Best known as co-creator and producer of Canada's internationally respected Women In the Director's Chair (WIDC) program, Carol Whiteman is a two-time Governor General's award nominee and multiple award-winner for promoting gender equity and inclusion in Canada's screen industry. Since 1996, Whiteman has worked tirelessly to advance the careers, fiction feature films, network television and digital series of a generation of women and non-binary screen writers and directors. Through WIDC, she has produced over 150 short films and is executive producer on thirteen award-winning feature films including Red Snow (2019), Dir. Marie Clements, Rustic Oracle (2019), Dir. Sonia Bonspille Boileau, Queen of the Morning Calm (2019), Dir. Gloria Kim, Dawn, Her Dad & the Tractor (2021), Dir. Shelley Thompson, With Love and a Major Organ (2023), Dir. Kim Albright, including the upcoming Celestine, Dir. Susanne Serres and Monica's News (2024), Dir. Pamela Gallant .
Carol began her career as an actor and is known for her roles in theatre productions (1987 to 2001) in Vancouver, Canada, the ff, Intersection (1994), and her Laura Petrie-inspired role of Sally in the video game, Wirehead (1995).
