The next Battlefield game is around the corner, confirms Mikael Karnell, the lead designer at EA, who is currently working on the next big Battlefield game. The game is set in a modern setting away from the world of World Wars 1 and 2.

This modern setting can find its roots in Battlefield 3 & 4. However, the game will also revive one feature butchered by the latest Battlefield 2042, released back in 2021.

There’s no doubt that the Battlefield franchise has gone through various changes since its initial release back in 2002. As the long-running competitor to Call of Duty, Battlefield managed to make a name for itself thanks to its embrace of realism in the gameplay.
Unfortunately, the last couple of years have proven to be a nightmare for the franchise. The recent entries in the franchise have met with less than stellar feedback.
However, EA could still turn the ship around and bring back the series to its glory days by perhaps dropping a Battlefield remaster, which features what made it famous in the first place: destructible environments.
Battlefield Needs a Remaster With Destructible Environments
Environmental destruction has been a big talking point in the gaming world after the release of The Finals, as it served as a reminder of how epic destructible environments can prove to be in video games.

There’s no doubt that the Battlefield franchise has gone through tons of changes since the first game was released way back in 2002. As the competitor to Call of Duty, the franchise has managed to stand on its own. However, the recent entries in the franchise haven’t quite hit the mark.
After the disappointing start of 2042, many players had lost faith in Electronic Arts (EA) and believed that the franchise was done entirely for. However, EA is beginning to up the heat around the next Battlefield, with the company’s CEO bragging that it’s one of the most ambitious projects to date.
Battlefield 7 is One of the Most Ambitious Games in EA’s History
During EA’s latest earnings report, the company gave a couple more details about the Battlefield franchise, the next installment that’s being developed at Dice, and other supportive studios like Motive and Ripple Effect.

While the Battlefield series lost its charm with its 2021 release, that doesn’t mean players have forgotten what it gave to the military shooter genre. One of the series spin-offs, Bad Company, gained a cult following after the release and it still feels like the franchise should’ve been concluded as a trilogy.
Maybe that’s why the conversations for it are still alive, as some fans were recently seen debating and going nostalgic over the spin-off. The first game was released in 2008 that also made use of the studio-developed engine Frostbite. It gave a new definition to destructible environments.

Electronic Arts (EA) is reportedly developing a strategy to incorporate advertisements into their Aaa-rated games. During EA’s recent earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson expressed that having in-game advertisements in Aaa Titles has a very huge growth rate opportunity for the company. The main decisive point of this statement is the introduction of advertisements into games that users have already purchased.
The concept of in-game ads isn’t new, the challenge lies in moderating them to avoid disrupting gameplay. EA has been testing ad placements in games such as UFC 4, Need for Speed Carbon, and Battlefield 2142 which they faced some backlash from fans.

Following a challenging week for the industry, which saw Xbox close four more studios—two of them were Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks—Electronic Arts has made an unusual announcement about the use of AI in game development in titles like Battlefield. This statement suggests that, possibly, many developers will be willing to use AI to accelerate development times and make the work easier.
The news was first reported by Video Game Chronicle; in the X post of the article, the reception was not good at all. Many users are attacking Andrew Wilson for trying to make use of AI. The majority of players did not like Wilson’s words.

With Battlefield 2042 in its final season and EA Motive joining Criterion Games, Dice, and Ripple Effect for the development of the next game, Electronic Arts is in full swing. The company’s boss, Andrew Wilson, confirmed what lies ahead. Fans will be happy to know that EA is prioritizing the military shooter’s development.
However, they aren’t likely to rush it. The last game in the franchise is not on crutches anymore after recurring updates sent in by developers throughout the years. Upon its release, the game saw a barrage of performance issues and bugs initially that repelled the users back in the first place. EA wouldn’t want to see that again for sure.
It’s About the Overall Long-Term Well-Being of Battlefield Battlefield 2042 was poorly received by the fans initially.
EA’s latest earnings call is out, and the company confirms they are having a good time amid the off-market conditions.

