For Jenna Fischer, playing “Pam” for nine seasons on The Office was apparently a blessing and a curse.

In the latest episode of her Office Ladies podcast, Fischer finally spilt the tea on why she was recast after shooting a pilot for Man with a Plan, a show headlined by Friends star Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey Tribbiani on that long-running sitcom.

According to Fischer, she lost the role as LeBlanc’s wife when test audiences couldn’t get past that they were watching Pam and Joey. They didn’t “believe Pam would marry Joey.”

Fischer claimed that network executives initially asked for “more scenes” with her. But the pilot and the focus group’s reaction sunk that opportunity.

“They said — this is a literal quote, they said, ‘I don’t believe Pam would marry Joey. The chemistry doesn’t work between these two,'” Fischer told her Office Ladies co-host Angela Kinsey.

CBS is sticking it to the Man: The Eye network has cancelled the Matt LeBlanc-fronted sitcom Man With a Plan after four seasons, TVLine has learned.

The family comedy launched its current fourth season on April 2, filling CBS’ Thursday-at-8:30 void left by Walton Goggins’ rookie entry The Unicorn (which has been renewed, along with 22 other series).

CBS on Tuesday confirmed the return date for a beloved returning comedy, and the premiere date for a brand new one.

Man With a Plan Season 4 will debut Thursday, April 2 at 8:30/7:30c, taking over The Unicorn's time slot.

Broke, starring Pauley Perrette (NCIS) and Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin), will launch that same night in the 9:30 pm slot.

The new series is replacing Carol's Second Act after it wraps up its freshman run.

CBS has set premiere dates for retuning comedy Man With a Plan, starring Matt LeBlanc, and new sitcom Broke, starring Jaime Camil and Pauley Perrette. Both will join the schedule on April 2, airing in the Thursday 8:30 Pm and 9:30 Pm slot, respectively.

Man with a Plan, heading into its fourth season, will succeed Unicorn while Broke will replace Carol’s Second Act after both freshmen comedies complete their runs. Unicorn and Carol’s Second Act both received five-episode back orders from CBS for a 18-episode Season 1, short of the traditional full-season 22 episodes. Both are on the bubble for renewal.

Man With a Plan and Broke were the only remaining CBS scripted series left on the bench when the network unveiled its winter schedule in November. Also waiting in the wings is reality veteran The Amazing Race, which CBS brass may keep on the shelf as backup in case a writers...

CBS has renewed “Man With a Plan,” starring Matt LeBlanc, for a fourth season.

The comedy features LeBlanc as old-school guy Adam, who begins a construction business with his wife Andi (Liza Snyder) after hitting a rough patch. Their house-flipping enterprise also involves Adam’s clueless brother (Kevin Nealon) and unlikely friend Lowell (Matt Cook).

LeBlanc executive produces the series with Jeff and Jackie Filgo, Michael Rotenberg, Troy Zien, and Gregg Mettler. CBS Television Studios also produces the show.

“Man With a Plan” began its third season on Feb. 4. CBS has renewed multi-camera comedy series Man With a Plan for a fourth season.

As we noted in the CBS renewal update last night, the Matt LeBlanc starrer had been considered the most likely among the network’s bubble comedy series to score a pickup. Stay tuned for cancellation news later today.

While never a breakout, Man With a Plan has been a decent and pretty consistent ratings performer. The series has been averaging a 1.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demo and 6.3 million total viewers (most current). Additionally, the comedy comes from CBS sibling CBS TV Studios, and adding a fourth season would be beneficial to the studio as it would make the sitcom easier to sell in syndication.

CBS is using a different approach to unveiling its winter scheduling plans this year — by genre. After announcing its midseason unscripted slate yesterday, the network today is focusing on comedy.

Coming off the schedule in January/February are freshmen Murphy Brown and Happy Together; coming on are new comedy Fam and returning Man With a Plan.

CBS so far has given a Back 9 pickup for a full-season order to one new fall comedy, The Neighborhood. Like all current broadcast sitcom reboots, Murphy Brown was designed for a limited run and will wrap its freshman run with 13 episodes though its ratings delivery has been somewhat disappointing.

For Happy Together, starring Damon Wayans Jr., CBS has opted not to order additional episodes beyond the original 13. Per CBS’ standard Mo the past few years, the comedy is not canceled and will remain in contention for next season.

CBS announced its winter premiere dates on Wednesday,freshman comedy “Happy Together” receiving orders for more episodes.

