House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and two dozen members of Congress assembled at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., last week for the second-annual National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance. The event was chock-a-block with Christian nationalist pastors and featured a clarion call for spiritual warfare, with members of Congress beseeching fellow Christians to “tie the hands of Satan” and to “bind the demonic forces” that are supposedly possessing America.

If anyone was trusting that Mike Johnson would cool his Christian nationalist jets now that he’s risen to Speaker of the House, that faith was misplaced. Johnson has been announced as the keynote speaker of a Dec. 5 gala of the National Association of Christian Lawmakers, hosted at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.
The Nacl is an overt Christian nationalist organization that seeks to give its “biblical worldview” the binding force of law. The gala website touts Nacl’s agenda of “abolishing abortion,” promoting “marriage between one man and one woman,...

In an October prayer call hosted by a Christian-nationalist Maga pastor, Rep. Mike Johnson was troubled that America’s wickedness was inviting God’s wrath.
Talking to pastor Jim Garlow on a broadcast of the World Prayer Network, Johnson spoke ominously of America facing a “civilizational moment.” He said, “The only question is: Is God going to allow our nation to enter a time of judgment for our collective sins? … Or is he going to give us one more chance to restore the foundations and return to Him?”
The segment was filmed Oct.

Charlie Shamp — a bearded Christian “prophet” with a jet-black pompadour — appeared as a guest on the Jim Bakker Show last week to share a heavenly vision about Republican politics. And for once, it wasn’t about Donald Trump. “We need to watch Ron DeSantis,” Shamp told the televangelist’s audience. “Because the Lord is going to use him in a powerful way.”
Shamp shared a “vision” he’d received of two palm trees —- one planted in California, the other in Florida. He’d asked, “Lord, who are these two palm trees?...

Freelancers will be hit by tax rise for the self-employed but qualifications announcement praised.
UK chancellor of the exchequer Philip Hammond’s Spring Budget is “a slap in the face” for freelancers working in the creative industries, according to one media trade union.
The most controversial aspect of the budget has been the rise in National Insurance Contributions (Nic) for self-employed workers, from the current level of 9% to 10% in 2018 and 11% in 2019 for those making a profit of more than £8,060.
The hike will apply to freelancers earning less than £43,000. The government claims that this will raise £145m a year by 2021-22.
According to Creative Skillset’s 2015 employment survey of the UK’s creative industry workforce, 43% of all workers are freelance. In the film production sector, that number rose to 89%.
Bectu estimates that 15,000 of its 40,000 members are freelance.

I've got a pretty radical collection of art prints for you to check out today from various artists. We've got a couple Star Wars prints, one for Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon, and another for Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange.
The first print for Star Wars: The Force Awakens featuring the Millennium Falcon comes from Matt Taylor. It's called “Jump Into Hyperspace,” and it was created for Bottleneck Gallery.
The other Force Awakens print was created by artist Adam Relf also for the Bottleneck Gallery. If there are any prints left for either of them, you can buy them here.
The other two art prints were created for Mondo. The Enter the Dragon piece that you can check out below was awesomely created by Jock.
Then the last piece for A Clockwork Orange was done by artist Rory Kurtz. All of the posters have a pretty spectacular flare to them.

Star Trek Beyond, Paramount Pictures’ third installment in the rebooted series, has received a poster from Mondo, executed by artist Matt Taylor to celebrate the Digital HD and Blu-ray release of the film, which came out this week.
This limited edition poster is not for sale so fans will have to look for contests or other opportunities to acquire a copy. ComicMix was provided with one, which will be auctioned off for charity at Farpoint in February 2017.
Star Trek Beyond, starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, was directed by Justin Lin and was critically acclaimed as a much needed course correction after the disastrous Star Trek Into Darkness. The $185 million production underperformed at the box office although a fourth film in the series has already been announced, with Chris Hemsworth returning as George Kirk, father to Pine’s James T, Kirk. No screenwriters, director, or other details have been released.

Like some of the best illustrations that graced the covers of fantasy novels and heavy metal albums in the ’70s and ’80s, Arik Roper's artwork is a portal to another world brimming with adventure and endless possibilities. Ahead of his appearance as a featured artist at MondoCon 2016 this weekend in Austin, TX, we caught up with Roper for a special "Meet the Artist" Q&A feature, and we also have a look at some of the eye-popping artwork he'll be bringing to this year's MondoCon.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Arik. What sparked your initial interest in being an artist?
Arik Roper: It was a natural path for me, being an artist. Both my parents were artists. I was surrounded by it and I instinctively was drawn toward it, and received a lot of encouragement.
Your art often transports people deep into the realms of fantasy and horror.

