The following article contains graphic descriptions of a violent homicide.
Homicide: New York opens its miniseries with an episode about the tragic death of Jennifer Stahl, an actress who appeared in Dirty Dancing and was murdered in cold blood. One of the few documentaries in the Dick Wolf universe of TV shows, Homicide: New York is a 2024 five-episode miniseries that uncovers different, grisly murders that have taken place in New York City. The series features detectives, investigators, prosecutors, and even those who knew the victims for an up-close and personal look at the crimes.
It isn't the first true-crime series that Dick Wolf has made, with Cold Justice and Criminal Confessions being notable entries in the genre, but it is the first Wolf production to be made for Netflix. The first episode of the series is titled, "Carnegie Deli Massacre" and it gets the show off on a frightening note with a triple homicide.

Netflix’s true crime series Homicide: New York’s first installment, “Carnegie Deli Massacre,” opens with the brutal murders of Jennifer Stahl, Charles “Trey” Helliwell, and Stephen King. The episode features NYPD Lieutenant Roger Parrino; Barbara Butcher, the second woman ever hired for the role of Death Investigator in Manhattan; and retired NYPD Det. Irma Rivera. The case plagues these veteran law enforcement professionals enough to revisit the evidence. The deaths seem to have weighed heavily on producer Dick Wolf too. “Tragedy on Rye,” a season 14 episode of his signature show Law & Order, is based on the tragic incident.
The crime also haunted New York. The murders happened on May 10, 2001, during a period when city crime had been on a downswing, and media at the time dredged up fears Times Square would go back to its not-so-distant wild and dangerous earlier character. Like the detectives in the show, it...

The more crime documentaries I watch, the more I realize how tough and terrifying a job it is to become a detective, especially for homicide cases. It takes a lot of courage and an open mind at the same time to confront a killer and make them talk about what they did and why they did it. Netflix has always done a great job when it comes to true crime docuseries, and another intriguing series was recently added to their list. Homicide: New York is a five-part docuseries that showcases five bone-chilling murder cases that took place in NYC. Both the detective squads from Manhattan South and North shared their experiences dealing with these crimes and how they had been able to find the murderers and bring them to justice. Here’s our recap of the first episode of this series, Carnegie Deli Massacre, that talks about how these diligent...

Five people were shot in Stahl’s apartment above the famous deli on May 10, 2001. Three of the victims, including Stahl, were killed. Salley and Smith were each found guilty of ...

“The Loudest Voice” centers on the rise and fall of Fox News founder Roger Ailes, but the upcoming Showtime miniseries could also be seen as a prequel to the rise of Donald Trump, says showrunner Alex Metclaf.
“Without Fox News, there is no President Donald Trump,” Metcalf told TheWrap. “Roger, as sort of the progenitor of the modern partisan era, created the world we live in now. We were really conscious of that all the time.”
The series, which Metcalf expects willrile up some conservatives, shows how Ailes (Russell Crowe) built Fox News into a cable news behemoth and in the process ushered in the “hot take” era in political news. At one point early in the series, Ailes says that “people don’t want to be informed, they want to feel informed.” Metcalf says much of the current political climate can be traced back to Ailes’ influence.
