Grrr arggg! Into every generation an excellent TV show is born: One show in all the world. The Chosen One.
It’s been 20 years since Buffy Summers, Mr. Pointy, The Bronze, and Giles’ always-smudged spectacles graced our small screens, and the world has never been the same (mostly because she saved it… a lot).
There were plenty of quips (“Out. For. A. Walk. B**ch.”), tears (Spike’s undying devotion, sob), and frights (bunnies, plus demons and stuff), but Buffy the Vampire Slayer was so much more than that.
The Joss Whedon masterpiece created several feminist icons, spoke to addiction struggles, portrayed the first lesbian sex scene on broadcast television, showed that vampires were sexy long before Twilight and made it ok to wear pink leather pants in public… well, sort of.
Whether you were Team Angel, Team Spike or kind of just wanted Giles and Joyce to get together, the show had...

On the previous episode of Feed the Beast, a shooting outside Thirio cast a dark shadow over the restaurant's impending opening night.
Would anyone still want to eat dinner at this elegant, expensive restaurant in the Bronx after seeing its sign looming over dead bodies on the news?
Watch Feed the Beast Season 1 Episode 7 Online
On Feed the Beast Season 1 Episode 7, "Tabula Rasa," the answer is no. The only people who wander in on opening night are lost yuppies looking for a bar mitzvah in Westchester. Turn out, no one wants to pay hundreds of dollars for a high-end meal that may be interrupted by gunfire before the main course has been served.
This latest episode stands out for a few reasons. The first is that the Beast of the title, Thirio, has finally awakened, first with a whisper but by the end of the episode with a roar.

Season four of the Atx Television Festival (A Television eXperience, as they prefer to be called) kicked off Thursday, June 4th in Austin, TX, with a line stretched ‘round the corner for the sole opening night event, the premiere of Atx partner USA’s Complications. The double-length pilot of the series screened to a packed house and afterwards, Mark Peikert of Backstage Magazine moderated a brief Q&A with the series’ creator, Matt Nix, stars Jessica Szohr and Beth Riesgraf, and creative Mike Horowitz. From the very start, the atmosphere in Austin has been a relaxed, positive one. Badge pickup, at least when I was there, was straightforward with helpful volunteers steering the process and the line for Complications, which started forming well over an hour before the event, was friendly and low-stress.
The screening itself was underwhelming. I am confident there are many who will enjoy Complications, but I...

I still remember the opening scene from Ang Lee's Eat, Drink, Man, Woman, one of the most mouth-watering scenes ever, which alone has great repeat viewing value and shows a lot about one culture and the story that follows. The new trailer for Tabula Rasa hit me in exactly the same way, highlighting the Minangnese culinary arts from Sumatra that are very popular and widespread throughout Indonesia, while the main character, from Papua, works in a struggling lower class restaurant. Here's the official synopsis: Hans, a young man from Serui, Papua, has a dream of becoming a professional football player. Yet fate has a different agenda, when Hans almost loses his will to live he meets Mak, owner of a humble Minangnese restaurant (lapau). In the midst of...

If you're a Marvel fan, it's not unlikely that you're also a Joss Whedon fan, and vice-versa. After all, Joss Whedon was influenced by Marvel comics, they have storytelling styles in common, and they even overlap (The Avengers and Marvel's Agents of Shield onscreen, plus Astonishing X-Men and Runaways in comics). If you're a fan of one but not familiar with the other, why not check the other out? (Not to be confused with the Avengers character The Other, played by Whedonverse veteran Alexis Denisof.)
In any case, this comparison of the recent Marvel films Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and Captain America 2 (and the TV show Marvel's Agents of Shield) with Joss Whedon's first show Buffy the Vampire Slayer will try to avoid any major spoilers (though there's one for Captain America 2, which will be clearly marked), so feel free to keep reading.

Joss Whedon is a man of many talents. He’s written and directed some of my favourite TV shows and films of all time, with his latest film, Much Ado About Nothing, opening over the weekend on our shores. So when the possibility arose to attend BAFTA’s Joss Whedon: A Life in Pictures on Friday night, I naturally jumped at the opportunity.
Of all of the people in the industry, Whedon’s work has had the greatest influence on me. I grew up on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and have had nothing but love for everything I’ve seen Whedon do since then.
Talking to a sold-out audience at BAFTA’s Princess Anne Theatre in Piccadilly, interviewed by the BBC’s Francine Stock, the evening started at the beginning, with his childhood.

