’s Tully.
It’s a good little movie, with Amy Adams getting her best role in a couple of years as the increasingly harried and unnamed protagonist (she’s credited only as mother). Once a noted bohemian artist, her days mostly consist of caring for her toddler son,...

Who hasn’t wanted to turn into a snarling, free-wheeling beast when the pressures of domestic life — hell, of life in general — get too much? Women have transformed into beasts throughout mythological history, but that wasn’t always a matter of choice. In Rachel Yoder’s bestselling 2021 novel, “Nightbitch,” that line is a bit fuzzier. Does our heroine become a dog because she wants to or because she has to?
That’s just one of the questions at the heart of filmmaker Marielle Heller’s latest film, which adapts Yoder’s story to the big screen. Like her breakout hit “The Diary of a Teenage Girl,” her fact-based grifter tale “Can You Ever Forgive Me?,” and her deep-feeling Mr. Rogers-centric feature “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” Heller’s latest explores the different facets of being a very real person in a very tough world. Sometimes that includes turning into a dog.

Nina West can thank a phone call from friend Zelda Williams for her biggest acting opportunity to date.
“Zelda Williams calls. ‘My friend has you on their vision board for this movie. Would you be Ok if I introduced you?’” recalls West, the drag queen who is also known as Andrew Levitt.
Their mutual friend was Tina Romero, a filmmaker and daughter of late zombie maestro George A. Romero, the revered Night of the Living Dead director.
The younger Romero wrote West a note, recalling how before her father’s death in 2017, she received his blessing on her own project, a movie called Queens of the Dead. The horror-comedy centers on drag queens and club kids battling the undead during an outbreak at a drag show in Brooklyn. Would West want to be a part of the movie?

Greg Kihn, who scored hits in the 1980s with the tunes “Jeopardy” and “The Breakup Song (They Don’t Write ‘Em),” passed away Tuesday (August 13th) at 75 years old after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. His death was announced by his family.
Kihn was born in Baltimore but made his name in music after moving to San Francisco, where he formed the Greg Kihn Band. A couple years later, the Greg Kihn Band released their biggest hit with “Jeopardy” from the 1983 album Kihnspiracy. The tune soared to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, only prevented from the top spot by Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.”

Has one word ever decided an election?
It’s possible we’re about to find out. The word in question is “weird” — a term even a 5-year-old could understand, and one that’s proving extraordinarily effective in Kamala Harris’ bid to defeat Donald Trump in November.

It’s possible we’re about to find out. The word in question is “weird” — a term even a 5-year-old could understand, and one that’s proving extraordinarily effective in Kamala Harris’ bid to defeat Donald Trump in November.

Want to travel through time with Reggie Watts? His new comedy special, Never Mind, dropping Saturday on the Veeps streaming service, takes you on a musical Tardis back to the 1990s. Watts’ sonic journey, from the Pov of the late 20th century, marvels at the dream of instant delivery, how expensive laser printers are and just how much he’s looking forward to Windows 98.
Watts recently talked to me about the new special, his comedy heroes and the perks of hanging with James Corden. Not surprisingly, he revealed that he preferred meeting Dolly Parton to Chevy Chase.
@veepsofficial
“I love the idea of time travel. And I thought that the ‘90s were an interesting time because it was a transition into the modern internet. And I think it’s funny to set (my special) in another time period.”

In decades past, “Weird Al” Yankovic would release new albums parodying the most ubiquitous pop hits released since, well, his last album. But as our collective attention span becomes increasingly frenzied, who’s got the time for a dozen song send-ups?
Fear not, song parody fans — ”Weird Al” has a solution. Rather than a new collection of goofs, the polka parodist is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of his #1 album Mandatory Fun with a single song that combines takeoffs on a dozen hits from the past decade.

“Polkamania!” gives the “Weird Al” treatment to recent hits by Billie Eilish, Adele, Miley Cyrus, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Cardi B. and Megan Thee Stallion, Ariana Grande and, of course, Taylor Swift.

“Weird Al” Yankovic has five Grammys, an Emmy, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the first comedy album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. He’s a living pop culture legend — and he’s probably the only such artist who could get generations of fans excited by releasing a polka. But here were are in the year 2024, “Weird Al” is back with “Polkamania,” and we couldn’t be more pumped to get down with the oom-pah-pah.
“Polkamania” arrives to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Mandatory Fun, “Weird Al’s” last album and his only No. 1 record. The mashup marks his first polka medley since he contributed “The Hamilton Polka” to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamildrop” series in 2018, and his first to feature songs from different artists since Mandatory Fun’s “Now That’s What I Call Polka.”

Ya know that feeling when you watch something dumb, and even though you know it’s stupid, you can’t help but laugh and enjoy yourself? The 1980s are full of comedies like that. Yeah, we know they’re dumb and not especially clever, but whatever, man, every now and then, you’re in a bad mood, and you want to turn your brain off. That’s why they made seven Police Academy movies. No one thought they were good, but we watched them anyway because they were stupid in a pleasing way.
This brings me to this rare comedy-focused episode of The Best Movie You Never Saw, about a movie I loved as a kid that doesn’t super hold up forty years later, but it is still kinda fun – Johnny Dangerously. The same year he was cast to play the iconic character Kramer on the sitcom Seinfeld, Michael Richards could also be seen on the big screen in the comedy Uhf – which was a financial disappointment at the time of its release in the summer of 1989, but has gone on to gather a huge cult following over the years. Musician “Weird Al” Yankovic plays the lead role of George Newman, who is put in charge of the Uhf television channel Channel 62, with Richards in the supporting role of janitor-turned-host Stanley Spadowski… and for a while, it looked like Richards would be playing Stanley while dealing with a case of Bell’s palsy.
As Richards writes in his memoir Entrances and Exits, “Before the Seinfeld pilot, I star in three pilots: Herndon (1983), Help (1984), and Slickers (1985). All three are offered to me. The second pilot, Help, is retooled and called Marblehead Manor, and...

