He sang the roles of Iago and Falstaff in conductor Arturo Toscanini's radio broadcasts of "Otello" (in 1947) and "Falstaff", (in 1950) respectively. They are considered two of Verdi's greatest operas and the broadcasts still are considered by many the finest performances of both operas in the 20th century. Both performances were later released on 45-RPM, LP, and CD.