We're now into our second month of these weekly crowdfunding posts, and trundling around the internet has become a really fun weekly ritual. From compelling new ideas to bizarre, 'what were they thinking?' schemes, each trawl through the web's crowdfunding sites turns up a fresh surprise at every turn.
Although some of the things we've stumbled on our downright cheeky - unless we read it incorrectly, one person appeared to have set up a project to fund their overseas holiday - many are perfectly worthy. This makes the task of choosing just three or four projects each week extremely tricky - particularly as we always try to pick lots of varied things, rather than focusing exclusively on, say, movies or games or books.

Juliette picks five of geek TV's most memorable amnesiacs, feat. Buffy, Stargate, Fringe and more (but sadly, not Harold from Neighbours)...
This feature contains spoilers.
In reality, amnesia in its wide variety of different forms is a serious condition that can ruin lives. On TV, it’s an opportunity for romance, wacky hi-jinks and/or some serious angsting, depending on the cause of the amnesia and what the amnesiac gets up to while memory-less. Amnesia on television is nearly always retrograde amnesia (where the person forgets things that happened before the onset of amnesia) rather than anterograde amnesia (loss of short-term memory, a debilitating condition) and the amnesiac will always remember useful things like how to boil an egg, drive a car and speak English, but not specifics concerning their names, their family, their personal history, or, most importantly, who they were in love with.

James Chambers’ tales of horror, crime, fantasy, and science fiction have been published in numerous anthologies and magazines. In 2011 Dark Regions Press published his collection of four Lovecraftian-inspired novellas, The Engines of Sacrifice. Chambers is also the author of the short story collections Resurrection House, published in 2009 by Dark Regions Press, and The Midnight Hour: Saint Lawn Hill and Other Tales with illustrator Jason Whitley. Tom Hardy has quietly ascended the Hollywood hierarchy and has definitely become a star. He got his first taste of mainstream celebrity through Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” as a wily, charming dream impersonator. He was also Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises” which has given him the opportunity to work in more roles. After Batman, Hardy will start with a “Tabula Rasa” of sorts and work on a smaller film.
One of Hardy’s next projects will be the thriller “Locke.” The narrative follows family man Ivan Locke who has the ideal life until trouble rears its head. One fateful phone call put in danger all that he has worked for.
Hardy will soon be featured as Mad Max in “Fury Road” and it has been rumored that he will star in the biographical “Everest” which will focus on British climber George Mallory.

Back in July, we brought you news that Ubisoft's movie arm was planning an Assassin's Creed movie around actor Michael Fassbender. Now they've partnered up with production studio New Regency to continue the slow march to getting the eternal battle between Assassins and Templars to the big screen.
New Regency distributes their movies through twentieth Century Fox, meaning Ubisoft now at least has a firm way of getting the movie in front of eyeballs when it's ultimately completed. According to the press release, the deal allows Assassin's Creed to be fast-tracked while letting Ubisoft maintain creative control of the project.
But that's putting the cart filled with hay that you can leap of faith into before the horse, since the script is still in development, and no other talent beyond Prometheus star Fassbender has been announced as of yet.

On this day, the 20th of August, we celebrate the 50th birthday of actor James Marsters, the man who embodies our very favorite Bad Boy of the Buffyverse: Spike. The blood-drinking, blooming-onion-loving blondie first appeared in Season 2 of “Buffy” but was never intended to become a series regular, much less the Slayer’s devoted lover and tragicomic hero.

In just two short months the third and final chapter of the Christopher Nolan/Christian Bale Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, will descend upon us from the metaphorical rooftop and then we’ll all finally know. Will it have been worth the wait? Will we be able to actually understand Bane’s dialogue? Will it trouble Joss Whedon’s ridiculously awesome The Avengers?
In fact at this point, the only thing we can be sure of is that we’re most definitely due for some cowl-crunching, Bat-breaking Bane mayhem. And I say bring it on…

How Robert Lipsyte, author of the new memoir An Accidental Sportswriter, stood athwart the sports page yelling, "Stop!"
When a young man on the make tells me he wants to be a sportswriter, I tell him to read one book. It's called SportsWorld by Robert Lipsyte. Starting next month, I'll tell him to read another: An Accidental Sportswriter, which is functionally Lipsyte's sequel. In sportswriting's cosmic baseball card set-Jimmy Cannon! Dan Jenkins! Charlie Pierce!-you can find men who wrote as pretty as the former New York Times columnist. But Bob is the five-tool sportswriter. His beat is the ballpark, the '60s, African-American history, women's lib, Muslim theology, sports as metaphor, and-most interesting for you, young sportswriter-the craft of sportswriting itself.

