Aiming to help create a new Hollywood, marked by accessibility, diversity, and equity, Rainbow Entertainment is currently in the process of financing When Jupiter Returns, Mahal, an indie rom-com expected to enter production in August. The film written, directed by and starring Valdez watches as Mahal, an impulsive and unknowingly lovable, Filipino trans woman, confronts the universe after the sudden death of her sister, only to meet Aarush, a mysterious inventor. As they fall in love, despite the universe’s prophecy, Mahal grapples with the question: Do we create our own destiny, or is it all fated in the stars?

When Oscar-nominated director Lee Daniels thinks of those who inspired him, Patrik-Ian Polk easily comes to mind.
Known for telling groundbreaking stories centered on Black gay life — including the independent film Punks, which premiered at Sundance in 2000, and Noah’s Arc, which ran on Logo TV for two seasons from 2005-06 — Polk is a creative force who has chronicled (and continues to chronicle) the lives of underrepresented people while championing diversity way before “Dei” became a buzz term.
“[Polk] was way ahead of the curve, and he took the bullets for all of us when it just wasn’t accepted to do what he was doing,” Daniels, 63, says of Polk, 49. “His bravery is what I ran with in my career. I learned from Patrik that I wasn’t going to take no for an answer. When I say he really has inspired me — he’s a mentor.”

“Noah’s Arc,” the two-season Logo dramedy about four gay friends navigating the highs and lows of Los Angeles, is planning its return, according to the show’s creator — but not on the pioneering cable network where it first ran.
While accepting an award at the SpeakOut I Am Awards, “Noah’s Arc” creator Patrik-Ian Polk said, “I’m very happy to confirm that there is indeed more ‘Noah’s Arc’ coming.”
Gayemagazine.com has a video of Polk’s statements at the event.
The revival was also confirmed by Darryl Stephens, who played the titular Noah on the series, in a since-deleted tweet that TheWrap captured.
“[In] case you haven’t already heard… there’s a movie and it’s coming soon,” Stephens tweeted, posting a meme of Tiffany Pollard with the “Noah’s Arc” logo on top as well as an image of MTV’s logo. Stephens’ tweet was the first indication that...

CBS has canceled comedy series “B Positive” after two seasons.
Executive produced by Chuck Lorre, “B Positive” starred Annaleigh Ashford as Gina, a hard-partying woman with a checkered past who, on a whim, decided to offer up her kidney to a former high school acquaintance, Drew (Thomas Middleditch), a recently-divorced therapist and single dad undergoing kidney failure.
During the process, Gina discovers that the happiness she’d been seeking all along could be found in the form of giving, so upon inheriting a surprise windfall of money from a patient at Valley Hills, the assisted living facility where she works, she decides it’s time to make a big change in a positive direction.
The first season of the multi-cam comedy premiered Nov. 5, 2020, with the second debuting Oct. 7 of last year.

This bodes well for Drew Dunbar’s kidney transplant: CBS has renewed Chuck Lorre’s B Positive for Season 2, TVLine has learned. Additionally, the Eye network has renewed Lorre’s other freshman sitcom, United States of AI, for a second season.
B Positive centers on the aforementioned Drew (played by Silicon Valley‘s Thomas Middleditch), a therapist and newly divorced dad who is faced with needing a kidney donor. He soon reconnects with Gina Dabrowski (Masters of Sex‘s Annaleigh Ashford), a rough-around-the-edges woman from his past who volunteers her own.

B Positive will be on the CBS schedule for a bit longer.
The freshman comedy has nabbed a full season order at CBS, becoming one of few shows to pull off such a move in that pandemic-affected season.
While the show has been expanded, no details on how many episodes have actually been ordered.
ABC's Big Sky recently got a six-episode back-order, keeping it around for 16 episodes.
However, that show is heavily serialized, meaning that fewer episodes were probably a part of a commitment between the creatives and the network.
B Positive Season 1 is averaging 5 million viewers and a 0.56 rating in the all-important 18-49 demo.
The series, which hails from Chuck Lorre, is holding up well in its Thursday slot and pulling in decent enough ratings to stick around.
B Positive was the only completed broadcast pilot ahead of this season due to the Covid-19 shutdowns that plagued the industry.

