The Moovy Studios LLC production in association with Lee Caplin/Picture Entertainment Corporation follows a detective in San Juan haunted by his father’s tragic death who sees parallels in the case of a murdered activist.

The cast includes Jacob Vargas, Daniel Zovatto, Lana Parrilla, Armando Riesco, and Luis Antonio Ramos. Leading Puerto Rican filmmaker Betty Kaplan, whose credits include Almost A Woman and Doña Bárbara, directs Dime Detective.

Danielle Fishel is set to direct the March 24 episode of “Lopez vs. Lopez.” Titled “Lopez vs. Cheaters,” the episode will feature Justina Machado and Gregg Sulkin as guest stars.

Per the logline, “Lopez vs. Cheaters” introduces Dr. Bell (Sulkin), a visiting veterinarian who finds Mayan (Mayan Lopez) extremely attractive. The season one finale of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History ties up all the treasure-hunting loose ends while dangling the possibility of where season two could go if the streaming service picks up the drama. Episode 10, “Treasure Protectors,” picks up the action right where episode nine ended, with Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco) having just stabbed Agent Ross (Lyndon Smith) with a sword. If there was any question left as to Coco’s (Richard Cabral) fate on FX’s Mayans M.C., the Season 4 finale confirms the beloved character’s death as he is finally laid to rest. His life, like that of others running in similar circles, was cut short due to an act of violence that could’ve easily been avoided.

But there’s no point lamenting how things could’ve been. Instead, Johnny “El Coco” Cruz was given a hero’s farewell worthy of a Marine who sacrificed for his country. In a particularly emotional scene, Coco’s best friend and brother-in-arms Gilly (Vincent “Rocco” Vargas) presented Coco’s daughter with the American flag that draped his casket.

Exclusive: If you’re a rabid fan of Mayans M.C., you may have recognized an ear — yes, an ear — of a popular actor in one of the drama’s teasers for the new season. At the Contenders Television panel for the FX series, executive producer Elgin James confirmed the ear belongs to Manny Montana, who will join the cast after playing Rio on NBC’s Good Girls.

From director Steven Soderbergh (“No Sudden Move”) and a script by David Koepp (“Jurassic Park”), “Kimi” depicts a world where Kimi, the name of a fictitious Alexa or Siri-like digital assistant, is listening and recording every moment of people’s lives. The film, which hails from New Line Cinema and HBO Max, follows an agoraphobic voice stream interpreter, Angela Childs (Zoë Kravitz), who believes to overhear a murder on a recording she analyzes. But when Childs tries to bring the recording to her employers’ attention, her concerns are pushed aside.

Warner Bros. has announced release dates for several films including DC’s “Blue Beetle,” directed by Angel Manuel Soto, which is now due Aug. 18, 2023. The superhero saga was originally set to premiere on HBO Max, but will now start its run exclusively in theaters.

Starring “Cobra Kai” actor Xolo Maridueña, “Blue Beetle” will focus on the most recent version of Blue Beetle, introduced in 2006, as the Mexican-American teen Jaime Reyes. “I have so much pride in getting to be a part of this project with Angel, someone like him,” Maridueña told Variety when he was cast. Along with “Batgirl,” it had originally been developed as an HBO Max project.

Steven Soderbergh’s original thriller Kimi, starring Zoë Kravitz (The Batman), will stream exclusively on HBO Max beginning February 10, Warner Bros. Pictures announced today.

The film from New Line Cinema and HBO Max watches as an agoraphobic Seattle tech worker uncovers evidence of a crime.

David Koepp penned the script, with Byron Bowers (No Sudden Move), Jaime Camil (Schmigadoon), Erika Christensen (Traffic), Derek DelGaudio (Derek DelGaudio’s In & Of Itself), Robin Givens (Riverdale), Charles Halford (Logan Lucky), Devin Retray (Side Effects), Jacob Vargas (The 33) and Rita Wilson (the Mamma Mia! films) rounding out the cast.

Koepp also produced alongside Soderbergh’s frequent collaborator Michael Polaire. The filmmaker’s most recent title for the streamer, the star-studded crime thriller No Sudden Move, premiered last July. His next effort for it will be Magic Mike’s Last Dance, which has him reteaming with Magic Mike star Channing Tatum.

As one of the producers of the 93rd Academy Awards, Steven Soderbergh took some big swings. Last—but certainly not least, in controversy—was the decision to switch up the order in which awards were presented, with Best Picture coming before the Lead Actor categories.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Soderbergh gave his thoughts on how that played out, noting that he had had this structure for the show in mind months before the nominations were announced.

“We talked about that in January. It’s our belief — that I think is not unfounded — that actors’ speeches tend to be more dramatic than producers’ speeches,” said Soderbergh. “And so we thought it might be fun to mix it up, especially if people didn’t know that was coming. So that was always part of the plan.”

Sons of Anarchy has been off the air for several years, but the franchise remains alive thanks to its spinoff Mayans M.C.

FX dropped the official trailer for the long-delayed Mayans M.C. Season 3 this week, and it left fans of the original series with a lot of questions.

The reason?

The footage shows Allesandro Montez (Jacob Vargas) delivering a warning to an unseen person.

"One wrong move could start a war," Montez says, before the footage switching to someone struggling after someone tries to suffocate them.

While the face is not visible, the Road Captain patch is there in the frame, seemingly alluding to Allesandro's death.

It's hard to imagine a trailer spoiling such a huge development, but it could be an interesting way to drum up interest for the third season, especially for fans of the original series who have not been keeping up to speed with the spinoff.

Peacock has unveiled a slate of original films, all of which will debut on the service in September.

The NBCU streamer, which launched nationally just over a month ago, will premiere a doc on Harry Belafonte’s brief stint hosting “The Tonight Show,” Emilio Estevez’s pic “The Public,” starring Alec Baldwin, and a doc from NFL star Malcolm Jenkins which celebrates the humanity of Black men and boys.

“The Sit-In: Harry Belafonte Hosts the Tonight Show” was supposed to launch at the Tribeca Film Festival, but soon after the festival didn’t take place, Variety caught up with the doc’s producers and director Yoruba Richen to talk about the significance of Belafonte hosting, and how it reflects on the current late night landscape.

“It says a lot about the politics of today and where we are,” Richen said. “And that late night is still dominated by white men.

Real school may be on hold, but Mr. Iglesias is not. Deadline reports the TV show will return for a second season in June.