When the announcement of Tom Hardy’s inclusion in Chris Nolan’s third and final Batman film was initially made, the rumour hounds went crazy over who he would play, with the top three options lining up as The Riddler, Hugo Strange and Bane, with the masked muscle-bound madman coming in a distant third in that particular race. So it wasn’t hugely surprising to find a vocal and vociferous opposition to the further announcement that the Brit would indeed be taking on the role of he who is often referred to as the anti-Batman.
But, given the time to reflect on the decision, and the way Bane (and also Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle) will fit in with the rest of the Nolan universe, I think the casting is genius. And here, my Batman-loving friends, is why:

Tabula rasa. Until I walked into the theater tonight, I had never heard a single note of a Justin Bieber song. I'd never seen him in motion. I knew still photos of him in passing and I saw an appearance he made on "The Daily Show" last week, which made me laugh. Right away, the impression I got of him was a kid who is willing to puncture his own celebrity, and who was enjoying the play side of things. He struck me as a genuine kid, still impressed enough by the pop culture he's a part of to have fun...

In the first of what I hope to be a regular feature on Fused TV, I have decided to choose Buffy The Vampire Slayer, as my choice. First off, this feature is designed to rehash thoughts and feelings and interesting reactions to shows of the past. Shows that changed how I perceive TV, shows that I still can pull out a DVD and watch an episode, shows that have such an awesome cast, and many more things. “The Show Must Go On” and why not start with one of my favorite series ever, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Matt Roush of TV Guide put it nicely at the Buffy reunion one year at the Paley Festival. Roush, a long time fan of the show, got up and quipped at his introduction, “My name is Matt and I’m a Buffy-holic.” He also described the show as “Clueless meets Carrie by...

For years, employees at Google have suggested a project near and dear to their nerd hearts: a Google-led science fair. "It's come up over and over and over again," says Cristin Frodella, a senior product marketing manager in education at Google. After all, many a Googler has fond childhood memories of explaining the genius of his or her biology experiment to passersby in a school gym. (Frodella and her best friend trained hamsters to ask for food by ringing a bell.)
Today those Googlers and budding scientists worldwide should be ecstatic. The company launched Google Science Fair, the first global online science competition. It's open to full-time students ages 13 to 18, who are encouraged to use the panoply of Google products to record and share their work. "We want to let kids use our online tools so they can participate from anywhere in world," Frodella tells Fast Company. "They may be...

I supposed my reaction to Julie Taymor's photographically bold, yet cinematicly flat rendition of William Shakespeare's play could be summed up by comparing the performance of Alan Cumming from her previous film Titus to the one he yields here. In Titus, he is a campy-over-the-top force of nature, a pure delight of showmanship. In The Tempest, he is yawning his way through the inevitable march across the Hawaiian voclanic badlands with an equally subdued Chris Cooper and David Strathairn. Maybe the gory Grand Guignol of Titus was a more suitable fit than the more introspective, meta-ish nature of The Tempest for her particular sort-of-a-stage-production-sort-of-a-film style. Outside of the farcical comedic elements, Alfred Molina is at his bawdy best here, with Russell Brand providing somewhat consistent support, which seem to capture the best elements of Shakespeare's ability to play to the back of the room, The Tempest merely makes...

This review may contain spoilers. You may as well forget everything about .The Pandorica Opens. as the conclusion to the epic adventure, .The Big Bang,. has little in common with its opening act. Forget the Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarians and Silurians; forget the devastating note on which it ended, and certainly forget the thrill and excitement that made the episode a perfect bookend to Steve Moffat.s first year as showrunner. Instead, .The Big Bang. is an uneven and convoluted affair, filled with easy coincidences, convenient twists and, of course, a deus ex machina to wipe the slate clean. Tabula rasa seems to be the key word for the adventure; set against the backdrop of a universe where the Big Bang never occurred, the cosmos is a barren and desolate place and the only reason ...

That’s more like it. Lost’s final season continues to be a mirror-image of its first with “The Substitute,” a literal and spiritual successor to season one’s standout episode, “Walkabout.”
Back in 2004 when Lost premiered there was uncertainty about what exactly it was going to be. It was coming from Jj Abrams, who was fresh off his critically acclaimed Alias. Would it be, like that show, a mythologically-heavy serialized thriller, or a more down-to-earth character piece reminiscent of his prior project, Felicity? Part of the reason the pilot caused such a stir was because it seemed to fuse both, and introduced such a wide swath of characters and potential plotlines that the series seemed destined to burn itself out after maybe half a season at best. The series’ second episode, “Tabula Rasa,” started to mold the show into shape — establishing the weekly flashback structure and how it would...

