London is set to become the capital of fear this winter as the Soho Horror Film Festival makes its eagerly awaited return for 2024. With an expanded hybrid format, this year’s festival promises to be the biggest yet, delivering a chilling mix of in-person and online scares across two weekends. Kicking off at Brixton’s Whirled Cinema from 22nd to 24th November, the festival then moves online for its Sohome Horror Film Festival from 28th November to 1st December, offering fans a ghoulish feast of over 80 films from 17 countries.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Blair Witch Project, the festival will showcase an exceptional strand of found footage films. Leading the charge is the international premiere of Tim Kasher’s Who’s Watching, a disturbing tale of obsession starring Zachary Ray Sherman. Horror fans can also expect chills from Stuart Ortiz’s documentary Strange Harvest: Occult Murder in the Inland Empire,...

Wozzek is a man on the brink of pretty much everything: life, death, human existence, sanity and grief, to name but a few. For several years, Wozzek has been living in a secluded and rural farm house, having relocated there with his wife Nellie (Christina Bennett Lind) after an apocalyptic global disaster, an alien invasion of sorts, known as the ‘calamity’ took place. However, since escaping the apocalypse, Nellie has died in unknown circumstances. This leaves Wozzek lonely and isolated. One of his only forms of company is his taped alter ego, a sobering and rational presence that calms him when he becomes too distraught.
However, he isn’t completely alone; he has managed to construct a machine that can bring Nellie back to life, for certain periods of time. His hope that he can bring her back to life permanently and live with her in matrimony once again. His...

Death comes for all of us and when it does, those we leave behind will have to figure out how to grieve. There is no handbook or right or wrong way to do it; it is just one of the awful, unavoidable experiences that is part of being human. Sometimes grief means honoring the life of the loved one who was lost; sometimes it changes how we view the world; and sometimes it is cause for self-reflection. Grief is only one part of the complicated dilemma a man named Wozzek finds himself struggling with in The Lonely Man With the Ghost Machine, the single location, one-man show from writer, director, star, and indie genre darling Graham Skipper (Sequence Break).
As soon as they see the news reports of a global catastrophic event, Wozzek (Skipper) and his wife Nellie (Christina Bennett Lind) flee from the city to a small cabin in...

Multihyphenate Graham Skipper returns to the Chattanooga Film Festival with his newest feature The Lonely Man With The Ghost Machine– a post-apocalyptic tale about loss, isolation, and creepy crawly monsters that eat humans for dinner. Indie fans will no doubt remember Skipper’s Cronenbergian Body Horror mindf*ck Sequence Break (2017), and while The Lonely Man With The Ghost Machine is definitely less…uh….gooey than his previous work, it’s still wickedly weird. And best of all, you can watch it right now as part of the Cff’s Virtual Fest, running straight through to June 28!

Stuart Gordon was the master of cinematic H.P. Lovecraft adaptations. Sadly, he passed away in 2020, but his Lovecraft franchise lives on with Suitable Flesh (read our review Here), which comes from the team of director Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Mayhem), screenwriter Dennis Paoli – who worked on the screenplays for Gordon’s Lovecraft movies Re-Animator, From Beyond, Castle Freak, Dagon, and Masters of Horror: Dreams in the Witch-House – and producer Barbara Crampton (who was in Re-Animator, From Beyond, and Castle Freak). The spirit of Stuart Gordon is alive and well in Joe Lynch’s Suitable Flesh. The adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Thing on the Doorstep,” written by Dennis Paoli (Re-Animator, From Beyond, Dagon), and produced by Brian Yuzna and Barbara Crampton, seamlessly inserts itself into Gordon’s Lovecraftian cinematic world from its opening scene set in a hospital that’s instantly evocative of Re-Animator. Lynch captures the humorous, oft-sexy tone of Gordon’s ‘80s/’90s Lovecraftian horror output while putting his own stamp on it through keen instincts and modern storytelling.

Created by writer/director Aaron B. Koontz and writer Cameron Burns, the horror-comedy Scare Package was released on AMC Networks’ horror streaming platform Shudder in the summer of 2020. Scare Package is an anthology film that tells a series of blood-splattered, satirical horror stories from various directors, which are being recounted by Chad Buckley (Jeremy King), the owner of a video rental store called Rad Chad’s Horror Emporium. This year, Koontz and Burns have assembled a new team of directors for a sequel to Scare Package, the horror-comedy anthology Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge, which features the return of Chad Buckley, a character who feels like a combination of Joe Bob Briggs and Randy Meeks.
In addition to the impressively over the top practical effects, part of what makes Scare Package and Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge so much fun are the ways in which the anthologies parody common horror tropes,...