Clocking in at one hour in length, the studio is expected to cast light on “the creative process of crafting the campaign” at the heart of Infinite Warfare. Catapulting the Call of Duty series into the far-future, it’s understood that the creative team is looking to seminal war movies in the vein of Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down as inspiration.
We already know that Game of Thrones star Kit Harington will lend his likeness to the game’s chief villain, though Activision confirmed today that its collection of Hollywood talent also features Brian Bloom (The A-Team, Once Upon a Time in America), Jamie Gray Hyder (True Blood), David Harewood (Supergirl) and Jeffrey Nordling...

We're celebrating 50 brilliant UK independent bookshops. If your favourite is missing, please add it to the list below...
In Neil Gaiman’s preface to Shelf Life: Fantastic Stories Celebrating Bookstores, he describes four bookshops from his childhood. One was a travelling school shop, one a local store staffed by a helpful hippy where he’d pick up 25p Tom Disch novels, another was a bus ride away and owned by a Grinch who’d glower at schoolchildren customers, and the last was a now-defunct Soho sci-fi and fantasy treasure trove. Four individual shops run by booksellers with distinct personalities and idiosyncratic tastes. All of which made Gaiman what he is.
That’s the joy of independent bookshops. Their personalities shape those of the people who visit them. They’re not homogenous. Their stock tends to reflect their passions rather than the year's best-performing unit-shifters. And their...

In 2014, artists Kevin Tong and Tom Whalen founded Info*Rama, a site featuring infographic posters of subjects in the worlds of science, tech, and culture. Now they're teaming with Mondo and fellow artist Matt Taylor for an Info*Rama art show that pays tribute to beloved movies like Star Wars, The Avengers, Batman, and more. The show begins on June 24 at the Mondo Gallery in Austin, Texas, and the gallery has released the first three 24 x 36 inch screenprint pieces for the show, which you can see below:
That's the regular and variant edition of “The Military Forces of the Galactic Empire,” by Kevin Tong. Below, you'll find Tom Whalen's "The Batmobile."
And finally, there's "The Avengers," by Matt Taylor.
What other fan-favorite movies will get this infographic treatment at the show? We can't wait to find out.

It's almost time for a new Richard Linklater movie! To celebrate the occasion, Austin-based theater chain Alamo Drafthouse is going all-out with a new Mondo poster and a special line of beer that they'll be selling at Drafthouse theaters. The new Mondo poster comes from artist Matt Taylor and it's a rather trippy design, fitting for the film that is supposedly similar in vibe to Linklater's Dazed and Confused. The new beer is made by Austin Beerworks and is described as a "dry-hopped Texas Common Beer", available around Austin soon. "Paying tribute to Rick's latest with a one-of-a-kind beer from one of my favorite breweries? It's exactly the kind of project that excites us and blurs the line between work and fun," stated Tim League. Here's a photo of the beer for Everybody Wants Some made by Austin Beerworks, found on Twitter: And here's the new Mondo poster designed by...

It was less about 2 1/2 years ago when actor Shemar Moore raised over $630,000 on Indiegogo to help fund his feature film "The Bounce Back," which he stars in and also executive produces. Directed by Youssef Delara ("Filly Brown") and written by Delara and Victor Teran from a story by Staci Robinson, the romantic comedy stars Moore as an author who's marketing a relationship book but hasn't gotten over his own heartbreak. Bill Bellamy co-stars as his friend and manager, and Nadine Velasquez as his love interest. The official synopsis reads: Father, author and relationship expert, Matthew Taylor is on a whirlwind book tour promoting his new best seller,...

Beyond the darkness... beyond the human evolution... is Khan. Mondo has unveiled the artwork for their upcoming vinyl pressing of the original score for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, released in 1982, directed by Nicholas Meyer. This classic sci-fi sequel from the 80s has a wonderful score from James Horner, some of his early work, and this special edition re-release is remastered. It's also "the extended score, featuring cues rarely released for home listening, and it's spread out across two gorgeous LPs." The art for the cover and insert was designed by Matt Taylor, and it's gorgeous, seriously. I almost want to buy this just for the art, it's that good. Images below and info on the vinyl from Birth.Movies.Death. Khaaann!!! That image above is my favorite piece of art from this set. Mondo has a new art coming up called Snikt. Bamf. Thwip: A Celebration of Marvel Comics and we have some cool illustrations from it to share with you. Some of our favorite heroes will be reimagined by popular artists, including Tom Whalen, Matt Taylor, Becky Cloonan, and Matthew Woodson.
When talking about the upcoming exhibit, Mondo Creative Director Mitch Putnam had this to say:
It’s probably no surprise that the Marvel Comics universe holds a special place in every Mondoer’s heart. These characters inspired us, helped to shape who we are, and taught us life lessons that stuck with us forever (our own Eric Garza still pretty much thinks he’s Wolverine). We excitedly asked a handful of artists to create posters for some of our favorite comic storylines and characters. We can’t wait for you to see everything.