Apex Legends developer Respawn has had its Star Wars first-person shooter cancelled, as publisher EA makes huge job cuts across its studios.
If anything, 2024 is beginning to look like an even more depressing year for the videogame industry, as the number of job losses continues.
Electronic Arts is the latest company to announce major cuts, with the publishing giant stating that it’s to cut some 670 roles – equating to roughly five percent of its staff.
Numerous studios and projects have been affected by these cuts. Among them is Respawn Entertainment, which was working on a first-person shooter set in the Star Wars universe. According to Vgc, that project has been cancelled – it’s not clear whether this was the Mandalorian title rumoured a matter of weeks ago, or something separate.
Given just how well-received Respawn’s other games have been though – not least the Star Wars Jedi titles – the cancellation is particularly surprising.

Electronic Arts, which makes such games as Madden NFL and Apex Legends, said today that it plans to lay off five percent of its employees and will discontinue work on several games.
The announcement continues the ongoing downsizing in the gaming and tech space, a development that has seen thousands of jobs lost.
EA said the layoffs are part of a broader restructuring aimed at supporting “strategic priorities and growth initiatives,” according to a Tuesday securities filing. EA said in that document that it also plans to reduce its office space footprint.
Last year, EA sliced 800 employees, while Epic Games cut 830 jobs in September. In January, Tencent’s Riot Games said it would lay off 11% of its workforce and Microsoft said it would cull 1,900 jobs from its Activision Blizzard and Xbox gaming divisions.
On Tuesday, Sony said on Tuesday it would cut 8% of its global workforce, amounting to around 900 jobs.

Video game publishing giant Electronic Arts is the latest gaming company to slash its workforce.
The company announced the restructuring plan Wednesday, telling employees that it would be shedding about 5 percent of its workforce, or more than 650 jobs.
“While not every team will be impacted, this is the hardest part of these changes, and we have deeply considered every option to try and limit impacts to our teams,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson wrote in a memo to staff.
“Given how and where we are working, we are continuing to optimize our global real estate footprint to best support our business,” Wilson added. “We are also sunsetting games and moving away from development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry. San Francisco, July 27 (Ians) Video game developer CD Projekt Red (Cdpr), who developed franchises like The Witcher and Cyberpunk, has announced to lay off nearly 9 per cent of its workforce, or around 100 people.

Amid rumors about future M&a involving the company, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson saw his fiscal 2023 compensation package rise slightly to $20.7 million.
That’s up from $19.9 million in fiscal 2022, but still down significantly from the more than $39 million he earned in 2021 (that year, shareholders voted no on the company’s “say on pay” rule, leading to more modest compensation packages).
Other top EA execs also saw modest pay bumps, with CFO Chris Suh earning a package worth $9.1 million, up from $8.2 million a year ago, and COO Laura Miele earning $10.8 million, up from $10.4 million.
The company disclosed the pay packages in its annual proxy filing.
Suh is stepping down from the company at the end of the month, with Stuart Canfield set to replace him as CFO. The company also announced a reorganization under two divisions: EA Entertainment and EA Sports. As part of the reorg, Miele will become president of EA entertainment,...

In the aftermath of the shock ouster of NBC Universal’s CEO, industry executives present a tale of two Jeff Shells. To some, Shell’s acknowledgment that he was departing because of “an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company” came as a bolt from the blue. To others, not so much.
“I’m totally flabbergasted,” says an executive who says he was close to Shell. “Jeff was supposed to be the buttoned-up guy.” Asked if he had suspicions of improper conduct, a former NBCU executive says, “No, not at all. Not even a whiff. Not even an inkling.” Another, though not a fan of Shell, says, “I’ve never seen any of that [kind of behavior]. Never. I’ve never even seen him be flirtatious.”
A different portrait emerges from other NBCU sources. Shell “always had a crush on someone,” says one (female) former insider. “I knew he had crushes and said inappropriate things.

San Francisco, March 30 (Ians) Popular video game company Electronic Arts (EA) is laying off around 6 per cent of its workforce amid global macro-economic uncertainties.
According to reports, EA had about 13,000 employees last year, which means a 6 per cent cut could cut around 780 jobs.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson told employees in a blog post that as the company drives greater focus across its portfolio, “we are moving away from projects that do not contribute to our strategy, reviewing our real estate footprint, and restructuring some of our teams”.

