- Jacques Villeret was born on February 6, 1951 in Tours, Indre-et-Loire, France. He was an actor and writer, known for Le Dîner de Cons (1998), Robert et Robert (1978) and Malevil (1981). He was married to Irina Tarassov. He died on January 28, 2005 in Evreux, Eure, France.

- On January 28th, 2005, he was taken ill while entertaining friends in his home near Evreux, Normandy; he was taken to hospital and died. He was diabetic and an alcoholic, and had had severe liver problems for some years. When once asked "how would you like to die?" he replied, "I'd like to faint".
- He played the same character, François Pignon, in the original stage production of "Le dîner de cons" in 1993.
- A pupil of Louis Seigner in the Conservatoire de Paris, he gained success playing nice, naive and funny guys (he did several one-man shows in the late seventies-early eighties), but he always said he wasn't a fun man in real life.
