The son of an English wigmaker, he began his Hollywood career in 1921.
Few actors had photogenically perfect features. Makeup often
obliterated the best facial bone structure. Westmore developed
cosmetics that would look the same under diverse lighting conditions
and with different types of film.
At his house in Beverly Hills, he built a doghouse designed as a
miniature Swiss chalet of two stories, connected by a stairway, and
complete with cornices and a shingled roof.