Electronic Arts will lay off 6 percent of its workforce, or close to 800 jobs, the video game publisher disclosed Wednesday.
This comes as part of the company’s restructuring plan, which will also include office space reductions and portfolio rationalization. In total, Electronic Arts estimates it will incur about $170 million to $200 million in charges related to the plan.
These actions are expected to be completed by Sept. 30, 2023.
In an open letter to employees, CEO Andrew Wilson praised the strength of the company, highlighting the momentum of EA Sports FIFA 2023, Apex Legends and The Sims.
The difficult macroeconomic environment caught up to video game company Electronic Arts in its third quarter.
Electronic Arts reported net income of 204 million, up from 66 million in the year earlier period, and total net revenue of 1.88 billion, up from 1.79 billion in the year earlier period, but below expectations of many on Wall Street.
The company reported a decline in total net bookings for the past three months, reaching 2.3 billion, down from 2.6 billion in the year-earlier period. Net bookings for the trailing 12 months also declined to reach 7.1 billion, down 1 percent year-over-year. EA cited the performance of new games, as well as lower performance in the Apex game franchise coming in lower than anticipated.
Electronic Arts has decided to cancel two games: Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile, after the two did not meet expectations and after seeing a “softer” mobile market during their launches.

Electronic Arts reported strong second-quarter earnings, while hinting at an expansion strategy that involves more interactive play and brand partnerships.
The video game company reported net income of 299 million for the second quarter, up from 294 million in the previous year. Net bookings were 1.75 billion, in line with expectations, but down from 1.85 billion a year earlier. The drop was primarily due to the timing of a game launch, according to EA.
The EA player network grew to more than 600 million active accounts at quarter end. Net revenue was 1.9 billion, up from 1.83 billion a year earlier.
Asked whether the company has seen any impact on consumers due to inflation or economic concerns, CEO Andrew Wilson said the company continues to see “extraordinary engagement” for titles such as FIFA, Apex and the Sims, even coming out of the pandemic.

Some unexpected winners at the SAG Awards could potentially shake up the Oscar race with less than a month until the show.
“On Sunday night, SAG’s top film award, best ensemble, was won by Coda, Apple’s moving dramedy about a family of four, three of whom are deaf and the fourth of whom is hearing. The cast of Coda — the first primarily deaf cast ever to win this honor — held off the casts of fellow best picture Oscar nominees Belfast, Don’t Look Up, and King Richard, as well as House of Gucci, and was very warmly received in the room.”

The Association Of Motion Picture Sound, the UK body representing more than 550 professionals in the fields of film, TV and game sound, has responded to AMPAS’s decision to remove the Best Sound Oscar from its live broadcast.
On Tuesday, it was confirmed that eight of the 23 Oscar categories would be presented before the live show on March 27, and then later rolled into the telecast.
Among them is Best Sound, which was created last year by merging the Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing prizes together.
Andrew Wilson, chair of the Association, released a statement today criticizing the move.
“Filmmakers in all categories contribute to the impact of any film, so the decision by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to move some categories outside the main event is deeply disappointing,” Wilson said. “It sends out a signal that these categories are deemed somehow less important which...

Owen Wilson made his first-ever hosting appearance on NBC’s Saturday Night Live in the season 47 premiere.
“A lot has changed since last season. The vaccine came out everywhere except Florida, and the rest of the country went back to normal for about a week and a half,” the Texas-born actor said in opening his monologue and talked about growing up as a middle child, pointing to his brothers, actors Luke Wilson and Andrew Wilson, in the audience. (Luke Wilson later joined his brother for a taped Star Trek sketch in which the duo played Jeff Bezos and his brother.)
“I am excited to be here doing something live,” Wilson said, noting that unlike with movies, “reviews will be coming in immediately. People are probably tweeting reviews right now.”

