- TriviaInimitable Bavarian comic character actor (also producer, writer and director), in films from 1913 after a brief spell on the stage. He was immensely popular in regional bucolic comedies and Heimatfilms with alpine scenery. His stock-in-trade was the crafty, indomitable Bavarian farmer or villager elder, invariably taking the mickey out of northerners (especially Prussians), or city slickers, with a requisite amount of guile and sarcasm.
