Actor Sylvester Stallone changed his fate when he wrote and starred in the sports drama Rocky. The Best Picture winner spawned a franchise that has included five more sequels and a spinoff trilogy on Adonis Creed. While the Rocky franchise may have put Stallone on the map, it was his role in the Rambo franchise that made him an action star.
He starred as the Vietnam War veteran John Rambo in Ted Kotcheff’s First Blood. Contrary to the high-adrenaline action extravaganza that was the sequels, the first film was a poignant exploration of Vietnam War veterans’ struggle to integrate back into society while also dealing with their trauma. This reportedly ended darkly for John Rambo in the film originally.

When a young Bob Dylan finally stepped on stage at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 and “went electric,” his choice was met with outrage and consternation from attendees and the festival’s organizers – but it also helped cement Dylan as arguably the most iconoclastic American musician of the entire 1960s.
It’s not really a spoiler to note that James Mangold’s forthcoming film “A Complete Unknown” culminates with the Newport Folk Festival appearance. But the Searchlight Pictures film that stars Timothee Chalamet as Dylan opens in 1961, with the singer’s arrival in New York, where Dylan meets legendary folk singers like Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger (played in the film respectively by Scoot McNairy and Edward Norton). A meteoric rise soon follows, and Mangold’s script, co-written by Jay Cocks, tracks Dylan’s early successes and his efforts to find his voice as a burgeoning artist truly. The overall...

Over the past 50-plus years, film historian Joseph McBride has been one of the great chroniclers and analyzers of American directors. His 1972 volume on Orson Welles was one of the first essential works on that great filmmaker, and in the years since, he has published the definitive biographies of John Ford, Frank Capra, Billy Wilder, Ernst Lubitsch, and Steven Spielberg — along with a couple more terrific books on Welles and one of the best tomes on screenwriting (“Writing in Pictures”) ever written.
McBride has always been expert at finding the intersection between biography and personal expression, as rigorous in his research as he is insightful in his visual and literary analysis. Now, he has turned his keen eye toward director George Cukor, and the result, “George Cukor’s People: Acting for a Master Director,” is one of McBride’s most innovative works to date and indispensable for anyone interested not...

On Friday night, amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, hosted its first-ever gala in Las Vegas — with the hopes that in the city where winning big is the goal, the nonprofit would hit the jackpot in fundraising for AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education and advocacy.
Held during Formula 1 race weekend in the garden of the Wynn Las Vegas, the night was made possible by Paramount Global, Roberto Cavalli, 101 Studios, the Wynn Las Vegas, Sazerac and Rm Sotheby’s. AmfAR raised over $3 million at the event, and the foundation will receive close to $11 million from Rm Sotheby’s in a live auction of rare luxury cars. Sylvester Stallone and wife Jennifer were the evening’s big honorees, receiving amfAR’s Award of Inspiration.
Jay Leno kept his hosting duties after news broke that he fell down a large hill over the weekend, leaving him with an eye patch and a large bruise.

In the "Gilligan's Island" episode "New Neighbor Sam," the castaways begin hearing mysterious voices from the bushes. Suspecting there are other people on the island, several of them go to investigate and discover -- after some slapstick shenanigans, of course -- that the voices were all coming from a talking macaw. The macaw identifies itself as Sam, and the Professor (Russell Johnson) tries to get the bird to say more, hoping to glean more information as to where it came from. The macaw also speaks like a gangster, so the Professor figures it must have once belonged to a career criminal, but somehow escaped and flew to their island.
The Professor's suspicions are confirmed when Sam steals a diamond belonging to Mrs. Howell (Natalie Schafer) and tries to abscond with it. Clearly, this macaw knows about jewels. Eventually, the castaways find the cave where the parrot had been hiding, and...

Bloody good western thrillers are hard to come by these days, so criticizing The Thicket for its predictable plotline would be unnecessary nitpicking, given how stylish, satirical, and often subversive the rest of the movie is. With Peter Dinklage playing the role of an ace bounty hunter and Juliette Lewis’ stellar performance as a savage, crooked outlaw, gun violence galore to the heart’s content of western fans—what more viewers could ask for anyway?
Adapted from Joe R. Lansdale’s novel of the same name, The Thicket is a gritty vengeance western that simultaneously employs some of the genre stereotypes and twists it to present the narrative as a revisionist take. Aside from the payoff, which doesn’t really hit the spot after a prolonged buildup, The Thicket is a solid one-time watch that retains uniqueness with its pulpy undertone.

Surprise! Bob’s Burgers is back with even more episodes for season 14 as was teased at San Diego Comic-Con.
For those who don’t know, season 15 of Bob’s Burgers won’t be airing until September 29 but until then, there was a backlog of episodes so the Belchers are back a bit earlier than normal. If you didn’t know, this is due to the previous Hollywood strikes so at least, we’re getting more now.
This couldn’t come at a better time as Bob’s Burgers recently lost the Emmy for Best Animated Program. Since it’s part of the Creative Arts Emmys, we were able to find out the result a little early and the show was beaten by Blue Eye Samurai.
As unfortunate as it is, Bob’s Burgers is only getting better so another win will come. Until then, we still have more of season 14 to enjoy.

