Don't let the title fool you: "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" isn't the only one of her kind. The "Slayer" line goes back millennia, and when one falls, another young girl is called on by destiny. In the season 1 finale, "Prophecy Girl," Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) briefly dies but is revived. The writers took advantage of that technicality in season 2 to introduce another slayer, Kendra (Bianca Lawson) — but she met a swift end.
Enter Faith Lehane (no relation to Dennis) in season 3, played by Eliza Dushku and sharing her actress' Boston origins. Her name is a virtue, but Faith is a rebel — so much so, she bounces from ally to enemy and then back again. In an interview with "Buffy" writers and producers, they discussed how, from the beginning, Faith was meant to be a "psycho" Slayer who would be a foil for Buffy. Marti Noxon called her Buffy's "shadow self,...

Alex Rodriguez is spreading positivity in the wake of his split from ex-fiancée Jennifer Lopez. According to Australian TV presenter Belinda Russell, who works for Today Extra and is also popular on TikTok, the baseball star slid into her Instagram DMs in order to compliment her recent content. She shared the sweet alleged Dm with her co-host Richard Wilkins during the Friday, May 21 taping of the show. 'I woke up this morning, checking the socials and in my requests there was a message from Alex Rodriguez. As in A-Rod. As in J.Lo's ex," she explained. Sure enough, according to a screengrab, A.Rod had written "Great feed!!!!!" in response...

Major Australian broadcaster Nine Network was the victim of a cyberattack on Sunday that took it off air for a period of time.
Current affairs program Weekend Today was not broadcast and staff at the company were told to work from home, with production systems and email down, while the website news.com.au was also offline for a period of time. The network managed to get back on the air later that day but remained heavily disrupted.
Channel 9 entertainment editor Richard Wilkins tweeted the below screengrab while the tech issues were in full flow:
What’s happening? Well not much right now! Tech issues @Channel9 this morning… pic.twitter.com/yvHBbxdbGC
— Richard Wilkins (@RichardWilkins) March 27, 2021
According to Melbourne-based paper The Age, the attack was considered to be a form of ransomware likely created by a state-based actor, but at the time of printing no requests for ransom had been confirmed.

Australia’s Nine Entertainment was hobbled by a cyber-attack on Sunday that temporarily halted its ability to put on live programming and forced all staff to work from home. The company called in the country’s Australian Cyber Security Centre to investigate whether it was a matter of “criminal sabotage or the work of a foreign nation”.
The attack, believed to involve a sophisticated form of ransomware, began on Sunday morning and halted current affairs program Weekend Today and the 5pm new program from Sydney. Other shows were also affected and the channel has warned of continuing disruptions.

Ellen Degeneres has been in the media for all the wrong reasons recently.
Following a slew of reports that both DeGeneres and the producers behind her highly-rated talk show have not treated people working on the show in the best of ways, comes a stunning new allegation.
Neil Breen, a radio host, has opened up about his experience with the show and its host.
“When Ellen DeGeneres came to Australia to do her show in 2013, I was the executive producer of the Today show, so we partnered with them,” Breen said on his radio show, 4Bc Breakfast With Neil Breen, earlier this week.
“Originally she was going to cohost the Today show, then she was going to do this, then she was going to do that," he continued.
"The whole thing got watered down to Ellen DeGeneres would do a sit-down interview.”

The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in the cancellation of four screen industry events, halted production on Netflix’s Clickbait and two major movies and postponed shooting of two TV reality shows.
Meaa members were informed today by the Clickbait producers there would be a two week hiatus due to general health concerns, nothing specific as no one associated with the production has contracted the virus.
Matchbox Pictures and Tony Ayres Productions told the union they will continue to closely monitor the situation and then reappraise to ensure the safety of cast and crew.
Ayres and Christian White co-created the Us-set, eight-episode thriller which began shooting in Melbourne in November, directed by Brad Anderson, Emma Freeman, Ben Young and Laura Belsey. Filming was due to wrap in April.
Filming of Fremantle/Seven Network’s Australia’s Got Talent and ITV Studios Australia’s/Nine Network’s The Voice has been postponed.