“Murphy Brown” will also not be getting additional episodes, but the sitcom revival was always intended to be a 13 episode run. Still, “Murphy Brown” did not open as well in the ratings as other recent sitcom revivals like “Roseanne” (now “The Conners) and “Will & Grace.” The show debuted to a 1.1 rating in adults 18-49 and 7.5 million viewers back in September in Live+Same Day. In Live+7, the series is averaging a 1.4 rating and 9.1 million viewers to date. There are also higher costs associated with the show, in part due to the fact that it shoots in New York rather than Los Angeles. There is still a chance the show could get renewed, but as for now it’s chances seem slim.

St. Clair will appear in two episodes of the Matt LeBlanc sitcom as Kelly, the successful and sophisticated sister of Liza Snyder’s Andi. Currently living in Chicago, Kelly breezes into town under the pretense of a fancy business meeting, revealing a sibling rivalry with Andi that’s hidden under passive-aggressive cheeriness.

In addition to her three seasons as Playing House‘s Emma Crawford, St. Clair’s recent TV credits include American Housewife, Grace and Frankie and Review.

Marcy Burns is coming back to Man with a Plan in a big way. Deadline reports Kali Rocha has been upped to series regular for season three of the CBS TV show.

Kali Rocha, who has recurred opposite Matt LeBlanc on the first two seasons of Man With A Plan, has been promoted to series regular for the upcoming third season of the CBS comedy.

Rocha plays Marcy Burns, the bossy sister-in-law to Adam Burns (LeBlanc). She has appeared in 24 episodes.

The network had not been expected to bring back all of its Monday comedies as it is looking to improve its shaky ratings performance on the night. Still up in the air is the fate of Kevin Can Wait and Superior Donuts, with at least one probably not coming back. Update: Superior Donuts has been canceled.

Man With a Plan has held steady, ranking as CBS’ second highest rated and most watched series behind Kevin Can Wait on Monday. Man with a Plan also is fully owned by CBS, it comes from CBS TV . Studios, vs. 50-50 ownership in Kevin Can Wait, which comes from Sony TV. And, with Kevin Can Wait’s ratings sliding throughout the season following the female lead recasting debacle, in the final stretch the two comedies’ ratings have been on par.

As the television world shifts, and cable networks increasingly try to brand themselves as serving a particular niche, CBS consistently sticks with only two kinds of efforts – really good shows that are almost universally liked, and really bland shows that often manage to be so middle-of-the-road that they hit a magic, “meh” sweet spot that somehow keeps them going.

Man With a Plan, starring Matt LeBlanc, is solidly in the latter camp, and it’s a shame. LeBlanc can deliver, as witnessed by the brilliant Episodes, but this show has so much in common with newcomer Kevin Can Wait that it’s almost insulting. Take a couple of actors who had good runs in sit-coms decades ago, give them basically the same character they had before, and for good measure, we’ll give the shows very similar plotlines. Hooray.

In the CBS comedy, Man With A Plan, Matt LeBlanc plays Adam Burns, a contractor who agrees to take on more responsibility at home when his wife, Andi (Liza Snyder), returns to the work force after a 13-year-hiatus. Their three kids Kate (Grace Kaufman), Teddy (Matthew McCann) and Emme (Hala Finley) are thrilled to learn "Daddy Fun Times" will be running the show. For whatever reason, CBS is using its fall 2016 season to hammer in three overly familiar sitcom staples (the aging white man) all featuring sitcom stars who obviously reached their prime some time ago.

Kevin Can Wait has Kevin James on camera complaining about how he doesn’t fit into this modern world anymore, The Great Indoors does the same with Joel McHale albeit sans-Dan Harmon, and Man with a Plan is probably the weakest of the bunch, if only because it seems to have no idea what its own hook is beyond a premise that could easily fit within the constraints of one episode, not an entire series.

Matt LeBlanc‘s upcoming CBS sitcom “Man with a Plan” has cast Liza Snyder in the lead female role, which was previously held by “The Office” alum Jenna Fischer. Fischer shot the pilot, but was recast due to a lack of chemistry between her and LeBlanc. “ is a phenomenal actress,” CBS president Glenn Geller said back in May. “It just wasn’t the right actress for the right role, ultimately, when we saw the pilot.” Snyder will play Andi, LeBlanc’s wife who returns to the workforce after being a stay-at-home mom for 13 years, while he agrees to take on more parenting responsibilities.
