Fran Drescher is best known for playing Fran Fine in the 1990s sitcom The Nanny. The famed actor developed the series and took inspiration from her own life while creating the Queens-born nanny who found herself serendipitously on the doorstep of a widowed Broadway producer needing a nanny for his three children. Over the years, Drescher has spoken at length about the process of creating Fran Fine and just how much of herself is in the character. While she took a lot of inspiration from her own life, Drescher insists there is one key difference between herself and the infamous Manhattan nanny.

In a feature — and accompanying short film — for Vanity Fair‘s annual “Hollywood Issue,” a number of Jerry Lewis’ leading ladies, female co-stars and many other aspiring, talented women allege that the so-called King of Comedy sexually harassed and, in at least one case, sexually assaulted them.
The story and film are based in part on interviews conducted by Emmy-winning Allen v. Farrow filmmakers Amy Ziering and Kirby Dick who, in 2017, began investigating Hollywood’s long history of abuse. They found that some of the most severe accusations involved Lewis.
Among those interviewed for the piece are Hope Holiday, who appeared in The Ladies Man with Lewis the year after she broke out in Billy Wilder’s The Apartment; Jill St. John, who starred opposite the comedian in Who’s Minding the Store?; Anna Maria Alberghetti, who worked with him on Cinderfella; Karen Sharpe, who played the star’s love interest in The Disorderly Orderly,...

It's always a hoot when Linda's parents visit. Unless you ask Bob, then it's a nightmare from hell.
Bob and Linda tried to squeeze their yearly visit with Gloria and Al on Bob's Burgers Season 11 Episode 8 when the elderly couple had a layover at a local airport on their way home to Florida.
Gloria and Al are your typical sitcom in-laws, with their hearing problems, difficulty with technology, and tension with their daughter's husband. And this airport meet-up gave us all of that and more.
Almost everyone married can relate to Bob and his aversion to his in-laws, but Bob's annoyance with Gloria and Al runs a bit deeper than your average Joe's.
It was sweet to find out that Bob's various problems with Linda's parents all stem from his love for his wife.
You know what they say, if you love something, let it go walking off in an airport.

Actress Fran Drescher still remembers the moment she came up with the concept for The Nanny. She was in London visiting Twiggy, her former co-star in the short-lived 1991 sitcom Princesses, and "in a very proper accent, Twiggy’s daughter said, 'Oh, Fran, my new shoes are hurting me,'" the star told Closer during her recent visit to Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family. "I said, 'Oh, honey, step on the backs of them. It breaks them in.'" The contrast between a streetsmart girl from Queens, NY, and a stiff-upper-lip Brit inspired Fran’s relationship with Mr. Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy) on The Nanny. While in London, the actress called her then-husband, producer Peter Jacobson, and said, "What do you think about a spin on The Sound of Music, only instead of Julie Andrews, I come to the door?" Fran, 60, remembers. "In a heartbeat, he said, 'That’s it!'" (Photo Credit: Getty Images) CBS agreed,...

I haven't liked anything Adam Sandler has done in years, but he clearly has legions of fans that still love everything he does, because he's consistently one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood and his stuff — while often critically reviled — makes money. Since The Ridiculous Six was apparently a huge success for Netflix, I'm guessing they're pretty pleased with the multi-picture deal they made with him not too long ago, and now we have the teaser trailer for their second collaboration: The Do-Over.
Sandler reunites with longtime friend and former SNL co-star David Spade in this action comedy, which is described like this:
The life of a bank manager is turned upside down when a friend from his past manipulates him into faking his own death and taking off on an adventure.
The Do-Over will be available on Netflix starting on May 27th.

Frank Sinatra shines in a story of police corruption that tries to say it like it is -- or like it was in 1968, just before the ratings system came in. The well-intentioned, suspenseful story is burdened by odd censor choices, Sinatra's conservative self-image, and rudely retrograde attitudes toward gays. By the mid-1960s, the notorious Hayes Code, the censorship standards begun in the 1930s, had begun to fall away. Films like Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Bonnie & Clyde, The Graduate and In the Heat of the Night started pushing the envelope in terms of “adult” content portrayed on-screen. With the advent of the MPAA rating system in November, 1968 a new era of freedom was ushered in. Filmmakers could frankly portray sex, violence, profanity and formerly taboo subject matters. While the aforementioned films are all iconic in stature, one of the key films that pushed the rating system into being is now largely forgotten.
Roderick Thorp’s 1966 novel The Detective became an instant best-seller, a mammoth (600 pages), unflinching look at Joe Leland, a weary veteran cop who finds his legal and personal mettle tested while investigating the brutal murder of a wealthy, gay department store heir.

It's the "flashy girl from Flushing!" Fran Drescher had a mini-reunion with some of her costars from "The Nanny" on Wednesday at the opening night of her Broadway production of "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella". The 57-year-old actress is playing the role of the wicked stepmother in the stage show, and her TV family came to show their support. Clad in a figure-flattering hunter green dress, the gorgeous star posed with her former leading man, Charles Shaughnessy, who played Maxwell Sheffield on the sitcom. The "Happily Divorced" star also reunited with Renee Taylor at the event, who played her on-screen mom Sylvia Fine. Don't the "mother-daughter duo" look just as fabulous as they did back then?! It's been over 20 years since audiences fell in love with Fran's hilarious New York accent and nasal tone -- we love seeing the cast together again! The show, which ran from 1993-1999, followed cosmetic saleswoman Fran Fine,...

If there was any doubt awards season was in full swing, this week’s growing list of screening events featuring lunches, dinners and receptions all aimed at luring Academy and Golden Globe voters should erase any question.
As I pointed out last week, the Academy’s “official” foreign-language screenings began on Monday night with Poland’s Ida and Hungary’s demanding but very fine White God. But that is just the beginning for both those films.
On Friday afternoon at Century City’s Craft restaurant, a private luncheon was held that drew several Oscar voters for an intimate opportunity to chow down with Ida director Pawel Pawlikowski.
White God’s filmmakers come into town next week for similar treatment with a private screening and reception aimed at those same voters. Saturday night, the terrific Swedish entry, Force Majeure, had a packed Beverly Hills screening followed by a Bouchon dinner reception...

The late great Larry Gelbart once said about his friend and colleague, the still great Carl Reiner: “Carl Reiner and my maid have a lot in common- they both abhor a vacuum.” Having spent time with Mr. Reiner, I can attest that Mr. Gelbart was spot on.
His newly released autobiography, I Remember Me, is a very entertaining and wonderful and inspiring collection of anecdotes. His third biography, following My Anecdotal Life and How Paul Robeson Saved My Life and Other Mostly Happy Stories, is a collection of funny and poignant, and extremely well-crafted stories range from friends and family, including his late wife of 65 years, Estelle (whose When Harry Met Sally iconic line “I’ll have what she’s having,” rated ahead of Humphrey Bogart’s Casablanca close “This...

A thrid poster is in for Lionsgate's Tyler Perry's Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, starring Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Lance Gross and Robbie Jones, as well as Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Williams, Renee Taylor and Brandy Norwood. I find it hysterical that Nowhere on this movie poster are signs of the cast, just Tyler Perry's name everywhere. Has anyone else had enough of this? Sure, I'm all for marketing your name, but come on already. Do we really need to know you directed a film All Of The Time? The film opens on March 29th, 2013, and is (you guessed it) produced, directed and written by Perry (I can't write that full name anymore in here or I'll get hit for spamming the search engines!)...