Writer/artist Ian McGinty also gives readers their first glimpse at the Shadow King in the present day and get to see him tell off his employees and just be sassy. And here, we thought this debate had been put to rest. Nearly 450,000 votes were cast in the first round of HitFix's March Mayhem Heroes vs. Villains tournament and much like the real Ncaa Tournament's opening round, things stayed close to chalk. No.1 seeds Batman, The Joker, Walter White and Xena all won easily, as did Han Solo, raptor Clever Girl, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Tony Soprano. There were still upsets, though. Dorothy held off a late-charging Bella for a 13-4 shocker, while Arya Stark knocked off Veronica Mars in another 13-4 win. The biggest upset, at least in terms of seeding, was The Daleks, a No.14 seed, topping Mayor Richard Wilkins, who didn't turn into a giant serpent in time. Hannibal Lecter, a No.12 seed, was one of several performers whose first round totals exceeded expectations for their seeding. Just as things began to get all higgledy-piggledy in the second round of the Ncaa Tournament, the second round has some intriguing match-ups.

The road so far …
It wasn’t exactly easy for genre television in 2005. Well, it’s really never been easy for genre television ever in the history of television, but in 2005, a deluge of genre shows premiered and almost all of them had fallen prey to the swift axe of the television gods by the next year. Start by thinking about television now. It’s a fruitful time for horror and science fiction and fantasy. There are a multitude of genre shows, running the gamut from The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, to True Blood and The Vampire Diaries. They’re all massive hits.
Now, think of all of the shows that premiered around that time in 2005. There was Surface, and that was cancelled after ten episodes by NBC. Invasion, a well-regarded show written by Shaun Cassidy (who created one of my favorite shows, American Gothic) and that was cancelled...

Competition's a wonderful thing. It's taught to us right from the cradle. Toddlers battle it out with their siblings and with rival pipsqueaks to get noticed. Sports Day provides older kids with the opportunity to hop forward in a potato sack or carry an egg in a spoon in order to win a shiny cup. All good preparation for the real world, in which we're constantly fighting for that job/promotion/raise (delete as applicable).
In the adult world, much of competition hinges on personality. If you're likeable and popular, chances are you'll stand a better chance of grabbing the prize than Mr or Mrs Grumpyboots standing forlornly in the corner. It's a harsh fact of life that the popular ones tend to be the victors – there must be some popularity gene running through these people. Which is why this must sting for those who can be classed as the Quirky Outsider.

Dmg Radio Australia has today confirmed another rebrand of its second stations in Sydney and Melbourne as smoothfm, which will follow an easy listening “more music and less talk” format. The radio company believes it has identified a significant gap in the market for the format.
The move is another radical change of direction for the stations, which were branded as Vega Radio until March 2010.
The final set of radio ratings for the two Vega stations saw an audience share of 3.4% in Sydney and 3.7% in Melbourne.
The two stations then unsuccessfully relaunched as Classic Rock in an attempt to take on Austereo’s Triple M. However, audience share failed to improve significantly, hovering around 3.6% in both markets.
A year ago, Dmg quietly dropped the Classic Rock brand and moved to the more neutral Sydney’s 95.3 FM and Melbourne’s 91.5Fm, along with the positioning “Classic songs. Classic rock.”

Richard Wilkins has revealed that he will never have cosmetic procedures to make him look younger. The Australian television personality, who is best known for his roles on Today and Entertainment Tonight, said that he would rather grow old naturally than have Botox or undergo plastic surgery. When asked if he would consider a little cosmetic help, Wilkins told the Herald Sun: "No, no, no, no, no! I'm just growing old disgracefully. I choose to let Mother Nature take her course." It was revealed last year that Wilkins had a fling with Packed to the Rafters actress Rebecca Gibney when they were younger. Gibney said of the affair: "I was 22 and he swept me off my (more)...

Richard Wilkins has described the late Whitney Houston as "statuesque" and "beautiful". The Australian television personality, who first met Houston in 1987 at the "start of her ascent to divadom", said that he is upset by her recent death, adding that she seemed to throw her life away when she "had it all". Wilkins told Woman's Day magazine: "She was fantastic - statuesque, beautiful, everything you would expect her to be. She sang every note perfectly and gave you chills down your spine." Wilkins further revealed that he "realised things were going off the rails" for Houston when she visited Melbourne's Crown Casino in 1997. Her husband Bobby Brown was with her, and the Today entertainment editor claimed that Brown had some issue with the address of the casino, demanding the name (more)...