From Whitney Houston to Elvis, there is no shortage of iconic singers who inspire sweeping films that dramatize their life stories. No matter the genre, cinematic features have captured the careers of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley to country singer Jonny Cash. Most recently, Back to Black (2024) launched in theaters to capture the life and musical career of Amy Winehouse.
Still other films in the works will add to the canon of singer biography movies, like Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown and nephew to Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his uncle the late Michael Jackson in Michael.
We’ve compiled a list of music-centric biopics available to stream should the urge overcome viewers.

"Teen Titans Go!" is a bit of a controversial cartoon among fans, as it is a much more comedic, kid-friendly version of the 2003 "Teen Titans" cartoon (which was darker and more anime-inspired). Some fans see "Teen Titans Go!" as representative of the uber-commercialization of art, a cash-grab of a show with none of the heart of the original. Of course, to think that would be to ignore one of the most subversive, hilarious, and most of all, bizarre superhero animated shows to date.
Then there's the movie, which gave us some of the best moments in a DC film (like Robin enthusiastically pushing Thomas and Martha Wayne into Crime Alley so Batman can exist), but also the TV show itself which stands alongside "Regular Show" and "Flapjack" as often breaking Cartoon Network's "no weird" rule. There are episodes where Robin teaches the Titans about equity, pyramid schemes, and even the IRS.

Do you like the Stonecutters song? How about "See My Vest"? Were you impressed when Bart Simpson and Michael Jackson sang a birthday song to Lisa? How do you feel about the celebrity-laced barn-burner "We're Sending Out Love Down the Well"? Do you like the stage musicals of "Checking In," or "Stop the Planet of the Apes! I Want to Get Off!"? I'm personally fond of the song about Spirngfield's brothel, "Spring in Springfield," a throwback to bawdy farces of the 1930s. And who could forget when Lyle Lanley led the entire town in a musical number about a monorail? Or when Homer, Apu, Seymour Skinner, and Barney formed a barbershop quartet to perform "Baby on Board"?
Point being "The Simpsons" has featured many, many original songs in its 850-year tenure on television, and that doesn't even count the hit record "The Simpsons Sing the Blues" from 1990. Many of the...

The fan-favorite Robert Smigel puppet from Late Night with Conan O’Brien has been forging ahead with solo projects for years — including a sitcom with Jack McBrayer, appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and most recently, a performance taped in January live at the San Francisco Sketchfest.
The live show brought back Triumph’s 2020 quiz show podcast Let’s Make a Poop with Triumph roasting a panel of celebs and leading them through a game of “Poopardy!”.
The full show dropped on YouTube this week. O’Brien has already boosted the special for his hound friend via Twitter/X, and there’s a lot to love here.
Among the highlights: Triumph sings fake Weird Al songs to Weird Al, spars with Rob Schneider over his political leanings,...

Robert Smigel’s Triumph the Insult Comic Dog somehow found a way to add another goofy layer to “Weird Al” Yankovic’s iconic shtick. Yankovic was one of Triumph’s guests at his recent “Let’s Make a Poop!” live shows at Sf Sketchfest (now available to watch in full online), and to honor the pop parody king, Triumph asked if he could perform some of his favorite Weird Al spoofs — only he delivered some hilariously dumb, half-baked ones Yankovic definitely never wrote (though there was something about them that...

Peter Farrelly’s Ricky Stanicky concerns a trio of best friends who create an imaginary person to blame for their misdeeds. As the years go by, Dean (Zac Efron), Jt (Andrew Santino), and Wes (Jermaine Fowler) continue using “Ricky” as an excuse any time they want to skip, say, a family gathering or sneak out on a boys’ weekend. In such moments, they simply tell their significant others that Ricky really needs them right now.
That’s a solid enough setup for a film, a kind of coming-of-middle-age comedy in the vein of Jeff Tomsic’s Tag, where the characters’ commitment to a childhood tradition ends up jeopardizing their adult lives in the process. But where the antics of Tag’s characters effectively captured the stupid joy of acting like your younger self while hanging out with your oldest friends, Ricky Stanicky is stupid in a much less joyful way.

It was announced all the way back in 2022 that Paramount was going to be remaking "Naked Gun" with Liam Neeson as the star. There was little movement on the project in terms of additional cast members or a projected release window throughout all of 2023, leading many to believe the film had been scrapped or entered a new circle of Hollywood production hell. While many view the "Naked Gun" films as sacred comedy texts that dare not be remade, it's happening, and there's a pretty incredible team behind it. The "Naked Gun" films famously changed the trajectory of star Leslie Nielsen's career, so perhaps the new film could do the same for the gruff, action antics of Neeson. We're still quite a ways away from the release of the film, so here's everything you need to know about the upcoming remake.

The 1970's was an era of extravagant hair dos and fashion senses that will test the contrast option on your television settings! It was also the time of the Kung Fu Boom and therefore the inevitable attempt of Hong Kong studios to attempt to cash in. Long before Jackie Chan made his first crack at international stardom, we got “Slaughter in San Francisco” aka “Yellow Faced Tiger” with Wong Tao in the lead and Lo Wei at the helm. Throw in Chuck Norris as the bad guy with the incredible chest hair and you have a movie that is pure 1974, released by Eureka Entertainment in their latest addition to their collection.
