Derrick Speight is an American producer, director, and executive who has produced numerous film and television projects globally. He served as VP of Programming & Development at Complex Networks, where he oversaw all digital, linear, and theatrical projects, including the fan-favorite series' 'Sneaker Shopping' and 'Goat Talk.' In addition to managing the content slate, he developed projects to acquire and produce for the network. He also played a pivotal role in curating Buzzfeed's vast archives for adaptation into film and television formats.
At BET Digital, he served as Head of Originals where he led development and production for all digital series, specials, and pilots. There, he launched 16 original series including Webby nominees 'Sip N' Smoke' with Cam Newton and 'Cooked In 5.' He also directed the hit sketch comedy series 'Spoof Deez.'
Prior, Speight worked as a showrunner, producing more than 40 network series, including iconic franchises 'The Bachelor' (ABC), 'Biggest Loser' (NBC), 'Surreal Life' (VH1) and 'The Mole' (ABC). His commercial directing portfolio features national spots for brands like Cricket Wireless, Iams, and Livestrong.
Speight was born and raised in Charlotte, is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and currently resides in Los Angeles.