Snowtown star Louise Harris has slammed movie critic Richard Wilkins. The Australian actress, who won the Aacta Award for 'Best Supporting Actress' for her role in the movie on Tuesday night, said that she feels smug now because Wilkins gave the film "zero out of five stars" in a review when it first came out. When asked what she would say if she saw Wilkins now, Harris told The Advertiser: "I'd say, 'You're a w**ker, mate'. I'd say, 'Sucked in'. We got the last laugh, didn't we?" Snowtown's director Justin Kurzel, who won the 'Best Direction' Aacta, diplomatically added that Wilkins was "entitled to his opinion" (more)...

The Wiggles have revealed that they have not spoken to former Yellow Wiggle Sam Moran since he was replaced earlier this week. Moran, who joined the Australian children's entertainment group for five years after original member Greg Page had to quit due to ill health, was allegedly shocked to discover after Christmas that Page had been brought back and he was being sacked. The group was asked by Today TV presenter Richard Wilkins yesterday (January 19): "Was it news to [Sam that he was being replaced]?" Blue Wiggle Anthony Field struggled to reply at first, but then said: "Yes, it was news to him." After a pause, he then said: "I haven't spoken to him, I don't know. "I don't want to speak for a guy when I don't know how he feels. Maybe you'll have to talk to Sam to find out what he thinks. What (more)...

We were having a lovely time until I found out about a flight attendant and then it didn't go so well! Karl Stefanovic has defended his 'drunken antics' at a recent book launch. The Today presenter, who introduced his colleague Richard Wilkins's new publication Black Ties, Red Carpets, Green Rooms at an event in Sydney last Thursday night, shocked onlookers by using inappropriate language during his speech. As he got up on stage, Stefanovic told a room of guests including Wilkins's fiancée and children: "I know three things about Richard Wilkins: great bloke, big hair, massive c**k. That's all I know. I know all the press are here, yada, yada, yada - but sometimes, like Tom Cruise in that film, you just have to say, 'What the f**k. "In the '80s you were the Don Bradman of rooting - seriously bro'. Most of us in the '80s walked into a bar and thought, 'I reckon I might be a chance with that (more)...

We did it, America! While our elected representatives can barely come together on policy, we can largely agree on how we feel about them. And we think they're childish assholes. A survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press and The Washington Post released Monday showed that 72 percent of the 1,001 adults polled had negative words to describe the budget negotiations, the top winners being "ridiculous," "disgusting," "stupid" and "frustrating." Democracy is agreeing that democracy can be stupid. U.S.A.! U.S.A.!
Thinking about our members of the U.S. Congress (the awesome Rep. Gabrielle Giffords obviously excluded) brought several film and TV characters to mind who exemplify the very worst characteristics politicians can offer. Ok, so one of them turns into an enormous snakelike demon. But the rest of the villains are pretty familiar.
I'll let you decide who the real-life counterparts are to these fictional pols.

As in non-tv life, some of "How I Met Your Mother's" biggest moments coincide with weddings. None of them have involved Ted's (Josh Radner) own mysterious bride, but that might soon change.
Season 6 kicks off September 20 with "Big Days." According to CBS, the episode finds Ted and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) fighting over an attractive woman -- who just happens to be with Cindy (Rachel Bilson), Ted's failed flame who we know to be the roommate of the show's titular mother. Now its clearly too much to hope for that the new woman in question be Ted's future wife, but that doesn't mean we won't get some glimpse of her.
There are rumors that the episode features a wedding, one that won't likely occur in the series' normal chronology. And considering co-creator Craig Thomas' revelation that the premiere will include a glimpse of an important day in Ted's life,...

HollywoodNews.com: While on their press tour in Sydney for the upcoming release of “Eclipse”, Richard Wilkins of Today Australia had the opportunity to interview Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.
Stewart talked about her trip to Featherdale Wildlife Park and how she loved petting the baby dingoes so much, she might have taken one home with her. When asked about the non-stop rumors surrounding her co-star, Robert Pattinson, Stewart said “it’s funny to be one of those people because I grew up reading stuff like that,” and she believed it, though now she knows not to believe tabloids.
Most interesting about Stewart’s interview was her humbleness about playing Bella. Wilkins complimented her on her perfect portrayal of Bella and Stewart and responded by saying “anyone who loved ‘Twilight’ and was the age and is a female could have played Bella.” It’s doubtful that anyone...
