- Was friends with Sean Connery, who convinced him to take the part of Kronsteen in From Russia with Love (1963), Sheybal's first international film. The part brought him to the attention of other producers and launched his long career of playing villains in international productions.
- Was chosen by director Terence Young, for his part as Kronsteen in the James Bond film From Russia with Love (1963), because of his special voice.
- Provided the uncredited voice of Herbert Von Krolock (played onscreen by Iain Quarrier) in The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967).
- Due to his iconic character roles in both From Russia with Love (1963) and Smiley's People (1982), he is one of only two actors to play significant characters in the best video realizations involving the two most popular - and highly contrasted - fictional spies: James Bond and George Smiley. Kurt Jurgens played the General in Smiley's people as well as Karl Stromberg in The Spy who Loved me.
- Fought in the Polish resistance during World War II and was subsequently sent by the Nazis to a concentration camp. He escaped twice.
- Brother of assistant director Kazimierz Sheybal.
- In the 1967 Doctor Who (1963) episode "Tomb of the Cybermen" Sheybal was to have played the role of Klieg, but George Pastell ultimately got the part.
- Considered for the roles of Dr. Hans Fallada and Dr. Bukovsky in Lifeforce (1985).
