He retired from acting in 2016 with memory problems and is now perfectly happy being the doorman at the famous and fabulous Oxford Street department store Selfridges, which is effectively his West End debut and by the far the most glamorous job he ever had.
In a 46 year career he was 463 different people on stage and screen, including lead roles at the National Theatre, in features and the lead role in the Oscar nominated short film "Syrup".