The Associated Press deleted a tweet Sunday evening that called a large caravan of migrants from Central America a ragged “army.” The decision from the wire service came just hours after the tweet was posted and sustained heavy criticism online.
“We have deleted a tweet about the migrant caravan moving through Central America and Mexico because it lacked context. A new tweet will be posted shortly,” the AP said.

Beyond the Lights - 20th Century Fox - Blu-ray and DVD Director: Gina Prince-Bythewood Cast: Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Danny Glover, Minnie Driver, Nate Parker, Darryl Stephens. Full cast + crew A few big Oscar winners hit shelves this week, but there's one nominee that was probably never even on your radar but absolutely should be: Beyond the Lights. This is the kind old school, tempered, meaningful adult love story that people complain Hollywood doesn't make any more. It's about a rising hip hop star (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) who is being ground down by her exploitative industry and the Boy Scout of a cop (Nate Parker) who happens to save her life one day. Their relationship plays out in unsurprising ways, but what makes Beyond the Lights stand...

Doug Spearman, writer/director of Hot Guys With Guns
With a title like Hot Guys With Guns, the gay action comedy has been getting attention on the film festival circuit and for good reason. Taking elements of film noir, buddy comedies and a dash of gay romance, writer/director Doug Spearman has crafted a layered story that follows two exes, Danny (Marc Anthony Samuel) and Pip (Brian McArdle) as they try to solve a West Hollywood crime ring. Of course, the two men are also trying to solve the matter of their hearts as lingering feelings from their past relationship are just as paramount as the clues they’re searching for to solve the crime.
The film, which also deftly sends up Hollywood, gay culture and race, screens at the 31st Annual Outfest Lgbt Film Festival in Los Angeles this Friday, and brings a full circled-ness to the project since...

Darryl Stephens finds himself in bed with Sean Wing in A Family Thing.

Presented by the Echo Theater Company, the play, by out playwright Gary Lennon (who also has extensive credits in film and TV) looks at a family of three estranged brothers – one a felon, one an addict and the other a writer (who happens to be gay) and what happens when they come back together. Back in 2007, we ran an article called Gay Sex Scenes that Made Movie History. A delightfully naughty exploration of firsts and foresk- ... er, foremosts in terms of gay male intimacy on the silver screen, it celebrated some of the films that blew the celluloid closet to bits, one modesty sock at a time.
Six years later, it's shocking just how far pop culture has come in terms of normalizing gay characters and stories, and how much bolder the gay film audience has grown in demanding films that speak truthfully to their sexual experience (though, it must be said, the films that answer the call are usually decidedly outside of the mainstream). So we've decided to bring you an update to our foundational piece that looks at what has happened since. The show, which "tells the story of a diverse group of friends, all at crossroads in their lives," is also the first series funded in part via Kickstarter to receive domestic and international distribution.

Logo debuts a new original scripted drama tonight with Dtla.

Expect to see more of Emily's classmate from the vengeance dojo. Barry Sloane has been promoted to a series regular on Revenge with the potential to return in a potential third season.
CBS has ordered a full season of Vegas and Elementary, both shows I liked but haven't had time to keep watching.
Er. Wow. You know Jeremy Davies' odd haircut at the Emmys? The one we thought was an expression of his character's strangeness until he stepped onto the Emmy stage? It turns out he showed up on the set of Justified with that haircut and they decided to use it.
While I agree the characters on Happy Endings are pretty terrible people, that makes senes if you don't think of it as a Friends clone but rather as the successor to Seinfeld. Bad as the He gang might be,...

A group of friends dealing with life and love…blending elements of both comedy and drama…set in Los Angeles…airing on Logo…and starring Darryl Stephens.
Based on that description, you might think the show we’re talking about is Noah’s Arc, the series that aired on Logo from 2005-2006 and then wrapped up in a big screen movie in 2008. However, this is 2012 and we’re talking about the new series, Dtla. Created by Larry Kennar (The L Word), the show premieres this week on Logo. Compared to Noah's Arc, it's arguably a more mature take on relationships, family, love and careers as seen through the eyes of a group of twenty-to-thirty-something friends.
And, yes, Darryl Stephens leads the cast as Dtla’s Lenny but, as he told AfterElton last week during a sit-down in West Hollywood, this isn’t a continuation of the role that made him famous.
