Daughter of Katharina Thalbach.

Left East Germany with her parents after the communist regime had stripped Wolf Biermann, a songwriter, of his citizenship (1976).

Daughter of Vladimir Weigl.

Lives in Berlin with her daughter Nellie Thalbach.

Was the costume designer's intern at the Schillertheater in Berlin, but soon became a respected stage actress there.
