“Abbott Elementary” and “Top Gun: Maverick” received top honors at the 60th annual International Cinematographers Guild (Icg) Publicists Awards luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Friday.
The awards honor individual publicists, unit still photographers and entertainment journalists who further publicity campaigns for film and TV. Variety’s senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay and senior entertainment reporter Angelique Jackson each earned nominations from Icg.
Quinta Brunson of “Abbott Elementary” received the TV showman of the year honor, and the producers of “Top Gun: Maverick” received the honor on the film side, with Bruckheimer accepting on behalf of all four.
In her speech, Brunson had the crowd laughing as she commended the role of publicists. “I didn’t know that this award show existed…but I’m happy that it does exist, because you all do a job that is incredible, crucial and underappreciated,” Brunson said. “It’s important to have publicists who understand the vision,...

Say this for The Offer: It makes you want to see The Godfather again — and Paramount+ has complied, making the entire movie trilogy available for bingeing on the original’s 50th anniversary. (The first two are highly recommended.) This ambitious 10-part drama about the behind-the-scenes conflicts during filmmaking, with producer Albert S. Ruddy fending off meddling studio execs and menacing mobsters, isn’t quite as compelling. It suffers, like so much in the streaming world, from repetition and extreme overlength, which is ironic considering that Paramount’s bean counters (embodied by Colin Hanks in a thankless wet-blanket role) tried to shorten the all-time classic by an hour. Nicole Wilder/Paramount+ Worse, Offer’s depiction of the gangsters hounding Ruddy (Miles Teller) leans into cartoonish stereotype in a way The Godfather worked so diligently to avoid. It feels like a contest as to who can give the most irritating and...

Hollywood is a business, but, to quote a line from 1972’s The Godfather, some people take it very personal. Like the time Robert Evans, head of the studio that, in 1970, wanted to turn Mario Puzo’s gangland bestseller into a film, found a dead rat in his bed. Whoever put it there clearly didn’t want to see The Godfather onscreen. “I don’t know what the f— you’ve gotten me into, but I’m not getting killed for some gangster movie!” a spooked Evans (played with grand flair by Matthew Goode) shouts in The Offer, the 10-episode Paramount+ limited series that dramatizes the crazy real-life antics that nearly put the kibosh on one of the greatest films of all time. Nicole Wilder/Paramount+ Fifty years after it first hit theaters, it now seems inconceivable that The Godfather almost didn’t make the journey from the page to the projector.

“One Day at a Time” Season 4 has faced quite a few obstacles on its way to the screen– suffering cancelation at Netflix and month of limbo before finally getting picked up — but the highly anticipated season is finally set to premiere, against all odds, on its new home Pop TV on Tuesday.
“It was really just a celebration,” co-creator Gloria Calderon Kellett said of returning to work on Season 4 in an interview with TheWrap. “It felt like a reunion, you know, it was really just nice to see one another and have the opportunity to tell more stories about the family.”
“It’s always so unlikely that any save our show campaign’s gonna work,” added Royce. “And so when it did, it was like, I mean it was like a miracle.”

The awards were announced Friday afternoon at the Beverly Hilton by the International Cinematographers Guild Publicists.
“Joker” won the feature film award and topped the publicity teams behind Netflix’s “The Irishman,” Universal’s “Us,” Sony’s “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” Paramount’s “Rocketman” and Disney-Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame.” The Joaquin Phoenix vehicle was a smash with more than $1 billion in global box office along with receiving 11 Academy Award nominations.
The first season of Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian” took the television awards over the campaigns for “Catch 22,” “Fosse/Verdon,” “Pose,” and “Stranger Things.”
Steven Huvane of Slate PR won the Les Mason award, presented by longtime client Jennifer Aniston, who told the audience, “You really are some of the hardest working people in this town.
