Biography

I had done mostly drama and cop stories for the longest time. When I first started doing Sci-fi in the early 1990s a hush would fall over the crew when the term motion-control or green-screen came up. It was a place everyone knew storytelling was going. These days we're doing twenty to thirty set-ups per day. So much has changed.

I remember the 1930s movie serials starring Larry Buster Crabbe. In those days there was always a mini movie before the main feature - mostly Westerns. The experience was completely captivating and I was always fascinated with photography as a kid so I began reading about techniques in books. When the movie Shane (1953) came out in theaters I was aware they had shot most of that picture using a technique called day-for-night.

I think a Producer is really happy when they're multi-tasking. When they have a few projects going on at the same time.

More or less anybody involved in the film industry during the 1960s and '70s - when I got involved - were in it because of the artistic value...it was what they wanted to do, they chose the business. It was not like that for me, the business sort-of chose me and I sort-of got into it by default.

It's important that your Keys are not only doing good work on a production, but are very focused on finding new cost effective ways of doing their job.