Steven Spielberg’s Jaws is without question a true classic, frequently cited as one of the greatest movies of all time. The details of the chaotic (at times frankly nightmarish) shoot are well documented, but there was a lot more going on when cameras rolled for the first time in Martha’s Vineyard way back in 1974 than a broken shark model.
The making of Jaws is the inspiring story of a group of people triumphing over seemingly insurmountable obstacles, through sheer determination managing to produce a film that was infinitely better than anyone expected it to be.
It totally dwarfs the novel on which it was based and greatly improved on, with certain fairly significant omissions and additions resulting in a far more engaging tale, and a group of characters viewers were a lot happier to spend time with than the unrelatable (and at some points downright dislikeable) bunch featured in the book.

Wolf #1
Written by Ales Kot
Illustrated by Matt Taylor
Coloured by Lee Loughridge
Lettered by Clayton Cowles
Published by Image Comics
One of the first lines spoken in Wolf is in the form of a question: “How do you feel about myths?” The question floats around and isn’t brought up again until about the mid way point of this first issue. The subject of myths are discussed through a conversation, placing them as something that should, and perhaps already has to a certain extent, face the need to evolve over time. Stories are reworked, remade, and touched up in favour of the changes made over time, as certain aspects of these myths may appear outdated, stuck in a particular loop of time; a Mobius strip one could say. Wolf approaches this ideology of challenging traditional myths by respecting their origins but plays with the potential to invent and distort...

In Shops This Week:
Death Head #1
Writer: Zack Keller, Nick Keller
Artist: Joanna Estep
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Price: $4
Description: When Niles and Justine Burton go camping to get a break from their stressful lives, they expect to find peace . . . not an abandoned village hiding an ancient evil. In a turn of events ripped straight from a horror movie, a brutal killer wearing a plague doctor’s mask begins hunting Niles, Justine, and their two kids.
Our Take: As a new horror title, there’s many things to praise about Death Head: it has a suitably cool antagonist, a genuine sense of terror and a complex but intriguing narrative. On the other hand, the characters often feel flat and forced, given so little time to develop that they feel like parodies of the people they’re supposed to be. By starting so many stories in a single issue, the writers...

The celebration of Back to the Future Part II continues as 2015, the year which Marty and Doc travel to the future, continues, and this time it's collectible arthouse Mondo checking in with an awesome new print from Matt Taylor. This print features the DeLorean time machine as it descends from the sky to arrive in the Hill Valley of the future, where flying cars are the norm. Taylor has taken the "Welcome to Hill Valley" sign from the film and replaced it with the title of the movie itself. And through the clouds, you can see the famous town square where the clock tower still stands, and plenty of Back to the Future action takes place. What’s the latest pop-culture kerfuffle? Glad you asked.
Last week, while everyone on the planet was obsessed with Kim Kardashian and her ass (no, I’m not linking to it), European scientists landed a satellite on a moving comet. It was an amazing achievement, and I don’t know why it didn’t get more attention except that:
1) It wasn’t an American project, but the work of the European Space Agency.
2) It didn’t feature someone’s gigantic naked ass.
Maybe in an attempt to get some of that Kardashian crowd, the man who spoke to the media on behalf of the project, Dr. Matt Taylor, wore a shirt with an illustrated pattern of women in various kinds of bondage gear – and not the covered-up kind.
Here’s what I think happened: Dr. Taylor wanted to look like a regular guy when he was interviewed in order to...

Back to the Future might just be the perfect commercial Hollywood film, a rousing a time-travel adventure with unforgettable spirit, that has endured so well because it walks that fine tightrope of managing to appeal to just about everyone. In honour of the film, artist Matt Taylor teamed up with Mondo to deliver a colorful Back to the Future poster print. The 18? x 24? sized print will be released at Thought Bubble in the UK in an edition of only 225.
Here’s what Matt Taylor had to say about the print via SlashFilm: “Bttf is basically my dream project and as such is utterly terrifying, because it is embedded in the public consciousness and has it’s own library of iconography that even people who haven’t seen the film will know. This energetic Back to the Future poster by Matt Taylor “really cooks.” I don’t think you guys are ready for it yet, but your kids are gonna love it. There are several elements from different parts of the film that Taylor combined into one electrifying piece of art. They are all slightly conflicting, though. The Gibson Es-335 is from the 1955 dance where he’s was wearing a suit. And in the scene where Marty blows up the giant speaker in 1985, he’s playing his little Erlewine Chiquita guitar sans the red vest. Since this could all be explained away by some kind of future adventure screwing up the space-time continuum, I figure, what the hell? Have a sip of Pepsi Free and just go with it.