This week is not only the first week of winter, officially beginning on December 21st, but the week is also capped off by Christmas Day on Sunday, December 25th. As you might imagine, it’s not exactly going to be a big week for new movie releases, with James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water likely dominating any and all movie conversations these next several days.
And don’t forget that Tommy Wirkola’s Christmas genre movie Violent Night is also still playing in theaters through Christmas, the film thus far slaying its way to 55 million worldwide!
What about New genre movies for the week, you ask? Well, there are only four new ones remaining for the entire rest of the year, so let’s take a look at those in one fell swoop.
Here’s all the new horror arriving December 19 – December 31, 2022!

"You can't kill pure evil." Shudder has revealed an official trailer for the fun horror anthology feature Scare Package II: Rad Chad's Revenge, a sequel to first Scare Package series that opened in 2020. This next one is set to start streaming on Shudder later in December. When horror guru Rad Chad Buckley's funeral turns into an elaborate series of hilarious death traps based on his favorite scary films, the guests must band together and use the rules of horror to survive the bloody game. The full cast includes Jeremy King, Zoe Graham, Rich Sommer, Kelli Maroney, Shakira Ja'nai Paye, Graham Skipper, Maria Olsen, and Byron Brown. This looks much funnier than it does scary, though there's ton of crazy gore and blood to be disgusted by anyway. And if you haven't seen the original, maybe it's time for a double feature to enjoy both. ›››

Writer/director Joe Begos‘s holiday horror film Christmas Bloody Christmas – which got an 8/10 review from our own JimmyO that you can read Here – is now playing in theatres, and is also available to watch on the Shudder streaming service. And if the movie does well, Begos is hoping to have the chance to make two sequels back-to-back! The filmmaker revealed his sequel hopes during an interview with Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew podcast.
Christmas Bloody Christmas has the following synopsis:
It’s Christmas Eve and fiery record store owner Tori Tooms just wants to get drunk and party, until the robotic Santa Claus at a nearby toy store goes haywire and makes her night more than a little complicated. Santa Claus begins a rampant killing spree through the neon-drenched snowscape against a backdrop of drugs, sex, metal and violence, ultimately forcing Tori into a blood-splattered battle for survival...

While Violent Night is lighting the box office on fire, there’s another film featuring a Santa with a bit of bloodlust: Christmas Bloody Christmas. Thankfully this Santa is much less friendly and a lot more homicidal. I was fortunate enough to talk with the writer/director, Joe Begos, and pick his brain on this wonderful little title. He talks about how it started as a Silent Night, Deadly Night remake, only to evolve into a killer robot Santa film. This is probably my favorite conversation yet, so don’t miss it!

Writer/director Eric Pennycoff’s second feature film, the rowdy Christmas horror comedy The Leech, is coming home just in time for the holidays. The Leech tells the story of a Catholic priest, Father David, played by Graham Skipper, who continues to work hard during the holiday season to spread the word of God, despite the fact he no longer has a congregation. When he finds a man named Terry, played by Jeremy Gardner, sleeping in the church and realizes he has nowhere else to go, the good priest invites him to come to his home and spend the night. Father David soon finds out Terry is boisterous and likes to drink and he might not be the only unexpected house guest the priest has for the holidays. In fact, this Christmas might just get so out of control that it ends up causing Father David to question his faith and fight for his sanity.

Sadistic Intentions writer-director Eric Pennycoff returns with actor Jeremy Gardner for The Leech, which could easily have been titled Good Intentions – for that’s what our lead character Father David has but – of course – there are those in the world who would prey on people’s goodwill and that’s certainly the case here.

Review: Recently, I went to the World Premiere screening of Christmas Bloody Christmas at this year’s Beyond Fest. Intending to review this flick, I decided to go in completely blind. Indeed, the title gives a little warning, but the lively introduction of writer/director Joe Begos grabbed my attention. Whatever this holiday offering had, it was going to be rambunctious. And now, I’m happy to say that the wild and wooly, fast-paced fright fest is perhaps one of the best St. Nick inspired horror features in recent years. Bloody, with practical effects, and many F-bombs to offend those who don’t like cursing. And I cannot wait to talk about the rockstar performances of Sam Delich and especially Riley Dandy.
