Additionally, In 1983, prior to the official establishment of the National Medal of Arts, through the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, President Ronald Reagan awarded a basically unnamed arts medal to a variety of artists and patrons of various art mediums, included in those 1983 arts medal awards by President Reagan was a medal award to the very same Frank Stella who was bestowed with an official 2009 National Medal of Arts by President Obama in February 2010.