Second only to Mel Blanc himself, voice actor Jeff Bergman has voiced the most Looney Tunes characters over the longest stretch of time. He “officially” got the gig — the reason for those quotes will become clear below — in 1989 when Bugs, Daffy and the rest became teachers on Tiny Toon Adventures. He’s continued on through dozens of other projects like 1990’s Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, 2011’s The Looney Tunes Show, 2015’s New Looney Tunes and last year’s Tiny Toons Looniversity reboot.
While he’s not the only person who’s voiced these characters since Blanc’s passing, he’s been among the most consistent. Which, of course, has steeped him in all sorts of Looney Tunes lore, as well as allowed him to make some of his own. Lore such as…

Over the years, lots of Parton’s fans have been dying to see who the country singer has been sharing her forever with but haven’t had much luck, and that’s because Dean is a very private person who prefers to live out of the spotlight.

The demise of disco was greatly accelerated by the cultural impact of the infamous Disco Demolition Night of 1979 in Chicago’s Comiskey Park. While rockers have used the word in a pejorative sense for years, DJs, artists, impresarios, and aficionados know that disco—both the genre and the subculture—not only has deep roots but has lived on under various aliases, inspiring the evolution of music and keeping people moving in various funky ways. Le freak, c’est toujours chic!
These are the ideas, plot points and storylines that Toronto filmmakers Omar Majeed (“Taqwacore: The Birth of Punk Islam”) and Peter Mishara explore in their documentary feature “Disco’s Revenge,” which had its world premiere Thursday in Hot Docs’ Pop/Life strand.
The film, which screens again Friday, is set for release this year. Elevation Pictures will distribute it in Canada; Republic Pictures has acquired rights outside of Canada.

The One Piece anime recently featured the famous Rob Lucci vs Gear 5 Luffy fight in episode 1100. The battle was one of the best One Piece fights ever, and it impressed a lot of anime fans. However, the fight was not only liked by One Piece fans but one instance before the fight even impressed Attack on Titan fans.

Luffy, before engaging in a fight with the CP0 agent, did something instinctively that reminded Attack on Titan fans of Eren Jaeger, the protagonist of Hajime Isayama’s series. Beyoncé has so many audacious culture-clash triumphs all over Cowboy Carter. But one of the most stunning moments is also one of the simplest: her version of the Beatles classic “Blackbird.” Paul McCartney wrote the song in the summer of 1968, inspired by the American civil rights movement. All that history is right there in Beyoncé’s version. She keeps the folkie Paul guitar, complete with the squeaks, but adds her heavenly gospel-soul harmonies. What she does with the word “arise” is incredible in itself.

CBS has had a lot of luck with its Yellowstone rollout, even though the series has been on for years and is available in full on Peacock.
It’s no wonder they’re looking to Taylor Sheridan and Sylvester to bolster their summer programming with a broadcast rollout of Tulsa King.
Tulsa King gives Yellowstone a run for the money when it comes to content the profanity. As we know, Federal law prohibits obscene, indecent, and profane content from being broadcast on the radio or TV.
Will that stop people from tuning into the broadcast version of Tulsa King on CBS?
Doubtful. And why would it? What you don’t know, you don’t know.
And there are plenty of people who prefer their dramas to be more watered down, and airing them on CBS gives many different kinds of viewers to see programming they wouldn’t otherwise.

Sylvester Stallone has three daughters who’ve been involved in the entertainment industry in some capacity. Stallone would help one of his daughters, Sistine, audition for her movies personally. But soon Sistine’s manager explained why that might’ve done more harm than good.

Stallone’s daughter Sistine would find herself following in her father’s footsteps. Sistine didn’t believe herself to be a natural at acting, as she was convinced it wasn’t an ability that could simply be learned.
“I still think acting is something that you’re born with and I think the greatest actors today, they don’t need training, it comes naturally to them. It’s like being a naturally good singer….I don’t think that’s me at all,” Sistine told Variety not too long ago.

Plot: The shy author (Bryce Dallas Howard) of a series of best-selling spy novels discovers that her books, somehow, are all true. Pursued by a top-secret division of evil spies, she must now rely on an unlikely protector (Sam Rockwell) to get to the bottom of the whole affair.
Review: As a big fan of spy cinema, particularly the vintage kind from the early days of James Bond, I’ve always liked what Matthew Vaughn was doing with his yarns. While many say he should direct an actual 007 film, it’s clear to me – as a fan of the genre – that Vaughn’s heart belongs to a bygone era in espionage movies. If the Kingsman movies were his gonzo, R-rated riff on the Roger Moore James Bond movies he grew up watching, Argylle is his tribute to the campy James Bond knockoffs that hit theaters in the late sixties.