Gwyneth Paltrow does not like watching her own performances, but she does love watching Margot Tenenbaum walk off a green-and-white bus in slow motion as Nico’s “These Days” plays. It’s one of the most famous moments in Wes Anderson’s “The Royal Tenenbaums” and filming it holds a place close to Paltrow’s heart. The actress joined her “Tenenbaums” director Anderson and co-stars Alec Baldwin, Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, and Anjelica Huston this week at the Tribeca Festival to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film. The conversation led to Paltrow admitting Margot’s bus exit is perhaps the only scene in her career that she can stand to watch.
“My dad was there, and it was this very special day,” Paltrow said (via Entertainment Weekly). “I really hate, hate seeing myself in a movie ever. That’s kind of like the only scene that I can watch of myself,...

Apex Legends season 6 is on its way with a whole bunch of new content updates for the popular battle royale title. The season, which is called “Boosted,” will also introduce a new character named Rampart, who can be seen in the season 6 trailer firing and working on a new Gatling gun she calls Shiela, which could be part of her ultimate ability.
“An expert modder who made her name in underground fight clubs, Rampart talks big and has the ballistics to back it up,” reads a description of the character on the game’s website, and the trailer definitely makes it look like she’s a bit of a techy.
Season 6 will also introduce “over 100 exclusive items including Legendary skins, Apex Packs, new Holo-Sprays” as well as a crafting mechanic and a new energy Smg called Volt. The trailer also shows Bangalore firing from behind some kind of energy shield wall,...

A mobile version of Apex Legends has been rumored for quite some time now, but it seems that EA and Respawn finally have plans to bring the battle royale title to mobile devices in the near future.
In a recent call with investors, EA CEO Andrew Wilson noted that the plan is to soft launch Apex Legends for mobile devices by the end of 2020. Unfortunately, Wilson did not provide any further details regarding what a soft launch means in this instance, which devices will support the mobile version of Apex Legends, or what changes may be made to the game in order to accommodate the generally reduced capabilities of mobile devices.
Furthermore, there’s no word on whether or not the mobile version of Apex Legends will support cross-play. While it was confirmed that the recently revealed Switch port of Apex Legends (which is also set to be released before...

In just 12 short months, Apex Legends has grown from a side project, developed in secret unbeknownst by EA, to one of the publisher’s most lucrative franchises. The battle royale, which now sits just behind Epic Games’ Fortnite on the metaphorical popularity spectrum, has enjoyed exponential growth both in terms of player population and scope, with developer Respawn Entertainment having finally settled into a rhythm of delivering new content on a regular basis after what can only be described as a rocky start.
To truly reach the biggest potential audience, however, one final expansion is required. Digital juggernaut Pornhub has offered itself as a streaming partner to Germany’s Oldenburg Film Festival, a 26-year-old indie movie event known for edgy programming and quirky celebrity tributes.
The offer, extended by Pornhub vice president Corey Price, comes nearly a week after the festival announced it will forge ahead as planned for a September run. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the festival is aiming for a combination of physical and virtual screenings. The move is yet another recent sign of Pornhub’s seriousness about participating in mainstream cinema.
While the festival has a lower profile than its sisters in Berlin and Munich, it is labelled by some as Germany’s Sundance, and touts an “openness to extremes” on its website. It’s also got history with Pornhub, having premiered an original short from the company called “Her & Him” in 2019, directed by former Disney star Bella Thorne.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has proven to be something of a saving grace for EA.
The publisher, having acquired sole rights (Warner Bros.’ Lego spinoffs excluded) to make video games based on the franchise from Disney back in 2013, has delivered just three titles set in a Galaxy Far, Far Away in the seven years since. Star Wars Battlefront and its sequel, while certainly not objectively bad by any stretch of the imagination, failed to generate the level of buzz from longtime fans as had perhaps been hoped, with the inclusion of a much-requested dedicated story mode in the latter completely overshadowed by questionable monetization practices.
Following the much-publicized cancellation of ‘Project Ragtag’ and closure of Visceral Games, Respawn finally delivered the strictly single-player, story-driven experience featuring Jedi and space magic that fans have long been clamoring for, and it appears that more is almost certainly on the way.

