In the name of all that is blasphemous, satanic and unholy, what in Satan’s asshole did I just watch?
Mark Of The Witch is an ambitious mess of hackneyed gimmicks that might have been salvageable with a proper budget, not just writer/director Jason Bognacki’s can-do attitude. I’m all for filmmakers going rogue and shooting original content, but only within their pre-determined means. Bognacki’s style is marred by atrocious CGI and incoherent storytelling, all of which try to skirt by on the presumption that arthouse pretension trumps any semblance of a worthwhile narrative. And you know what? Maybe it would have without all the fluctuating audio levels, fish-eye lensing and inexcusable animated misfires.
Maybe.
Bognacki opens on robed cultists (presumably witches) who are holding a baby, before transitioning into an overhead shot of a birthday cake that reads the name “Jordyn” (Paulie Rojas). As the happy post-teen celebrates another year,...

There’s a joke in Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, the under-seen but superlative comedy about the making of a fictional eighties horror programme, that is too good not to repeat at any given opportunity. In it, the show’s producer, played by Richard Ayoade, claims that due to episodes running far too short, any scene without dialogue was considered for slow motion. Given its own brief running time of just eighty minutes and its predilection for the special effect, one wonders if Mark of the Witch was produced under a similar ethos.
Mark of the Witch portrays Jordyn (Ana Paula Redding), a young woman who keeps having weird and wacky experiences of a not entirely pleasant nature. Turns out, she’s being harassed/possessed by a demonic presence. There’s not...

From the very first frame, writer/director Jason Bagnacki’s neo-giallo “Another” sets a dark mood and an atmosphere fraught with tension. When you start your movie with a bunch of creepy dudes in black robes performing some sort of occult ritual on a baby in a cave, this sort of thing is bound to happen. Spooky imagery, slow motion shots, ominous tones, and many more tools of the trade pile layer upon layer of pressure on top of you as you watch. One scene even slows and a well-known pop song plays ever so slightly just in order to disconcert you in a new and interesting way. The baby in question is Jordyn, and when she hits 18 years old, played as an adult by Ana Paula Redding, she learns a hideous secret about her past, her bloodline, and her family. This is all kicked off when her Aunt Ruth...

When we last chatted with acclaimed photographer, filmmaker and musician Jason Bognacki (check out the interview here), he was in the process of expanding his haunting short film Another to feature length. The supernatural horror short was one of several stylish, sexy and often intensely disturbing films Bognacki is releasing through his production company Full Frame Features, along with his acclaimed mini-feature The Red Door. Another stars Paulie Rojas (The Last Resort) as a young woman who must fight for possession of her soul after learning of her demonic heritage. She co-stars with Maria Olsen (Paranormal Activity 3), Nancy Wolfe (Helter Skelter) and Michael St. Michaels (The Video Dead). A release date has not yet been announced, but the new trailer is amazing, so I'm hoping we won't have to wait much longer. ...

Although Way Down In Chinatown officially wrapped its whirlwind shoot last weekend, production team Eric Michael Kochmer, Jonathan Haloosim (22Mm Productions) and the MOnsterworks66 duo, Angel Corbin and Maria Olsen, are taking time out to official welcome the multi-talented Ashli Haynes to the cast.
Haynes plays the alluring yet tainted Annie Loraine, who may well turn out to be far more than either Victor or Jessica Mitchum – played respectively by Justin Dray and Stephanie Sanditz – can handle. She will also share screen time with Lisa Loring and Nancy Wolfe, of The Addams Family and Helter Skelter fame respectively, as well as, among others, Kochmer, Corbin and Olsen.
Haynes is a stranger to neither stage nor screen and has known from the young age of 3 that she was destined to be a performer. At 10, she found herself in ‘The Object of My Affection’, starring Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd.

Angel Corbin is having a busy – and highly productive – week. As if a Hollywood premiere and an appearance at PitchFest wasn’t enough, this incredibly busy actress/producer has also just landed a pivotal supporting role in Eric Michael Kochmer’s Lynchian noir feature Way Down in Chinatown.