Ariana DeBose, Boy George and Nile Rodgers have teamed up for “Electric Energy,” the disco-infused bop featured in Matthew Vaughn’s “Argylle.”
Rodgers, who produced the track which plays over the film’s end credits, says he got a call from Vaughn asking if he wanted to be involved. Speaking with Variety over Zoom, the musician said although Vaughn sent him a demo track he still asked to see the film. “I have to see the film and have real context because I didn’t want to play blindly.” After seeing the film, his response was, “I was so overly sold. It was fun. I’m totally down.”
DeBose shot the film during the pandemic. “Before the big change,” she says referring to her 2022 awards season sweep as best supporting actress for her role in “West Side Story.” “We made the movie, and I had a wonderful time, and then I won the Oscar.

The title of Fruit Chan’s Made in Hong Kong cheekily references a phrase you might have seen printed on the packaging for an action figure way back in 1997, the year of the film’s original release. But it also refers to the young, wannabe triad member with the unlikely name of Autumn Moon (Sam Lee), as well as to the production circumstances of the film itself. Its declarative label is somewhat excessive, though, as there’s no mistaking where and when Moon’s misadventures take place: Chan’s quirky, gangster-adjacent flick, so infused with washed-out and blue-filtered imagery, presents a portrait of Hong Kong that bears more than a passing resemblance to Wong Kar-wai and Christopher Doyle’s early collaborations.
From its handheld shots racing through open-air markets, to its use of expressionistic step-printed slow motion, to the way its perspectives on the city take inspiration from the cramped...

Looney Tunes is not leaving Max after all. The streamer had released a list that included the classic cartoons leaving the platform in December.
Max has since revised their “What’s New on Max This December” press release.
“Looney Tunes was included in error as a title leaving the platform,” read the statement clarifying the status of the classic shorts. “This is not the case and the show will continue streaming on Max.”
An outcry from fans of the show followed on social media after believing Bugs Bunny and his friends would not live on the streaming platform anymore.
The error comes a couple weeks after Wbd announced it would be scrapping the already-completed Coyote Vs. Acme for a tax writeoff. The David Zaslav-run company reconsidered the decision after fan backlash and set up screenings for streamers who might want to buy it.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is addressing his past beef with Sylvester Stallone.
The 76-year-old Terminator actor and former governor of California spoke about how he used to compete with the 77-year-old Rocky star in Sylvester‘s new Netflix documentary Sly.
Keep reading to find out more…
In the film, Arnold recalled, “We were like little kids. Who uses bigger knives? Who uses the biggest guns and holds them in one arm? Who has more muscles, who has more muscle definition, who has less body fat?”
The two movie stars featured in many high-profile action films throughout the 1980s and ’90s, each playing muscular lead characters such as Sylvester‘s Rocky Balboa and John Rambo and Arnold‘s Terminator and Col. John Matrix.
“All of a sudden he was ripped with muscles and everyone [was] talking about his body,” Arnold added. “And so that created competition of course.”

When you are making a documentary out of the life of someone as magnanimous as Sylvester Sly Stallone, bringing an X-factor to the table is a must. Given that it is coming from the house of Netflix, which has set pretty much a gold standard when it comes to the documentary genre, the audience would expect it to be nothing short of exceptional. Only a few weeks ago, the brilliant David Beckham documentary showed how to do it. Unfortunately, the Stallone documentary couldn’t quite achieve the greatness that it was supposed to. Let us take a closer look into both the “what” and “why” of Sly.
Childhood Was Not Too Kind
Life wasn’t easy for Sly and his brother Frank. The blame for that goes to no one but their parents, who didn’t have an easy marriage. And not only did they fail to protect the kids from the trauma of that,...

Sylvester Stallone is one of the most recognized actors in the industry. His breakout role came in 1976 when he starred in "Rocky," which was such a big hit that it received 10 Oscar nominations and went on to inspire a whole film franchise. It also led Sylvester to land his role as John J. Rambo in 1982 action film "First Blood," which, similarly to "Rocky," resulted in a number of sequels that turned Sylvester into a pop-culture icon. Even decades later, he's still dominating Hollywood with parts in the Creed, Expendables, and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises. However, one of the actor's biggest roles in life is being a father to his five kids.
Sylvester's family is super supportive of his acting career. His wife, Jennifer Flavin, a successful model and entrepreneur, frequently attends Sylvester's movie premieres, and so do the couple's three daughters: Sophia Rose, Sistine Rose, and Scarlet Rose Stallone.

There is a scene in Five Nights at Freddy’s where two animatronic monstrosities—one a giant teddy bear and the other a yellow canary so devious even Sylvester would avoid it—look menacingly at a character who watches them both on a security camera. Now, how they know this poor doomed soul is looking at the security feed at that exact moment, or why they harbor him ill intent, I cannot say. What I can attest to is they’re so determined to end his life that they are serving him a dish best served screaming. No, really! The pair carry a sentient cupcake on a dish (it even has eyes and teeth), and they drop it down an air duct with the clear assumption being the malevolent pastry will find its way through the vents and commit homicide.