In case you hadn’t heard, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has proven itself to be quite the hot property.
As part of a conference call with investors last week, EA CFO and CEOs Blake Jorgensen and Andrew Wilson revealed that Respawn Entertainment’s strictly single-player adventure set in a Galaxy Far, Far Away has wildly exceeded expectations. Released only last November, Padawan Cal Kestis’ personal struggle against the Galactic Empire has enticed more than 8 million would-be Jedi Masters to experience Respawn’s addition to the eternally popular sci-fi franchise, with total sales expected to reach an eye-watering 10 million by April this year.
A massive achievement for any game, but for EA, in particular, Fallen Order‘s performance serves as proof that a market for dedicated single-player titles still very much exists. The publisher has notably attracted criticism in the past for suggesting the contrary, as well as for its...

EA's CEO seems interested in a future version of The Sims that features more online options.
During a recent earnings call, EA CEO Andrew Wilson was asked if the studio has any plans on releasing a new online version of the franchise. Wilson's response was surprisingly enthusiastic and informative.
"Great question on The Sims," says Wilson. "As we think about The Sims – again, I reference the motivations of why we play the games – inspiration, escape, social interaction, creation, self-improvement, competition. Typically what The Sims has done is really focus on fulfilling the motivations and inspiration, escape, creation, self-improvement and not necessarily focus as much as on social interaction and competition."
That sounds like Wilson is shutting down the notion of a new online version of The Sims, but he ended his statement with some surprisingly more hopeful words.
"As Maxis continues to think about The Sims for a new generation,...

Following a spate of controversial and cancelled video games set in a Galaxy Far, Fary Away, it appears as if EA has finally managed to extract the full potential of the Star Wars franchise.
Well, the talented folks behind Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order have, to be exact. Respawn Entertainment, the same studio that’s currently dominating the realm of battle royale’s with Apex Legends, has cause to celebrate following the publisher’s latest earnings call. In it, CFO Blake Jorgensen reveals that EA expected Fallen Order to sell between 6-8 million copies prior to the current fiscal year’s end on March 31st.
Having already surpassed those goalposts, Jorgensen now predicts that the single-player Star Wars adventure will achieve sales in excess of 10 million by April of this year. “Respawn delivered an expertly crafted high-quality experience with outstanding gameplay that thrilled players,” says EA’s Andrew Wilson, which...

Apex Legends' success may have helped EA decide to delay the release of the next Battlefield until 2022.
In a recent earnings release, EA CEO Andrew Wilson shed a little light on the future of Apex Legends, Battlefield, and perhaps even the Titanfall series.
The story here really seems to focus on the success of Apex Legends, though. EA has confirmed that Apex Legends has attracted 70 million players thus far. While that obviously doesn't represent the number of active players, it does represent just how successful the game has been thus far and why EA is feeling pretty optimistic about the game's future.
In fact, the studio is apparently so optimistic about the game's future that Andrew Wilson has stated that Apex Legends developer Respawn will remain "hyper-focused” on the battle royale title. This also seemingly means that the studio won't soon be releasing Titanfall 3, but EA CFO...

Apex Legends has a bright future ahead of it, of that there’s no doubt.
As part of its most recent earnings call yesterday, publisher EA outlined plans for its vast library of properties going forward, as well as updating shareholders on its best-performing products over the last 12 months. In what will surely come as little surprise to anyone, Respawn’s battle royale demanded the lion’s share of attention, with EA CEO Andrew Wilson wasting no time in listing off the competitive shooter’s major achievements over the last eight months.
Besides making the headline-grabbing announcement that Apex Legends will be positioned as the company’s flagship shooter in the year ahead, Wilson also confirmed the eventual arrival of something that’s long been rumored by fans to be in the works.
Yes, we’re referencing exactly what you think. Apex‘s band of unlikely heroes are officially making...

A major new ruling could result in the return of EA's beloved Ncaa Football franchise.
A landmark ruling by the Ncaa could lead to the return of one of the most popular sports video game franchises ever created, EA's Ncaa Football series.
While this is a very complicated ruling that is still being examined in regards to its full impact, the long and short of it is that the Ncaa has finally agreed that college athletes should be allowed to profit from their names and images "in a manner consistent with the collegiate model."
It's that last bit of the ruling that leaves quite a bit of room for debate regarding how this new policy will be enforced/utilized. For now, we want to focus on what this could mean for the Ncaa Football video game franchise.
For those who don't know, EA used to release...