On "Lost," death is about as common as the cold. It drifts in and out just like a sickness, sometimes with warning but often without any signs at all, and almost always claiming its victims with ruthless efficiency. Whether the dead party is a beloved or loathed character, one thing remains true throughout — the death scenes of "Lost" are almost always epic and inventive.
After the jump, we've listed 23 dead characters who should return for the final season of "Lost."
Stay tuned to MTV next week for the final installments of Lost In Numbers, a series of features pegged directly to the show's trademark number sequence: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42. Needless to say, spoilers for season five and earlier lie ahead. And make sure to tune in to MTV Movies Blog next Tuesday for our live blog of the season premiere!

Our reviews for this past week are down a couple of shows, thanks primarily to baseball. Fringe was a no-show on account of the former, and Supernatural offered us a repeat of this season's premiere.
That said, we've got some new entries in the mix, which we'll be continuing as well. Blaine Kyllo chimes in with his thoughts on this past week's episodes of House, 30 Rock and Dollhouse (the latter of which returned to the airwaves after a one week absence).
With choices reduced on account of America's favorite pastime, viewers had a second look at shows they might have otherwise missed the first go-round, in their quest for something to watch, and this benefited FlashForward, which earned its best audience since its second week, picking up a 6.2 rating/10 share.
Meanwhile, according to the stats, Fringe, which has been a big ratings loser in its sophomore season, saw an uptick the week ending Oct.

This week's episode wasn't bad at all, for the simple reason that -- like last week's installment -- it sort of underscored one of the larger problems of Heroes itself. (How's that for a backhanded compliment?) This time out, Heroes sorta figured out what to do with Hiro. Because for the past four seasons, Hiro has been a character without a purpose. If you'll think back to the first season, you'll remember that Hiro began as a flighty, superpowered, ex-wage slave who -- thanks to a mentor-encounter with his darker, futuristic self -- embraced his destiny and set out on...

(S04E06) If there was a theme this week, it's about nurturing and guiding people with abilities. We followed up with Sylar, now in the nefarious embrace of the Sullivan Brothers Carnival, as well as Peter and Hiro, and by extension Emma. The quest to save Hiro's life from the brain tumor that's killing him even affords Noah the opportunity to atone for his cold past by providing support to a former kid he and the Haitian had "visited" back in his Company days.
We got some very nice character moments this week. I like Hiro in the role of mentor to Emma, as it gives him a focus for his crazy optimism. Plus, we got to see how stopping time makes a magic show even more awesome -- I know that's the kind of crap I'd be doing with that ability. Screw saving the world, watch me make this woman vanish.

There weren't many forward-moving developments this week on Heroes, but the episode "Tabula Rasa" had its up and its down.
Let's go over what worked and what didn't work during the hour, as readers are encouraged to sound off themselves in our Heroes forum...
What Worked: Hrg, back in the spotlight! He's always been our favorite character. It's great to see him with a purpose again, one that can highlight new individuals with abilities and bring them into the fold when need be.
What Didn't Work: Hiro, one confused time traveler! So, does he have a list or not? Sometimes? When we last saw Hiro, and when this episode ended, it seemed as though he could control where he went in time. But he had no idea why fate brought him to Peter last week. The show has always had a consistency problem with various abilities.
What Worked: A sharper focus!

Nothing big really happened in "Tabula Rasa," the sixth episode of Heroes' fourth season, so I was a bit disappointed that the story didn't significantly make a big leap forward. There was also no mention of Claire's college adventures from last week nor did it tap on Angela's quest to find her missing son Nathan. However, I give credit to the coherence of the three student-teacher story arcs tackled through Noah and Jeremy, Emma and Hiro, and Sylar and Samuel.

Earlier this month, Heroes star Hayden Panettiere said her character of Claire will be "chasing a normal life" at college.
It's not hard to imagine how that will turn out, especially based on the following photo from an early season four episode.
It depicts Claire, bloodied and motionless on the ground. We know she'll soon heal herself, but why is there a chalk outline around her body?
In other season four news, the episode titles for the first eight installment of "Redemption" have been released. They are:
Orientation Jump, Push, Fall Acceptance Ink Hysterical Blindness Tabula Rasa Strange Attractors Once Upon A Time In Texas Heroes returns on September 21 on NBC. Talk about it now in our forum!
